1-0 to IBU at halftime. First half was reasonably even but IBU had a pretty good pen shout turned down and missed a couple of other chances. Was pretty windy so ugly conditions.

Second half, IBU completely ran over the top of Marist and were unlucky not to score more. Marist were organised but there was a pretty big difference between the two teams.

Unless things change dramatically, I would expect a similar score next week.

I understand both team had players missing due to suspension so it may look a little different next week.

3-0 the Bay. 3 goals first 25 minutes then the game fizzled out in the rain. 7-0 aggregate

Island Bay were clinical in first half, second half was scrappy and Island Bay seemed like they took the foot of the gas and just cruised, made a few subs and even replaced their keeper near the end.

Overall Island Bay a class above PNM.

One thing I did notice was only 4 of the PNM players hung around for the post match presentation which was quite disappointing to see. Given the weather they got the presentation done in less then 5 minutes post game so wasn't too much to ask to hang around and show respect for the winning side.

Well done Island Bay United on promotion to Central League.
With a Wellington-based team replacing Whanganui this will have some implication on the relegation situation for Capital Football teams in the 2023 Capital Premier, Capital One leagues (etc), I assume?

https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/350149000/central-league-revives-second-division

Piper said it was expected that clubs would have a clear idea of such issues as promotion-relegation and travel costs by the end of the year in preparation for the debut of the new division in 2025.

He said this season’s Federation League should be back up to eight or more clubs competing with an eye to what was coming up and they had until February 2 to make known their interest in joining.

How long until the second central league is filled with Wellington teams? Or is that an arrogant statement?

i think the weirdest part of the proposal is that CL2 would be for first teams, and that reserve teams should play in a dedicated reserve league, or capital 1 / central equivilant.

The implication being that the reserve league will be of a higher standard than CL2, based on recent seasons in cap prem!

Yeah I played in the reserve league back in the mid(?) 90s and the gulf was massive. Small clubs v big clubs won't be fun or helpful.

May have been more late 90s.

Olympic/Nix/Karori/Miramar have reserve sides in Cap Prem.
Petone/Wests/IBU/NW/SO have reserve sides in capital 1 but the later two I think have been relegated to Cap (both finished in bottom 2). Petone also won C1 so will be in prem next year.

Not convinced having very good cap prem sides playing teams in cap 2 is a great idea.

can't have been the 90s - Central League had 3 division up to 1999, early 2000s more likely as thats when the Federations came in and Central Legaue didn't exist until it was resurected in 2005

might not be a biggie and the landscape will shift a bit.
I can't remember our resie team travelling with us in mid 90s so I doubt there was one. I recall early 00's? there being a reserve team league below like a Cap Prem, and because there was no weight on the game it was a bit sht house. Think our ressies got flogged and it didn't actually matter (no relo).

I'm trying to get my head around that logic. Why would players move to a less competitve grade, when they are on the fringes of a national league team?

I would see the Reserve Grade as a "Nothing  Grade". No promotion/ relegation
there will be no incentive for many players.

There was a ressies grade around in 2004-2006. Smaller clubs (like Brooklyn) really struggled but as above, it didn’t really matter as was dependent on how the first team went. All a bit strange.

Northern Leagues do an under 23. Maybe that would work?

But I thought the initial proposal was the reserve teams could ply in central 2. Has that changed ( can’t be bothered reading the document).

So I'm confused - is it possible we'll end up with Central League, Central League 2 and a Central League reserves grade? Surely this will massively dilute the pool of talent and make the top Capital leagues useless?

I can only suggest you read the document. There's actually one proposal to have a Central League 2 reserves league as well. In that situation, the current Cap 3 would become Cap 1.

There are three different options being considered - one with no reserve leagues, one with a Central Reserve League, and one with a Central 2 Reserve League

I'm guessing Central fed teams are bossing their league, then getting smashed once promoted? So CL2 is trying to get those fed teams to play more competitive games?

understand  that it's in central fed interest. But why increase costs for capital clubs?

//Edit : in that I don't  see how it improves  the quality of competition  for capital clubs in the division below central, and it lands them with substantial higher  (travel) costs
