How many teams from this grade are playing in the Hilton Petone? Who's been looking the goods so far from those playing?
Permalink Permalink

Petone played two lost two (against a school team and a team from the league below).

Pretty much the same side as last season.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Olympic ressies have been strong, 11 for none against.

Stokes Valley have had one hammerring and one default.  LH 2nds looked okay las night when I watched them.

North Wellington have lost two but they've had Masters players filling in.

How's my driving? - Whine here

N Welly also have a new coach.  Old one moving to Auckland.

A couple of lads from Onslow 1st XI shoudl become regulars for them but haven't featured at hilton because of work and drinking commitments.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Just out of interest, do Wellington United still have a Dutch following? I know they were Dutch originally but just wondered if they still maintained their links to the Dutch community in the way that Olympic to with the Greeks and Central with the Croatians?

I think he is saying that those teams are forerunners to win Capital 1 News

Wouldn't it have to be Tawa's second team, they lose the playoff against Island Bay last year?

sounds like a yarn. If they did pull out they should go to Div 17.
Karori seconds > Petone seconds (or I will owe Smithy a night on the piss on our Hong Kong WC stop over)

Agreed. Especially if its because they just dont want to play in Cap 1 and would rather play in Cap 2. And if its because they havnt got enough players, well then it should be all over for them.

I heard a whisper about a 9 team league in one of the higher grades (more correctly, a 10 team league, one of which is called 'bye'). Maybe Cap 1 is it.

sounds like BNU to stay up, and SV's departure to stuff up existing draws and changes the grade of some teams

What draws, as you are aware the close of dates for entering teams was Monday this week so no draws should have been finalised yet.

Good on Stokes Valley for pulling out if they think they are'nt up to Capital 1 level. They have lost a number of players from last years 1st team squad and its better they give another club a chance at that level than let everybody flog them week after week.

But boooo to Stokes Valley for defaulting Hilton games.

Not fair on other clubs.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Our whole top squad have pretty much left the club leaving the seconds (div 7 last year) and Killer Bees (div 8) to try fill the void.

Defaulting against KCU was pretty much our only option, They  only had 7 players at training, Im not sure how many were willing to play after the 8-0 thrashing they got against olympic(from the 15 or so minutes I saw it could have been more as well)

Geez that sucks, when I was there in 2008 it wasn't the most amazing year but they had potential.

Last year was up and down, but again not the be all and end all.

Maybe a time to look at a merger or some such, it is a small club

....NO player payments or free subs  I am told ... hence why players left .....back to being true" amatuer" club , maybe able to play in the NZFC which is totally  amatuer .

Your right - all of the existing first team players were slowly phased out with "imports" who left as soon as the free boots and subs were taken away.
Now all the players that went down the grades are being called up to the firsts again

so does every club in Cap 1 pay teams subs?
Permalink Permalink
about 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
no. maybe some subsidise but i doubt many would pay full subs. it would probably differ between teams that are first teams/reserves

Fuck this stupid game

Is Stokes Valley's problem re Hilton and Div 1 a unique one? If free boots and no subs are taken away from "imports" playersa nd these players walk away or stay out,  can all the clubs coopeprate for the good of the game and for mutual existence of smaller clubs? Could these players be poverty stricken or premadona- driven or worst than that, refugee mentality? Who are they and may be they can be identified so ALL clubs will know not to accept them into the game. Surely ecery player has to pay subs towards the clubs as an indication of commitment and loyalty. Otherwsie, smaller clubs will disappear.

Nah thats not what i heard (being the reason they left). And besides Stokes Valley has always been a small club. When i was 14 and playing the odd game for Wests 3rds we played Stokes Valleys 1sts, and that was 10 years ago. Maybe they dont have the right people running the club. I mean if nothings changed in 10years, maybe they need to ask themselves why that is?

Our (second) team in Cap One all pay subs, although most of them at the high school student rate!
