Hard to say really since we were appalling and let them do whatever they chose - which not surprisingly was score lots of goals. A solid, physical team - dominated us in the midfield and had a pretty useful striker. Not quite the flair of the old Marist Inter. Will be a good battle with your lot tomorrow, especially in the midfield. Magpies by 1.

Hmmm, the Aces? 7-0 against the Magpies April 4 round wasn't it? I'm sensing an upset ...

As for the Aces, they have some good players, but don't look to me like they've played together or a long time. Think you can dominate them physically, especially in the middle of the park, but they have a bit of pace up front if you let them get in behind your midfield. Their keeper was excellent against us. Stallions quite comfortably IMO.

Cheers for the inter-club support there El Grap  Of our team this year, only 4 of them where here last year, so still learning.....and having been promoted 3 divs this season, we're finding the jump difficult. But we'll adapt soon enough, just going to be a hard climb off the bottom.

Stallions this week could provide a lift for us, and then hopefully take something from it for the Magpies rematch next week. Fingers crossed.

Mate, I always want every Wharfies side to win (unless they're playing us!)...would help us win the Fever Championhip too. Just based on the games we've had against the Stallions, and the solitary game against you guys, I think they'll be a tough nut to crack. But I would be very happy for you guys to prove me wrong!

And why are we the away team again for the next week Wharf derby?

That's BS.

Well played Aces unlucky you made a hell of a comeback from 3-0 down  we fell right apart the start of the second half but you guys were really unlucky some nice goals and made it  a good game

Yep, EG's prediction of a comfortable Stallions win certainly didn't happen. It was a great battle Shabba, Aces don't deserve to sit on the bottom of the table and won't be there for long. It must be said, a great display of self destruction from the Stallions, 3-0 up!

Well, your prediction of us by 1 was spot on - though in all honesty, it's a bit disappointing we didn't close it out more comfortably. We made a few defensive errors in the first half, but didn't get punished for it and then got control and took a 2-0 lead into the half. Second half was pretty scrappy, not helped by the tiny pitch at the 'Drome. They pulled a soft goal back from a defensive error, but we scored soon after to restore the comfortable margin. They then scored with a good header with 4-5 to go, but didn't really threaten an equaliser, and in fact we should have got another one but our resident Welshman blasted a 1-on-1 over the bar.

Sounds like a good game between the Aces and the Stallions, a 5-4 thriller must've been entertaining.

The Stallions v Aces match was definitely eventful! After going 3-0 down within 30 mins, we managed to get a goal just before HT, providing a boost to push on and get up to 3-3 before it went back and forth of 4-3, 4-4, 5-4. A mistake by either keeper showed just how hard it is in that role, followed by an utterly amazing winner by the Stallions winger who lobbed our keeper from halfway down our own half, catching him completely by surprise. We deserved at least a share of the spoils, but it wasn't to be, so still sit rock bottom....for now.

Aces upsetting Stokes Valley would be nice this week - and very possible. C'mon Shabba - surely we warmed you lot up last weekend, well we certainly gave your strikers a decent sight of the goal if nothing else. I'm picking the upset.

I hope so...and if they shut up that crazy little Irish leprechaun that SVegas have, and their striker who thinks he's way better than he actually is, I'd be more than satisfied.

Also, Stallions to hand out a footballing lesson to United Elite. Or whatever. Just win.

Consider it done (yes Giddyup, I can see your grimace from here).

Only trouble with that scenario of course is that Stallions/Aces combined victories would leave the Magpies alone at the top of the table - and nobody wants that.

That's assuming of course that Magpies can put away University - not a given, perhaps thats the upset I'm sensing.

Lets face it, any of us getting on a park tomorrow will be a win.

So no upsets then, shame ... Good to play at least, though our game has helped turn Anderson Park into the traditional pig-pen.

Good competitive game between Stallions and Elite. Marred by a couple of things. If you ask Elite they will complain about the ref (a proper, neutral one), whereas the Stallions couldn't believe how they went on and on and on about it bringing 3 yellow cards for dissent. Always a tough battle, no different this time, good goals from both.

Did you get an actual proper ref for the game? We're thinking about going that way after last season, since games with the Elite tended to have a few 'incidents'.
Permalink Permalink

Yeah, we were umm very relieved to show up and find a man in black waiting with a whistle. Thanks to all the cancellations I guess. Made no difference though, Elite were on his back the whole game and it clearly cost them. Good spirited match between the players though.

Hey lads, I didn't realise there was a forum for Capital 7 but thought I'd join in and hopefully build some bridges with the other teams in Cap 7.

I look after the Elite and Feverish was spot on when he said there are a few ex-wharfies in our team, 7 in fact.

Can't say I disagree with the Stallions in relation to giving the ref a gob full on Saturday. A bit disappointing as it took our focus away from another good game against the Stallions.

The thing is we had him for our game against the other Uni team and we thought he was great. We were actually happy to have him there when we saw him! It's amusing what 90 minutes can do.

From my point of view on the sideline, Stallions deserved the win on balance of play. Mind you, no one likes losing to a shank of a goal ;-P

Permalink Permalink

And man was it a shank of a goal. We are united in that embarrasment (except for the scorer who claims in was all done on purpose)!

Welcome CJ09 - will be good to have some Elite presence on here. Of course, the teams that ain't represented can't talk back so take a little heat. Where do we look now - StokesVegas???
Permalink Permalink

Being a striker myself, everything we do that does come off is always because we meant it!
If one of our lads had scored a shank like that, he'd be in the fine book before the first round is drunk!

Good to have the Elite presence here to liven things up a bit.

Looking forward to the game on Saturday, should be a good day - play a hard team, feed some baboons, and finish off with a couple at Newtown park clubrooms (if we're welcome, that is - guess we'll find out after the game).

For the Stallions lads - good luck against Stokes Vegas on Saturday. They're a very good side, but are the biggest bunch of whiners/moaners/complete nutters I have seen in a long, long time. I really hope you beat them, and not just because that would be a good result for us. Also heard from some Marist lads who played them up at SVegas is that they have some of the worst home reffing they'd ever seen. So maybe try and organise another man in black for that game.

Everyone's always welcome back at the clubrooms at Newtown, regardless of result! Unless of course you sacrifice our match ball(s) to the lions or baboons! ;-)

Heads up for the game, our chairman is Wgtn Utd's CBR (club based ref) and he needs some practice so will be refereeing the game this weekend. Hope you lads don't mind.   It also saves me having to do it again and copping fines left, right and center from the lads!

How did everyone go today? We finally put together a 90 minute performance, and played some of our best football so far this season. Beat United Elite 8-0, hopefully that puts us back to the top of the table.

8-0 over Elite! That's a huge effort, perhaps you should have got promoted last season ...  Nice one.

Just to make your day better we beat SV 2-1. A good, tightly contested game. That gives the Magpies some breathing space at the top. And here we were thinking with our win and a possible  Elite upset things would be looking interesting for the second half of the season ...

Sorry to disappoint you...but we were very happy with our performance.
You beating the SVegas is also huge, we were actually talking about it in the sheds after the game, I had a feeling you'd take points off them.
Looking forward to our rematch next weekend (hopefully the weather holds up...).

I'd be more than happy with that performance...you spanked us!! As I said after the game, to concede more goals in one game than from the previous 6, tells you the story really!
Your 6'7" giant in the midfield was awesome. Didn't see that first goal coming until it was on the keeper. Very Rory Delap like.
Hopefully we'll make it more of a contest at your place!

Looking forward to it...though considering that the rematch will be played late in the season, I'd expect 'our' home to be Adventure or Onepoto by that stage unfortunately.

And yep. you're right about Kevin, he was immense for us yesterday. And his howitzers from the touchline are quite handy too...

If the weather forecast for the next few days is true, pretty sure there'll be no games in our grade on the weekend.

3-1 to Magpies over Stallions at Ngatitoa. The wind ruined the game basically. We played into the wind in the first half and struggled to get anything going. Got a fortunate penalty that gave us the lead, and Stallions equalised late on in the first to go 1-1 at the break.

Scored early on in the second, and although Stallions managed to threaten occassionally, we always felt comfortable with the wind in our backs. Scored another one late on for 3-1. Some absolutely woeful shooting from us in the second half (especially Jimmy), but these are massive 3 points for us in the context of the league.el grapadura2009-05-23 20:08:08

Yep, well played Magpies. A pretty good & competitive game considering the conditions. We didn't make enough of the gale in the first half, taking a 1 or 2 goal lead into the turnaround would have made it interesting. You showed us how to do it in the second half, that second goal was class.

A terrible game to have no subs, at least one guy stranded at Karori Park, and another taking off for a game of rugby with 20 to go. That's the Stallions for you ...

And as for the poor little girl who got hit the face with an off-target rocket from one of the Magpies ...
