Not one up yet, so thought I'd do the honours.
Teams this year are:
University Stallions
University ???
Marist ???
Marist ???
Karori Aces (ME)
Karori Magpies
Welly Utd Elite
Stokes 'Vegas'
Been a great leap for us to jump from Cap10 to Cap7, but I'm sure we have the squad to put up a decent challenge with a relatively new influx of players this season.
First round fixtures are:
University v Marist @ Anderson;
Waterside Aces v Waterside Magpies @ Karori 3;
Wgtn United Elite v Stokes Valley @ Happy Valley 1;
Marist Cobras v Uni Stallions @ Miramar 3.

Lets get some banter going here.....

Are Aces playing a pre-season game tomorrow?
Some new teams in the league this year - seems only us, Elite and Stallions are back (unless of the Marist teams is the one from last year). I'm still slightly pissed off we're not in Capital 6 this year after the 'first round only' rule at the end of last season.

Yep, Stallions definitely back and keen to get into it and keep up the banter. First pre-season game we have ever played tomorrow, so I guess that makes us the best-prepared Stallions unit ever. Everyone better watch out!
Welcome Aces, we have heard some lovely things about you via the Uni Beavers blog last season. Surely you are not that bad, but we have to trust our club brothers right? Umm, but don't believe anything that EG and the Magpies tell you about us ...

Yeh we played the Tonners today in a friendly at the ever-so-easy-to-find Alexandra Park. We lost 4-2, but noth teams where experimenting etc, so still hard to tell where we'll be on Sat.
Also 0005, I was told to check out the Stallions blog because there was apprantly a comment regarding us having an Emo kid in our team this year, where'd you get that peice of crap from?? I looked through our squad today and couldnt find anyone who looked remotely Emo
How did the Stallions friendly go today by the way?

He's the one with the heavy black eye makeup - probably plays up front ...
We went 2-2 against an Island Bay team from somewhere higher up in the grades. Good effort for 11 and a ringin to draw against a higher team who have obviously had a umm slightly more intensive pre-season training schedule. A good start.
Anything to add Giddyup?

Just the usual speal that pre-season counts for sh*t and don't read too much into their performance or ours for that matter, it was bloody good to have a run around as a team.We went 2-2 against an Island Bay team from somewhere higher up in the grades. First round all done and dusted, how did everyone find the first week.
We beat the Aces 7-0, so no complaints from us. And if Jimmy hadn't missed a penalty and the Aces keeper hadn't pulled off a series of excellent saves, we could have hit double-figures. The only downside for us was having to play in what looked like a North Wellington kit - wonder if Feverish broke into their clubrooms one night...
Giddyup/0005, what's the story on the Marist team you played today? You guys seem to have had a fairly good outing too...

Curse you Magpies - we thought our 6-1 win would give us the early top spot via goal diff. Have to wait til next week huh? Yeah, the new Marist team looked alright, some good players but I would guess ain't played that much together - they will get better. Good to see the traditional div 7 teams welcoming the new teams in style huh ;) Except for United. I'm sure old Giddyup is still out celebrating his first goal in 3 seasons for the Stallions. Or was it a wayward cross?
As much as I hate to admit it, also good to see the sealords get off to a good start in Div 6.

Yeh wasn't the best start to the season for the Aces this year. Half the squad is new and we just lacked fitness. I had a highly uneventful afternoon upfront because we didn't get the ball up the Magpies end very often and all I had to deal with was a gobby English guy (captain?) at the back wearing Skins.....in April, haha. People wearing Skins always reminds me of Olympic's squad of try-hards dressed head to toe in those 'Sports' warmers

Even though the score suggests otherwise, I was really impressed with some of the saves our keeper pulled off before a lack of communication at the back let him down.
But like I said, we got our backsides handed to us yesterday, and will pick ourselves up and get retribution against the Uni team next week.

Yeah, your keeper was very good. Some of the saves in the first half especially were top class, showed some great reactions.

Haha well cheers for the compliments guys but at the end of the day seven goals were conceced and the old back got a bit sore picking the ball out of the back of the net thats for sure! At least a couple were quite soft goals aswell largely due to my lack of concentration/indecisevness.
But ohwell we can take heart in being comprehensively beaten by a good side who won the grade last year and I'd say will do well this season also. It could well have been worse than 7-0! The Magpies were fitter and managed to create alot of space in midfeild and especialy down the wings therefore allowing chances to be created (with many finished). The game was played in good spirit though which was great to see . However it's still early days and we are a team with new faces so will take time to gel. It will be a step up from Cap 10 for the guys but we'll give it a good nudge! It will be interesting to see how good this Uni team is this week I believe they got dealt to aswell!
Good luck to everyone this weekend and hopefully we can notch up a win!

Oh, you know how to pick at an unhealed wound...top of the table after 15 rounds (4 points ahead of Sealords), but officially 3rd based on 'first round only' results.
Anyway. We're trying to move on from that and not dwell on the past. But scars remain.

This week's draw (11th April):
Karori Aces v University @ Karori 2 (12.30)
Welly Utd Elite v Marist @ Miramar 3 (12.30)
Uni Stallions v Karori Magpies @ Nairnville 2 (12.30)
Marist Cobras v Stokes Vegas @ Kilbirnie (12.30)
Hopefully we can get 3pts over University to get us going this season. While the Magpies have the other Uni side, which will be interesting.

Hard fought win for the Magpies today - we were severely depleted with 6 players away, but we scrapped it out and got the points despite giving away two penalties.
The Stallions played well I thought, and I guess may be disappointed they didn't get anything out of the game, but we'll gladly take the points given the circumstances...

As an absent Stallion I can say that we didn't get nothing out of the game - someone must have missed a penalty, and in Stallions terms that's priceless ...

Good game E.G played in good spirits,thought we deserved at least a draw but that's football, we're more worried now about the two guys who blew their knees out hoping they're not to serious as they look although I'm picking it's season over for them bothThe Stallions played well I thought, and I guess may be disappointed they didn't get anything out of the game, but we'll gladly take the points given the circumstances...

Unlucky 4-3 loss to Varsity yesterday by the Aces. The Uni team had a few tidy players who dictated play, and this showed how new our team was and the need for more time to gell.......and get our fitness up to an acceptable level

Aces lost 3-2 to Marist Cobras, meaning we sit firmly at the bottom of the table. We were 1-0 up after 10 mins, but then fell asleep and showed a sever lack of fitness (being hungover didn't help myself) and see us slip to lose 3-2.

2-2 draw for us against Stokes Vegas. They're a good side, it was a fairly even game, although we are disappointed to have drawn after leading 2-1 at HT and them scoring from pretty much the only chance they had in the second half. Look forward to playing them again, although they had two absolute cocks playing for them.

5-2 win over Marist Cobras. We were absolute rubbish in the first 15-20 minutes, but gradually calmed down and started taking control. Game was wrapped up by halftime, we were 4-1 up.
Bit of a stroll in the second, we didn't really push that hard, but they got a very lucky goal with about 10 to go, so we upped the tempo a bit and got the last goal of the game.
I have to say though, Velodrome is an absolute joke of a football pitch, it's about the size of a pool table. Hard to play good football on it because of the size limitations. And we're back there next week to play the other Marist side. Not too happy about that.

We got first blood in a new uni derby today, 1-0. Made and butchered many more chances than the score suggests. Probably should have won by more, but sure had to fight hard to hold them out over the last 20. Damn younger, fitter players - they're a good side.

we got butchered 7-1 by Welly Utd yesterday at the immaculate Newtown 1. After going 1-0 with 5, we just seemed to be bent over and spanked yet again. Welly Utd had a few tidy players, and it got a biut heated towards the end, but still a nice chance to play on probably the best pitch in Wellington. Oh well, back to Karori Park next week to have a go at the Stallions.
