Not that old. But old enough to remember Alan Devonshire and Trevor Brooking.

Diamonds are 4ever.

If I was a central league club (obvious joke is obvious) I would be worried about the potential of wairarapa united with an actual coach.

G brought him over from the UK via his old contacts so no surprises. More interested to see if any old boys leave, hope not

Mike pickers then? Again can't see it. To be honest I never played him, as he was suspended for both our games against them.

Hey central/capital people, can I ask a dumb question, prompted by a discussion on northern banter thread re mandatory mirrored reserve leagues for div 1&2; mainland has a reserve league that mirrors premier league (excluding Nelson suburbs; but they could if they paid); dunners has one; but not you guys? If I'm right in your region a clubs 2nd team just plays in whatever div they finished in last season; so you don't have all the reserve teams playing against each other - have I got that right? If so, why not; and is there appetite for change?

Kotahitanga. We are one.

Used to be one. It gradually got treated less and less well by the clubs in it, to the extent that one club (Miramar) just did a deal to let a high school team be their reserve team so they didn't have to worry about it.

Then it died.

There is a fair amount of opinion around at the moment that more change is needed.

There is talk about a reserve league again but IMHO it is a rubbish idea.  Most clubs I would imagine would prefer their reserves to come in sharp and match-fit from a competitive league at the highest level they can manage rather than from a 'there by right - kick-about' reserve league.

Sounds like a two tier central league is more likely.

Really? With Central Football? I like that idea. Who from Central football would be able to play Cap Prem level?

Not man, if any.

Which is the main argument against a second tier of central league. It means wellington clubs spending more money (on travel) for a lower or equivalent level of competition.

Would push reserve teams out though, so has some advocates for that reason.

I understood the proposal was voted down? At first glance the proposal sounded like a winner but the more thought I put into it the more I wasn't so keen.

I could be out of date.

I quite liked it too.

Smaller clubs would most likely benefit? Teams with a second team in Cap Prem would be disadvantaged the most I suppose. I like it much more than bringing the reserve league back. Is the current set up not working?

Are you one of those advocates?
Surely if a reserve team is competing and holding their own at the prem/cap 1 level they deserve to be there.Should they be made to play at a lower grade just because they are a reserve team. Each team from every club has the same opportunities to make their way up the grades.
Would you have a reserve grade and end up with some great mismatches! Some reserve teams play alot further down the grades than prem, cap 1.
Surly this will them lower the level of the teams in cap 1,Prem who are struggling to match it with the current teams, thus making an even bigger gap abilty between Prem and CL.

The CL club prem teams are being forced out of prem league with the hope the players will swap to Prem 1st teams in CL2. This is my opinion from what I have read on here and heard external to a club. As I have not seen direct info from the club.  I can see fun and defaults when a gisbourne team enters CL2 or are they barred

As it stands Gisborne cannot afford to enter CL even if they were good enough to make it. They would compete well in a CL2 comp but they can barely make ends meet at the moment just travelling as far as Hawkes Bay every week. Wellington roadies are a step too far unless they get some decent financial backing.

I understand it was voted down by some of the traditional powerhouses such as miramar and a like ...seemingly out of self interest and in my opinion not for the betterment and strength of football in our area.

The two main proponents of the change as I understand it were 2 clubs who have struggled to get into/stay in CL. They were seemingly doing it out of self interest.

The betterment of football in the region doesn't mean giving the weaker clubs a free pass into a higher league. If anything it would reduce the quality and create more of a mercenary for hire scenario than it already is.

Um you sound you are just making up the background and your scenario is a tad conflicting. Weaker league but the better reserve players will move to be in it. You also fail to mention the nonsense at times of having resie teams in the regions top leagues. Especially when Mar are forging links with every semi/pro club under the sun. I'm not convinced but you are being pretty negative there.

I can only go by what I was told. I may have misinterpretted the wording the month or two back I heard about it.

I have no problems with clubs forging links and I have no problem with more clubs having their first teams in CP. I have a problem with just handing a position to a club that hasn't earned it.  All of these clubs that spend a large amount of time and in some cases money developing pathways and players get the short end of the stick if they are all of a sudden going to have the cream of their crop poached by clubs who have nothing. I acknowledge there are examples of this at the moment where a CL club has very little to do with their juniors and go out and buy a team and I am not in favour of this practise.
