Interesting comment from Domey, looking at a youth women's team to play in the NWL. Would be nice if they could get it sorted before the new season so there was 8 teams and no bye.

wonder what their case is for the point of it

I assume to get into the women's set up and hope to get into the Australian National Women's league

they would need a bit of a detailed plan that that

And I would hope they have one. Set up an academy like the boys, girls from around the country come in. They can attend Scots College now that they accept girls, play for the Nix during Summer and Lower Hutt in the winter. Would assume Nix have more of a plan that Domey couldn't just get out in a short tweet.

and the FFDP?

Would keep being the FFDP. The boys have Ole (and other academies), I realise the women's game is thiner on the ground but I don't think it is that thin that it couldn't have another acemdy in the space.

Until there is a team in the W-League there is zero point. And if having a team in there isn't going to help with their existence issues - then they should stick to the items that do prop them up. Being in the direct space of FFDP isn't something NZF would necessarily want (a replacement however would be different)

I'm guessing the Uni girls were on holiday this weekend? Bit of a hiding up in Palmy?? Advantage PNM. You get the feeling Wairapa is going to trip up at some point - they have been having a lot of one goal victories.

Uni Resies beat Wgtn Utd Resies so maybe not

1sts had lots unavailable, quite a few had exams yesterday so couldn't get to Palmy in time. 2 of mine played 90.

We only had 12 and Wellington United were the better team but we took our chances and they missed some sitters. Stunning free kick with 5 to go. Pretty stoked really, but next week is when fielding 11 gets interesting

Grapevine is that a coach without the required quals will be taking the Capital NWL team this year.
And yet in the same breath Capital Football are going to start penalising clubs in the W-League and MCL who's coaches don't have the required quals.

Either the qualifications that they deliver matter or they are simply a money making scheme for Cap Footy...

It would be nice if Capital Football lead from the front for once, instead of putting requirements onto clubs that they don't even try to meet themselves.

18.14 Participant head coaches must have a minimum OFC/NZF B License coaching qualification or international equivalent.

06 Jul 22:22

who is the coach?

Founder

Someone without the necessary qualification :/
No point throwing their name out just yet.

New to the forum but have been watching local women's football (mainly prems, W-league, capital NWL) for a few seasons now. I'm friends with a W-league player who has some intel that the new coach is likely to be one of the w-league coaches.

Any player predictions for the capital NWL selection? The team I have seen play the most is Karori because they're close to where I live, but I have a few observations from other games/teams I've seen. Just a list of players that have stood out to me so far and could have a good shot at making the team.

Karori

Z Barrott - has had a phenomenal season from what I can tell at centre back, pretty much unstoppable 1v1. Having made the team last year I don't see why she won't make it again this upcoming year.

M Blackburn - great fullback with good movement off the ball, lethal runs up the flank. Surprised she hasn't been picked up for NWL before.

S Willette - American import at left back? Probably one of the most dependable players I've seen on Karori, makes it easy for any player to play alongside her because she connects passes really well and works hard off the ball. Defensively calm, mature decision making. Very solid 1v1 as well. Played in NCAA (I think?) so could bring that experience to NWL.

K Ward - Another American import, forward. Carrying the team goal scoring (and assist) wise. Tenacious, always finds a way to score. From the sidelines seems like she brings positive energy to team. Played in NCAA (I think?) so could bring that experience to NWL.

United

M Robertson - ball control and movement off the ball is great. One of the strongest forwards in the league. Has made the NWL team in past and has been a star player, no reason that she will not make the team again.

J Robertson - has had a good goal tally this season which is hard to ignore, movement off the ball great too. Has made the team in past and no reason for her not make it again.

B Palmer - goes without saying, great wing player. Feeds crosses into the box really well, hard worker. Will definitely make NWL team if that's on her radar.

E Main - not sure if she will be around for NWL season, but great distributor and team player. Would make the team if she was around.

S Alder - brings calmness, maturity defensively. Very dependable player. Not sure if she has played NWL before? Would be a good addition.

Petone

L Boobyer - probably Petone's best player, interesting to see her playing defense though. Always seemed more of a midfielder. Has made NWL in past but will probably face steep competition if wanting to play defense. Good distributor of through balls.

No. 15 (captain) - tenacious defender, didn't seem to get beaten often 1v1 (shut down that right side) during the game I watched

VUWAFC

N Baird - in previous seasons have seen her score some pretty great goals from well outside the box, good central player. This season haven't seen as much from her, but also think the cast of girls around her isn't as skilled as they have been in previous years.

Unfortunately I have not seen much of the other teams to write about, just preliminary observations on my end

Should be an exciting end to the season at both ends of the league!

Next week fixtures:

Vic Uni v Petone x2 - they a midweek catchup game as well which will all but decide the relegated team.

Wairarapa v Palmerston North Marist
- Big game especially for PNM who also play Wellington United in the coming matches!

Karori v Wests

United v Seatoun

First Uni vs Petone match is Thursday evening at Boyd Wilson, for anyone interested.

Think Petone have been too foccussed on promoting their Div 1 team this year.
Will be interesting who they play this weekend as a lot of players must be near that 10 game threshold for not being able to be dropped down anymore. I understand that a number of division 1 teams have laid complaints about them dropping players this season so at least the last few teams that play them will be happy.

The focus has got to be the game this Saturday of course. If the W-League doesn't stay up in the W-League league, the Div 1 team cannot go up anyway.

clearly they were doing things above board if they weren't docked any points?

They weren't doing things above board, have definitely been dropping players 2 divisions which is against regulations, Capital Football just didn't care when we contacted them. 6 weeks since the complaint and they can't even be arsed to reply.

Won't matter if the Uni girls can play like they did last night for the rest of the year, barely gave Petone a look in. Some immense individual perfomances, will be hard to beat on Saturday if they back it up.

Surely teams can drop players 2 Divisions if that's where their 2nd team are ? Otherwise from a mens perspective, teams such as Stop Out, Lower Hutt, Karori, North Wellington would all be in breach of the regulations when dropping a player from their 1st to 2nd team ?

01 Aug 21:23

If you look a page or two ago, the regulations specifically say "one division", not "one team". I'm fine for them not to enforce it like that because it doesn't make a lot of sense, but not to even communicate that if it is the decision is bizarre.

There's also a suspicion that it was more than 3 players, but that's why we asked Capital Football to look into it.

yeah Nelfoos has  an incorrect interpretation of the rule which is porb badly written.

Founder

02 Aug 03:25

Yeah the reg is written as:

17.5.1 Up to three players can be re-graded one league down from where their usual team plays

Which makes Nelfoos interpretation entirely understandable and certainly in need of clarifying. But yeah it has always been understood as  team not league re how it is used.

so did Petone B do any wrong?

Founder

The 2 clowns coaching Petone wouldn't know anything about the regs etc.so can't see them so called stacking second team.

Petone were docked their win against Miramar in the Executive Plate due to dropping Kelly Cup tied players. Don't believe they have been docked any points from dropping players in the league at this stage.

Feel for them, looking at comet - Petone scored the winner on full time!

Don't think you need to call them clowns just trying to do a good job for there club

Petone coaches also work for CF. if they have dropped more than three then think IBU or Rapa would be asking CF for a please explain if they miss out on promotion

so VUW pretty much need at least a point v Seatoun on Sat?

VUW need 3 points vs Seatoun really, gonna be easier to beat them than PNM.

for sure, but will prob need at least a draw in the other game anyway? unless they clock up a massive win :)

Founder

06 Aug 02:33

Yup, need 4 points minimum, but that relies on Toun and Petone not drawing (and possibly Karori not slipping up vs Toun - but I'm sure you've got that under control?)

I think we hold the power ha. Or Petone v Toon could make a gentleman's agreement?

Wouldn't be overly gentlemanly! Still, gotta beat Petone and take a point off PNM before any of that really matters. Have to do our job first.
