New season with 5 new teams to Cap 7 I see this year.

Gone are Magpies, SV, Marist Town, Aces & the young Uni team.

Only 3 teams left from last season, Stallions, Cobras and my lot the Elite.

Should make for an interesting start to the season, as most wouldn't have played against each other.

3 Uni teams, with the Stallions stewards, the Raiders back to Cap 7 and a new team Uni 4th XI (They'd want to find a name wouldn't they?).

SV Killer Bees, Lower Hutt City and Nth Wgtn Varisty the others.

Last year we had a good thread going thru the season with good banter, discussion and questions. Be good to carry this on during this season.

For the Elite, we've lost a few players this season with 3 to the new Uni team. Should be an interesting match that one. We've injected a lot of new young blood but will need a few games to gel.

Got the Stallions up first which will be another battle as it always is. MacAlister Park with a new layout I'm told, so the wind does run up and down but from side to side. Hope to get off to a winning start.

Lower Hutt have rocketed up to div 7 after coming second in div 9 last year.  I believe we replaced another LH team which pulled out.

I recognise a few of these teams from previous years as we have bounced around the different divs over the past 5 or 6 years.  Should be a good season.

Most of our team have returned from last year but with a new keeper (as usual).  I'v been practising my bicycles in our pre season fixture so watch out for that in particular.

Hope everyone has scratched together a full team for today

Definitely, can't let all the fun and banter leave with El Grap & the Magpies, and Shabba and the Aces. We'll talk it up, no worries there.

Good battle with Elite today - shame to see you lame on the sidelines again CJ09. 2-2 draw, despite all our talk of clean sheets and more goals up at 2-0 at halftime. You guys scored a couple of good ones in that second half. No bust ups - thats unusual for our teams with the long history we have!

Curious you have lost players to the new university team - will be interesting to see how all our varsity teams co-exist. The Raiders are old rivals, its good to see them back, as for our '4ths' and this new team with Elite castoffs ...

Welcome mw4Perennial strugglers Liverpool - how did you get on today? 00052010-04-03 17:45:38

SV Killer Bees drew 1 all with North Wellington Varsity - good result for us as North wellington have had the better of us for a few seasons.

both teams had players missing(myself included for the killer bees) and from what I heard it was a messy game - both teams scored from the penalty spot

Pretty pleased with the lads 2nd half. The goals from 2 of our new guys were very pleasing, especially the equaliser, one touch football and a great finish. Would have been pleased with that myself.

The lads who left really didn't take to the team's fine sessions and the $1k we made that we had an end of season blinder with. Also something about taking it more seriously and training. Maybe the Uni 4th XI is more serious for them.

3 draws this week doesn't really show anything bar the league maybe a lot closer this season. Mind you, the 9-3 win by the Lower Hutt team against the Raiders was a surprise to read. Team to fear or were the Raiders poor???

Huttsy only had 11 men, just too pacey for the Raiders. A certain striker (who won't be named due to his ability to brag) popped in a first half hattrick, and had his fifth ten minutes after the break. Needless to say he was moved to centre back to allow others to share the glory. Goal of the game went to Perennial strugglers Liverpool fan MW, cracking half volley from 25, bending into the near post.

Well we've got the Raiders up next, here's hoping their defence hasn't been shored up this weekend.

Your striker sounds like club golden boot candidate already or will it go pear shaped after this???

A few in the team jokingly hope it will go pear-shaped as he'll be hard to catch! With his performance it's more golden head than boot...

he is a perennial injury threat so I'm sure he will go down in game 2.  He only slowed down on Saturday after I cracked him square in the nether regions with a full blooded hoof - which is what  gave me the chance to net a couple.   Agreed with the goal of the game call though.  From my angle it was brilliant.

Thought the score was a tad unfair on you guys as we ran it out a bit in the second half.

Gun for hire. Let me know when the Naenae need a really skinny man to balance out the rest of the squad, and I am all yours.

Sv Killer bees went down 6-3 to the uni 4ths, we where in it until half time, but our fitness and lack of subs let us down, we were lucky to only go down by 3, they could have easily scored a few more but were unlucky in front of goal

Elite lost to the Raiders with the last kick of the game...gutted!!   3-2 result.
Again, 2-nil at ht for the elite but came back strong in 2nd half to get it back to 2-all then heart breaking at the end. 2-2 would have been a fair result on balance of play I think.
Not sure how they lost 9-3 last week on their performance today.

Damn, that Raiders v Elite game sounds intense. Stallions beat Marist Cobras 3-1, a pretty tight game - though can't help but feel that quite a few of them and the ref are playing the wrong code. A good end to end game though. The grade is shaping up as a pretty even one.

Lower Hutt beat North Wellington 4-3, nil all at half time.  Our young striker with a quality goal from outside the area, curving and dipping over the keeper to take the 3 points with 5 mins to go.

I'll keep my opinions to myself about the game - suffice to say it was a hotly contested affair.  The score shows it was pretty tight.

Just got back from the Lower Hutt vs. Uni 4th XI game. A 7-1 victory. Pretty happy with the Lower Hutt performance, we're looking pretty solid this year. Lil Joe 172010-04-17 15:07:41

We (killer bees) got beat again - this time  2-0 by the Uni Raiders - its looking like its going to be a long season, we have lower hutt next week - could be a cricket score - especially since we only have 9 fit players at the moment and they are smashing everyone

Ah, theres a long ways to go, and its historically a grade of up and down results, you'lll be ok. Lower Hutt definitely making the earlier run. Stallions had a hardwon 2-0 win against a very good Nth Wellington, they ran us ragged - the score probably a little flattering ...

Elite bet the Cobras 5-3. Elite had the lionshare of the game and there was plenty of niggle with the cobras whinging right up to the final whistle

Yeah, Elite were good for their result yesterday. Cobras repeatedly played the man and not the ball (esp 1st half) then gave the ref plenty when he blew them up for it. Looked more like rugby than football was one side line comment.
In saying that, you're always in for a battle with any Marist team and any result isn't going to come unless you match them in that area.
5 great goals for Elite (a couple helped by the Cobras lack of a proper keeper) but they still need to be put away.
Conceded a couple of late goals as the legs got heavy but pretty pleased to get another over Marist.

I see Lower Hutt gave out another spanking!

Weird game from my perspective (LH) - I didnt think we dominated but the score indicates we did.  We put most if not all of our chances away and they didn't.

In saying that, can't ask for a better start to the season after jumping up two divs.

Hope he doesnt mind getting hacked - our slow defenders love nothing more than chopping down strikers (its all they know)

Killer Bees went down again - 3-1 to lower hutt - wasnt quite the thrashing we were anticipating, but Hutt did miss a few chances and were well organised at the back,
Game was pretty scappy due to the dreadful pitch and some shocking hacking from both teams

Elite lost 3nil away to Nth Wgtn. Had the early running but couldn't take our chances for the first time this season. Nth Wgtn came back, scored before ht then scored bullet header early in 2nd and that was that. Good organised team but keen to see them mid-winter.

SV Killer bees go down again - this time 4-3 to the Marist Cobras - good open game, had a proper ref who was terrible at best, Killer Bees rallied from 4-1 down to get back in it. Although Marist were more likely to get a 5th before we got a 4th

Lower Hutt and Uni Stallions drew 1-1. Was a good entertaining game, and the score was probably fair.

Further to Lil Joe's comments - happy with the game and a fair result with two top class goals.  Stallions need to be more reasonable with the subs - we are happy with rolling subs but if you are stopping every 5 mins to make a change it is a little much.  Try subbing 2 or 3 at the same time every 15 mins maybe guys

Come on mw4Perennial strugglers Liverpool, you are exaggerating just a little - we like to give everyone a fair go (how about your sub - how long was that poor guy on the sidelines for - this is Div 7 after all!). We had a couple of bigish injuries that changed things up in terms of the normal subbing system. But apologies if that somehow upset the flow of your game I guess. I got the feeling it had more to do with the tight and excellent manmarking of your striker - all other teams should do the same. I'm down with Lil Joe - it was a good top of the table clash and a fair result which will have both teams looking forward to the return match.

if it is for injuries then that's all good. agreed it was a resolute defensive display from you guys - looking forward to a tight rematch.

the guy on the sideline was a ring in until our late team member turned up.

Elite had the measure of Uni 4th's yesterday. 4 good goals in the first half and could have had a couple more in the 2nd. Game when the way of the weather in the 2nd.
Uni had a day in front of goal like ourselves last week, could have easily had a couple themselves but we'll take the first clean sheet of the season.
Anyone seen next week's draw yet? Use to see it after the draw was printed on Thursday's!
