Back from IBU/Wainui. IBU bossed most of the game. Chenry in goal for Wainui was outstanding. Made a handful of quality saves. Nui had a couple of very good chances to equalise in the end.

Vic Uni beat North End 3-0.  North End had better of first twenty minutes, but Uni scored just before halftime.  Two goals in the second half sealed it, including the last straight in from the corner kick.

Reminds me of the Onehunga Mangere coach today. Early 2nd half walks out of his technical area down the line to have a chat to the lino. I'm sure he passed him an envelope in the process.

Central 4-1 over Papakura today on an awful pitch out at McLennan Park Tade, Ilich, Roberts and Hamilton Pama the scorers for Central. Kura played well but just couldn't cope with Central.

They have a brand new sand carpet out there! Did they not have you on the #1?

Anyhoo, I was at MAP vs North Shore United. Write up and photos here for anyone interested:

The underlying surface was fine it was just the grass cover that looked awful (Mostly dead) looked ugly and uneven but no one was complaining.

interesting result as wainui sitting bottom cap1 so would of thought IBU would of been comfortable and not just 1-0.
perhaps the boys over in the valley have their  stars coming back on line and capital one is about to be set alight?
or was IBU not in the right state of mind and had an off day?

To be fair , IBU could have/should have won that by 3 or 4. Combo of poor finishing and outstanding keeping by the Wainui keeper; some routine stops which he made look spectacular but a couple of really good saves.IBU were fairly dominant throughout but Wainui did get back into it in second half and could very easily have nicked a draw

Chatham Cup never fails to deliver aye! That Wests/Mar game sounds like a cracker. Love a good father-son sending off!

I'm pushing our friends at the TAB hard to offer odds on the next round.

Can anyone confirm how the draw works, particularly in the Southern Region?  Is it top half drawn against each other (3 CHCH and 1 Nelson) and then the 4 Dunedin teams drawn against each other, or is it the whole South Island?

The wests v mar was incredibly dull until the double sending off. Then the game opened up a bit.

Watched 3Kings vs Bay O yesterday. Decent game Kings had tonnes of possesion in the 2nd half but couldnt score...they could have levelled with the last kick of the game. Not sure having Neil Sykes in the middle of the park helped them at all.

Edit as I was beaten to the punch! But some good match ups, bet Lower Hutt was hoping for one of the Premier League teams instead of Miramar

Third round draw produces crunch ties

Tuesday 3 June, 2014

For immediate release

After a host of thrilling second round matches on Monday, the third round draw of the ASB Chatham Cup has produced another wave of enticing fixtures set for the weekend of June 14-15.

Having overcome Wellington Olympic on Monday at Bluewater Stadium in one of the most thrilling ASB Chatham Cup ties ever, four times competition winners Napier City Rovers will play another home match as they battle Palmerston North Marist for a spot in the last 16.

Rovers, who saw off Taradale in the first round via a stoppage time penalty, currently lie in third spot in the Central League competition with Marist in fifth position.

After their own dramatic extra time win on Monday over Western Suburbs, four-times cup winners and Central League leaders Miramar Rangers will travel to Lower Hutt City AFC while Upper Hutt City – bottom of the Central League and who accounted for 2011 champions Wairarapa United on Monday – face an away trip to second-from-bottom Tawa AFC.

The all Capital Premier League clash of Island Bay United and Victoria University completes the Central Region matches.

The only all-Northern Region Premier League tie sees Birkenhead United entertain five-times winners Central United while 2013 runners-up Waitakere City FC will host Melville United in a re-match of the 2013 semi-final between the two sides won 4-1 by the west Aucklanders in Hamilton.

Elsewhere in the Northern Region, Western Springs AFC – coached by interim All Whites coach Neil Emblen – will host 2010 runners-up Bay Olympic after the Northern Premier League side recovered from a 1-0 deficit to see off Three Kings United at Olympic Park on Monday.

In the Southern Region, defending ASB Chatham Cup champions – and current Mainland Premier League leaders - Cashmere Technical will host fifth placed Halswell United while Nelson club Richmond Athletic will play host to Mainland Premier League side Coastal Spirit.

Further south, Dunedin Technical will aim to progress over South Canterbury Division 1 side Pleasant Point while the contest between Otago University and Northern Hearts AFC will decide the second deep south representative in the fourth round.

ASB Chatham Cup third round matches will be played on the weekend of June 14/15.

Meanwhile, Declan Edge slammed the decision to send his son off and claimed Linney was not ready to referee at this level.

"It was terrible," Edge said.

"The player's gone in for a tackle which is fine and he's pulled out of the tackle at the last minute, knowing he's on a yellow card. A sending off? No. Did it change the game? I don't know but why would you have a national league referee on the line [John Rowbury] and then the young kid that they're trying to promote in a big game like this? He's not ready."
