Hi everyone,

I checked with the Admin to make sure this was okay to post. We run 7-a-side comps in Wellington at Boyd Wilson, St Pats and Alex Moore.

We are really keen to get a competitive and social Women's division started this year. Last season we ran a division at St Pats but it was a mix of social and competitive teams. Everyone still had lots of fun, but I think it would be a real benefit to everyone involved if we could get two divisions of their respective grades set up.

It's a ten week season and at this stage, we've got the women's leagues earmarked for Monday night at Boyd Wilson. Although we are quite happy to look at changing that if enough teams wanted a different night or a venue.

It would be great to have a dedicated social offering for players that want to play women's football over summer.

If you're interested, please get in touch (admin@betterfootball.co.nz) or check out the website www.betterfootball.co.nz.

We are also running a club offer where any teams that register and note their club on the entry form, we'll donate $75 to the specified club.

Cheers!

10-0 to the Sapphires I was told, BNU were struggling to get a team together for the game

Did BNU make it to Kapiti and what happened at Newtown Park

BNU made it to Kapiti lost 7-1

Newtown Park in the W-League Wellington United won 6-0 over Wests and collected their 3rd title in 4 years

They have Coastal Spirit in the Kate Sheppard Cup semi final this Saturday (24th) 1pm KO get down there and give them some support

Although the United/Wests game was abandoned early due to an unplayable surface (but obviously long enough for the result to count)

so Vic uni drop out of W League which means that their prems get the only relegation.

Bit of a worry North Wgtn only drawing with BNU last night if they are going up next season

Wairapapa were down to 2 subs by the last round or two, as were PNM. Comp not in good health.

I didn't see that game, but can you read much into that? BNU's last game of the season, playing for pride after a couple of heavy losses, North Wellington already won the league and nothing much to play for

I think North Wellington's problem will be more if they stick with the long ball style of football that won them the premier league - they'll go much the way of Vic Uni if they stick to that

Don't think NW will be to worried, they have a good mix and i'm sure will attract a few extra players over Summer, BNU struggled for numbers for the second half of the season, which is more worrying, Vic will bounce back up next year, provided they can retain enough to mix with this years 2nds,

Petone 2nds get promoted to Prems think both teams could struggle.

Wests attitude of its not about winning might sit well with younger players, but may see some older we want to win players head down to Alex Moore.

Karori getting stronger although their 2nds chopped and changed a lot and struggled at times to get more than 11 on the park.

Unsure without seeing the game, but a bloody surprising result

Yeah worried for NW, really think there should be a playoff game as the gap between NW and our 1sts is... considerable, imo. Guess we'll see. Wouldn't surprise me if NW had given all their young girls a run out vs BNU.

Must say I'm looking forward to a season with mostly the same team playing a division lower! Probably a higher standard of reffing doing it myself as well, based on what we've had the last few weeks.

So rumours? So we saw Vic Uni unfortunately get dropped causing their prem team to drop as well. North Wellington goes up, who replaces Vic Uni in Prem from Women's 1 or are they going to look at two teams coming up as they had a bye in the league last year.

I'm an optimistic pessimist.
I'm positive things will go wrong.

I feel sorry for the Div 1 sides if most of last year's Uni Prems side is coming back.

Alex Brodie is staying on as Uni Women's coach and I believe Connor Clements is taking over the reserves but not 100% sure as no longer invovled.

Yeah its hard when one side gets dropped and it affects all the lower lot. Hope it doesn't cause to many players to leave. You moved to a new club or just don't have the time?

Haven't moved - still thinking about what time I've got available and what I want to do with it, club decided to go a different direction

Petone Reserves and Island Bay were the top 2 in Div 1 so should go up , not sure if Island Bay will - they opted out of going up last season hence the Prems having 7 teams

Have heard North Wellington looking at setting up a reserve team so they may get a place in Prem

Difference between fired and not offered another season but effectively yeah - same thing as "club decided to go a different direction" but phrased more kindly to myself! I hope both the 1sts and reserves bounce straight back into the grades they're capable of performing in next year.

Might be around women's football depending on if/where my sister ends up playing the season, which is why I was ever involved in the first place, but have no idea of whether she'll be back playing for uni or not.

Best thing about it is no longer having to put up with Capital Footballs incompetence!

Lol  makes you feel any better the club i was coaching also took a change of direction, they had there first session last night and three 1st and 2 2nd team players turned up

Didn't quite know where to put this, but seems someone has taken to twitter to air a number of beefs, particularly regarding women's football pathways.

FemaleNZ twitter takes

Here's a selection:

Kotahitanga. We are one.

based on their last tweet it is clearly someone associated with Ole.

i see CF are introducing winter squad training for National Womens Lge.

That account made a pretty silly factual error before Christmas and ended up with egg on its face (and disappeared for a week or two). Weird mix of issues between women's football and club licensing regulations.

Tweeted their congrats to Matt Garbett, but denies any association with Ole.

Personally I agree with her, and Ole will play a big part going forward in having our female players at a higher technical skill level. Sorry but the current Football Ferns team are terrible to watch - even post Heraf.

Would love to see a Nix team in the Aus W-League making the Nix have a girls academy too. Not every player will learn best the Ole way, so would be good to have diverse options for high level coaching.

Biggest issue to address is still player numbers though.

Not sure why that suggests an Olé person given Maya never thought about quitting football full stop. I know of at least 3 players who have or nearly have quit football as a result of their experiences being part of the FFDP.

I am associated with Olé but I am not behind that Twitter account.

Edit: I also think I've heard the rumour that tweet is about and it is a player that has publicly had very high expectations placed on her.

25 Jan 06:12

I reckon it's an aucklander, given the pre-occupation with AFF politics.

29 Jan 04:58

Have many male players become disillusioned with the AWDP to the point of wanting to quit football?

I know of at least 1 U17 rep that did give up football for a period.

16 Feb 22:26

Are the "Nixie Chicks" finally going to happen?

It's a pity there's already a Canberra team because that would be a perfect base for a Capital Connection. Maybe we can go halves with the Salties and play in Gosford.
