Just wondering when the Central League clubs are all starting their pre-season trainings...
if they haven't already.

And... are Gisborne still in the league?

WU start next Thursday 17th at McAlistair (sp?) 6 to 8, every Tuesday and Thursday after that. Newtown 1 is our home ground again so players can take advantage not just of the best surface in Wgtn but the best facilities off the field too. 1st team coach is Ross Durant. All new and ex players welcome. Advertisement ends.

Petone start on Thursday 17th at Memorial, 6.30pm, all welcome.

I have to question who's got the best facilities/surface around Wellington but Petone would certainly be right up there amoungst the best.

Don't disagree, I was only really thinking about the local Wellington area.

Have to agree Wgtn United have the best facilities. That Melrose Park that some of their teams use is something pretty special! That pitch should be declared a hazard zone.

Sorry, couldn't resist it. I know the baboons over the fence have been seen playing with more than the odd football that clears the fence there.

Yup, gotta love using Melrose Park as a training ground, including the artificial cricket pitch which runs straight through the centre of it.

Still, it does beat Nairn street where we used to train...only half the lights worked and it was either a dust bowl or a sewage reservoir, depending on what part of the season.

That's it for the off the topic post

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

FYI. Stop Out's training sessions will be ninety minutes only. Simple reason "cos games are only ninety minutes". They'll be having three sessions a week.

Can anyone advise where Stop Out will play their Central League games this year as the raceway has been re sown and it would be a miracle if it was ready in time. I can see that they have that piece of grass in front of their club, but I understand it is full of rocks as the council didn't use the correct top soil when laying this area?

The old number 1 pitch will be out effectively for the season, as we don't want to get on it too soon and ruin it.  I understand that there is another few levels of 'good' topsoil to goonto it, before they sow seed.  It will then be big enough for 2 full size pitches.

Number 2 (in front of the clubrooms) has had lots of work done on it since they cocked up with the topsoil last time (3 years ago).  Having reffed junior games on it last year, I can honestly say we didn't find many stones, even after rain.  However an extra 150mm is being put on it in the next few weeks, we believe it will be up to Central League quality for the year.

The new changing rooms are right next to the clubrooms at the top of that pitch, and I can honestly say that the only water coming in is piped, not coming through the roof like the old Dulux stand changing rooms.

Incidentally, the Council had just gone for resource consent to prior to demolition of the last stage of the redevelopment, the ugly and wrecked Dudley Cottage .  Somehow it  was torched last Tuesday, and must have saved quite a bit on demolition fees.  Stop Out's committee all have watertight alibis
