Was at the game and looked pretty full strength to me. I said wtf to, surely Wainui should be winning by more than 6.

Wests 1-1 Upper Hutt

I think upper hutt posse are going to struggle this year, had about 3 shots on goal the whole game. Corrales did well to score from a defensive blunder, composed 1-on-1 and rounding the keeper, but he largely had a poor performance today. Was booked for mouthing off, was further warned after the yellow and decided to get his hand bag out towards the end as well, couldve ended badly for him under another ref.

Ryan Thomas and Mo Awad were excellent. Thomas opened the scoring with a shot that took a heavy deflection off Awad, the keeper had already committed himself and was left stranded. Only some good keeping and desperate last ditched defense kept them from scoring further. Keiran Cripps had an absolute sitter in the first half from about 3 yards into an empty net but scuffed it wide, capped off a poor performance from him as well, looked really out of depth the whole game and was pulled off early in the second half.

Wasnt overly convinced with Wests either though, their finishing was poor and could cost them games, as it did this one.

rumours of some massive money being thrown about already. olympic sound like they may have the chequebook out. all for a trophy huh.

Who have Olympic signed for big money? Upper Hutt must have spent a little to get Corrales and Pete Howe?

Petone are offering players stupid amounts, has anyone said yes yet?

Tawa 1 Rapa 1......what the!!!!

Permalink Permalink

Rapa obviously haven't spent enough money this year unlike Tawa that have been splashing plenty of cash on players.

rumour is Dan Wood is offering a pair of shoelaces at sign on and happy hour prices in the club bar if you get on the scoresheet

Also very concerned will be both Central and Capital Federations about the results of Wairarapa and Napier and the possible effect on the Central League if continued.
Pedro, on the other hand, will be a very happy coach.  I doubt whether either Wests (Ole returns) or Wairarapa (cash) would have been targetted for CL-survival points.  I'm sure four from a possible six is very welcome.

its been proved time and time again, splashing out a lot of cash and getting all the "best" players ya can and putting them all in a team together doesnt work, too many stars and not enough workhorses in the rapa team this year, sure they will come right its just a matter of when and if they still want to be serious potential champions they betta sort it out quickly.

not sue what you mean by that but Wairarapa in in Cap Fed for a start

Sorry, looks like you're right.  So Napier are the only Central team left.  What I mean is even more true.  If it has no Central teams in it, the Central League won't be - and the Fed will have to make do with Premier fees.

Remember last year Mar had a Mar of a start to the season, then came on to challenge for the title. It is to early to write off Napier or any other team. Wait till 1/3 to mid season. Then start the speculation.

I was at this. As I walked in the gate Stingray had to save a shot which bounced up off him and hit the cross bar. Didn't cross the line though. Then by the time I got to my (damp) seat in the "stands" and had a chin wag with the watching Olympic spies Schaefs had been sent.

Hard to say with any accuracy what that meant for the game. Upper Hutt had had the best chance to score while it was 11v11, but the form book (cheque book?) would suggest that Rangers would win an even-handed contest.

As it was, 10v11, it was fairly even. Corrales was the difference. Upper Hutt will be stoked with 5 from an available 9. Rangers will be disappointed but probably shouldn't be. They could just as easily have lost it as won it, and a point with 10 men for 80 minutes is not to be sniffed at.

It was entertaining as well. Upper Hutt aren't half bad and Rangers play a nice brand of footy too. Davey F is up there with Endeavour Park as best surface in Wellington.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Sounds about right other than (cheque book) Corrales and the other /forward/striker who played on the other side to him looked good as well, just did not get the ball in the open positions he took up.

Dunno. I'm sure Louis is getting paid, but I reckon not very much. Not sure about the other guy.

For Mar I'm not really sure, but probably some moderate payments to a bunch of players rather than big money to anyone in particular.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

unsure as to why UH are creaming themselves over having a few points on the board. They have signed three ex National League players, including one of the best around -  so they should be backing themselves to finish higher than wooden spoon contenders.
