It was an extraordinary match. A classic.

With about two minutes to go Whanganui went 2-1 ahead.  I thought it was over and then Stop Out managed an equaliser before winning it in extra-time.

There were some seriously tired players on that pitch at the final whistle.

Whanganui brought a decent and NOISY crowd with them. 👍

Final score Stop Out 3 Whanganui Athletic 2.
Stop Out win 5-4 on aggregate.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's living in Agadez, Niger.  Spending more time in town, Agadez, as bad people in the desert are spoiling the good life.

Classic playoff game.

I didn't realise that the away goals rule was being used.  Just before Wanganui scored from the penalty to make it two one, they had a corner.  The player coach goal keeper went up for it.  Me wondering what on Earth he was up to as i thought a draw was a draw and extra time.  Then the penny dropped that they were behind on away goals at that point and the rule must be in place.  .

When Stop Out got the equalizer to go to 2-2 just before the 90 minutes were up, there must have been 100 people storm onto the pitch in celebration including the whole Stop Out bench, subs, subbed, and all the coaching staff.  Then when order was restored the referee went to the Stop Out bench with a very determined look on his face went straight to one of the assistant coaches and sent him off.  A coach , that wore glasses, not the head coach though.  Referee said something about "striking a player".  I didn't see anything.  It was patently obvious that the referee was looking for the specific coach and nobody from the Stop Out staff or players raised any protests.  Will be interesting to see/hear what the repercussions of all that are.

I wondered what went on.  The ref did look as you said. Nobody around me seemed to know whether the ref had sent someone off or not.

Coaches shouldn’t be involved in running on the pitch anyway - so fair call they are punished.
Sounds epic.
Classic how wanga had to purchase an away shirt to wear but wore the same red shorts and socks.

Yes interesting choice too since Wangas home kit is black shorts and socks (red shirt). Would've though they would have wore that with their new shirt.

Shame it wasn't live Streamed, anyone know why? I may be wrong but thought I saw Cap Footy post last week that it would be streamed by cello.

So IBU and Olympic at the top after two rounds. Might stay that way throughout the season?

Phoenix 3rds beat Wainui 11-1 according to the CF website.  What was all that about?  Fozzie must have had steam coming out of his ears.

IBU deserved winners, despite Mata & Gould dropping down to the reserves.

Was an awesome game huh? Plenty of excitement! Gould is some player man. Totally changed the game when he came on

Have you seen the Wainui squad? They have about 4 capable players the rest have all come from their struggling reserve team in Cap 4 or similar.

Weirdly the four best players at Wainui are all playing in the Wellington grades for one of their social teams.

So is there still a play off with a team from Central Football to get into Central League?

I see Napier City rovers are winning that league ( well 2nd with a game in hand) but there’s only 5 teams? Seems strange!

Central Fed league is a really strange season. What I understand is one team disappeared early due to an internal club change (Levin), Two teams (Havelock who were Central last year & New Plymouth) pulling out the month before the season started (I think for one team it was like a week before). Meaning a League of 8 is now 5.

Yeah is interesting, do you think any of the rest will be keen to try and get into Central League?

I think IBU will be hard to beat tho

Like most of the cap prem teams, a fed team will get pumped by IBU. The club concerned might still see it as an opportunity to sell a few drinks in their clubrooms at the end of the season, so who knows...

Interesting that PNM, who are leading that league, lost in the Chatham Cup to FC Western who are 3rd in the Taranaki Premiership.

IB squeaked past Karori reserves today 3-2. That makes it 10 wins on the trot for the Bay.  Anyone know what the longest winning streak for a Cap Prem team is?

Nope, but teams have won it without dropping too many points so just a matter of timing. Lower Hutt in 2003 won at least the first ten I think

North Wellington went unbeaten in 2018 winning 16 and drawing 2 games

one of the draw was in the first half so not a solid win streak

you're right but the draw was in the second game of the season, they then went on an 11 game winning streak before their next draw

But looking further back the longest winning streak I've found is 13 games by Wellington United in 2015

Yea really interesting season. I dont know the details of whats happening in camp but have heard they have struggled to field a full strength squad at all this season with players injured and unavailable. This most recent Saturday was the first time they put out what they thought was the strongest 11 according to one of the squad. I have heard some other rumours as well but being rumours I dont want to repeat them here.

With Upper Hutt losing to Phoenix and Island Bay drawing with Tawa, the Bay go 10 points ahead of UH with 3 games to go so have qualified for Central league playoffs. Olympic 2nds loss to Seatoun leaves it tight at the top with only 1 pt separating them and IBU to decide who takes the title.

Marist lead by 10 points in Central comp but weirdly have played 4 more games than second placed team so not a done deal there at all.
