Just stupid.

My current bug bear, I don't think any player should be paid purely to play football.  Make them coach or paint the club rooms or something but purely to turn up on Tuesday and Thursday and play games in front of 50 people on a saturday, ridiculous.  In fact, I think that should be a rule...not that Capital Football would ever get involved pro-actively.  I would be very interested to see some investigating done by the gaming trusts that effectively fund this league seeing as they are not supposed to contribute to professional sport.

The short termism is truly astonishing, especially when you look at how poor the training facilities at most clubs are.

Just because it's happening now doesn't mean it should happen in the future, especially when the majority of the money is coming from gaming trusts.  Fact is people are being paid to do something they already do, if the money was taken away, who would stop playing?  The money should be earnt, it's absolutely ridiculous.  And even though turkeys don't vote for christmas, I bet if you ran a straw poll of players very few would say that getting $40 -50 for winning a game has anything to do with them playing or not playing.

Everyone thinks it's stupid but no-one is prepared to take a stand.  That's where someone has to show some leadership, whether it's an individual club or capital football.  Spend the money on decent facilities and trainign pitches and you'll get players wanting to come to your club.

For example, why not buy team training kit and have it washed after each session.  I guarantee you'd get more guys at training every week if they didn't have to wash their gear, you've then got a training strip you can use for 3 years for the price of one win bonus per player.  SPend the money on good footballs, or showers at the training facilities.

I can't think of any justification for paying people at any level below Central League (where I think the travel commitments mean some compensation is probably fair enough).

i agree with you - but you try running a club and be the saviour of amateur football by implementing this...good luck in Capital 2.

Someone did take a stand JD.  Sort of.  Stop Out at the start of last year's Central League decided not to pay anyone except the coaching staff.  They blew out, their committee panicked, and threw wheelbarrows of money at a few players to try and stay up.

I suspect this year they're making the same stand again in the lower league.

At the time the always erudite Park Life gave Stop Out big ups for trying to do the right thing.  Most everyone else just laughed at them.

Make of that what you will.

Fair point smithy, but they tried to do it overnight, and at a high level. Maybe admirable, but as a strategy - poorly executed. Anyway, I'v got a blog coming on this which will allow me to get it off my chest and keep Greenie happy.

The success of the Leilei Gao comment has gone straight to his head.

The DomPost have had to take out a court order to stop him harassing them and telling them he should be given Fred Woodcock's job.

If I knew I would. We'll just have to wait and see at the first game of the season on April 5th. Trouble is I don't know where it will be, as CF have kindly booked us for Newtown on the same day as NZ Secondary School Athletic champs, despite being told the ground was unavailable. To think we pay an extra 2k odd to enter this elite league. Melrose anyone?

dont change the subject. So you got the Marist foreigners/futsal team, the sharks Moroccan, Trent, Reginaldo. Did the Imre move come off or did the $ dry up?
Sorry to pick on you Ken, but I know bugger all about anyone else and I need this thread to take off

No idea. I've prob got far too sensible opinions to be consulted. No doubt status quo as otherwise someone might be offended or it might create more work for someone.

With Olympics 50th year ahead of them will they finally get there hands on the trophy, or will Miramar be looking to snatch another one for their prized shelf, will Lower Hutt step up to the plate and take one home, or will Wests get back on their horse and carve their names into that trophy yet again.

Interesting when he is more than likely not training with a Central League team yet due to TW commitments. Most NZFC players won't be avaiable to CL teams until that season finishes plus a few weeks off. Also VERY unlikely to see Stick at LH. He went to Wests for Central League, not money. Why leave the club he's played for since befoe he could walk to go to a worse team in the same league.

Its no longer a problem.

Toffeman your comment below re stick.

"Why leave the club he's played for since befoe he could walk to go to a worse team in the same league".

I think you will find that he he was playing for Lower Hutt and then moved on to petone when he was about 20 or so from memory we played in the same team. also i never or would never suggest that any player goes to other clubs for money as i do not have the facts to say such a thing. like i said in my email it was more than likely bull re him training with LH.
