What happened to the Cougars? Another 3 nil home loss.

Seems like Petone are hitting form at the right time.

Having Karl Whalen and Jamie Duncan ain't bad

A deserved win by Uni tonight playing some good attractive football, even when they went down to 10 men.

The ref made a few 'interesting decisions" which fortunately had no effect on the outcome. Must say its the first time I've ever seen a keeper pinged for 6 seconds on his first touch of the game and than the ref incorrectly gave a direct free kick and not an idirect freekick!

I don't really like bagging the refs, but I think the quality of the referees in capital 3 has been terrible this year!
They seem to be getting worse each week.
I know they are volunteers, and I wouldn't want to do it, but surely they have got to be better?

What does everyone else think?

I think they are very inconsistant (like the players in the grade).

I'd seen last nights ref before and he had a really really good game last time (I even told him so).

I remember one I saw at the start of the season who shouldnt even be reffing Cap 16, he was a shocker and Im glad I havent seen him again. He had no clue what was happening on the field and gave the impression he hadnt ever played the game.

I saw the sending off incident last night and was a tad puzzled given that in my opinion it should of been a Uni free kick!  He was awful last night. would of been a better game without him!

The sending off was for discent, I even heard the player sent saying he deserved it after the game and that it was his own fault for mouthing off and kicking the ball away.

Yes you are right - they are very inconsistent. Especially when they are being assessed - they get a talking to at halftime and then totally change the way they are interpreting the rules in the second half!

I don't think we have had a bad ref all season, home or away. I think if they make calls wrong, it normally goes both ways. Haven't had the same ref for 2 games in a row, including home games.

With Uni playing Karori this weekend, will the sending off have any impact on this weeks game?

So what's everyone's predictions for this weekend?

North Wellington vs Masterton

Greytown vs Petone

Armanis vs Wairarapa

University vs Karori

Marist vs Wainui

Masterton, Petone, Armanis, Uni, Marist

A couple of big games this week! Will potentially have a big impact at the top of the table.
I'm going with Armanis because they are at home and have been playing well recently.
And Uni because Karori appear to be struggling a bit lately.

But both these games could go either way.

Its definitely going to be a tough game for Karori. Hopefully they come out the blocks strong like the Wairarapa and North Wellington games.

Armanis last weekend were definitely better than they were at the start of the season. It comes to be at close finish. None of the top three can afford to drop points.

Pretty rough game between Masterton and North Wellington. After mentioning earlier about not having a bad ref so far this year, we had one. I suppose he was bad for both teams, with some very interesting calls going both ways. North Wellington would consider they got the worst call when one of their players was cautioned for a second time, for practically nothing and it seemed that one of our players should of been sent earlier in the game. We lost all structure after they equalised, and never looked like we wanted it, and they did. Pretty disappointed that we dropped points against lower teams, but seem to play better against the better teams. Interesting to hear the NW coach/manager walked around the whole field, and asked our supporters to stop giving the ref shit, but doesn't throw the same advice to his players. But never mind. That's the nature of the game. We have Wairarapa united next Sunday without 4 of our players due to the reformed church rules of not playing on Sundays, but the WU firsts are playing straight after us, so I very much doubt any of the first team will be featuring.

Seems at this stage, Wairarapa might have the league in the bag, with being 2 points clear of Uni and a game in hand. But you never know what can happen.

Karori completely dominated the game against Uni. The referee was reasonable but took a long time to blow for fouls. He was being assessed so wonder if that had something to do with it. Final score was 4-1 two of which will be contenders for goal of the season.

Makes the hunt for second place interesting with Karori having a game in hand over Uni and Armanis.

Petone had a disappointing 3-3 draw with Greytown.
After playing some pretty good football over the past few weeks, we were terrible and were lucky to get away with a point.

We were up 2-1 at halftime and very lucky to have the lead. Our goals came from two goalkeeping errors. Then we scored first in the second half to go up 3-1 with about 30min to go. Disappointing to give up another good lead in the 2nd half, but Greytown were probably the better side on the day and will consider themselves unlucky not to have won.

Top of the table is looking very tight now. Its a 3-way fight for 2nd place!

That's the plan - will help our Armanis too.
Your fightback from 3-0 down against us to get that point could potentially be the difference :)

Equation is simple for us. Two games left, two wins required. Big trip to G-town this weekend. Some interesting banter in the first round fixture.

Injuries and a mediocre midfield cost us on Saturday. Although had the two one-on-ones in the first 20 minutes been put away the result may have been slightly different. But I'm clutching at straws, the Cougars were ultimately a more polished side and thoroughly deserved the result.

Someone needs to give that number 9 a good kicking though.

I'm still very disappointed in no clean sheet since round 5. Well taken goal by Ryan? for Uni's goal.

Not much of the season left now but think Wairarapa should take top spot leaving Us, Uni and Armanis fighting it out for second.

Describe the number 9 for me? May have been the same guy that fed it to me in the first round loss, and said absolutely nothing when we beat them there. The saying "only sing when you are winning" comes to mind.

When we played Greytown in the first round, there number 14 "josh" had a lot to say, but in the return leg, didn't like the same medicine back at him, so stir him up early and he will struggle.

We are out for a big game against Wairarapa United on Sunday. All guns blazing, no holds barred, local battle. I don't mind the rough stuff providing it is not too dangerous. Tough, but not dangerous. Might have to sit out the game against Petone, if things get carried away. But we will try our best. Played well against them last time out.

I think it was our shorter quicker striker in the number 9 jersey who is lets say is animated in games. He is a passionate player but see how in rubs opponents the wrong way.

I get quite vocal during games especially towards referees and the back four. I'm an angry goalkeeper afterall.

As a center back I have had several run-ins with him over the last few years.
On the field he is the type of guy that you love to hate.

But I have no problem with people like him - he is competitive (as I am). He is a good player. I actually enjoy marking him.
I like a bit of banter on the field - as long as it doesn't get out of hand, or people start trying to hurt each other.

Chossa would love that to happen. Very dependant on Uni dropping points and Karori winning their final 3.

Agree with bottom two.

I predict Swarley letting in a howler in the last game, thus dropping to fourth, and getting chased out of Karori by some teachers after his team told them what his job was.

Appearantely the one that was meant to do the Armanis game was meant to be getting assessed, and the assessor turned up, but the ref didn't.

Another interesting ref decision today in the Greytown vs Uni game. The number 9 for Greytown got booked for intentionally pulling the keeper down during a corner, then received a second yellow for the same thing on another player. The ref showed him the yellow card, then put it back in his pocket, and took his name out of the book. Very strange decision and was not sure if the Uni guys had something to say to the ref, to prevent the second yellow from being recorded.

Sorry. I got my maths wrong. If Wairarapa loose their last 3 and Karori win their remaining 3, then Karori will win the league

Good win from our boys on the weekend - unfortunately kills off any chances Armanis had of promotion, but that's the way it goes.
Very disappointing to not have a ref - third time this season it has happened to us!
There was an assessor there too. I asked him if he would step in. He said no, he had already done a game of college football in the morning!
Just poor all round really.

But back to the positives - great win, and pleasing to keep a clean sheet for only the second time this season!

Looking forward to our last trip over the hill this season on Saturday.
