So Strange happenings in the Central Womens play offs After 1 game where they lost 4-0 NPGHS has conceded defeat to PN Marist 1st's. They do not want to play the return fixture (being home and away playoff). This leaves PN Marist to play Petone this Sunday for promotion at Memorial park in Palmerston North (I am assuming this will be home and away as well but not sure).

I am hoping to get along to the game

Lol Fair Call. Are there some big plans for Valeron Womens next year Craig?? I hear rumours you guys might be inheriting a mens side again?

31 Aug 07:20

Had a couple of teams approach us, re mens. However focus will be on Women's 1st fella!

First leg of the play off on Sunday. Can't wait to watch what I'm hoping will be an end to end attacking game. Could be a few tired legs though with tournament week this past week.

Predictions? I could see Petone pinch a 3-2 but that might just be my one-eyedness coming through

04 Sep 06:26

I reckon 3-2 to Marist with a hattrick to Boxall.  I think tourney week will hurt Petone more than Marist.

I also think Petone will take out the second match - will be interesting...

04 Sep 07:18

If she gets good service from the mids then she will be a threat

04 Sep 11:17

It's just going to be a freaking awesome game to watch. I can't wait, the missus is excited for it as well. I don't know enough about petone to call it one way or another but I hope the marist girls can pull it off.

04 Sep 21:55

It's going to be a very open game on the big Memorial pitch, tournament week will test Petone a bit more with more involved, however I think both sides will be tested late in the game. The side that takes those chances late on will have the upper hand going into the 2nd leg, for Marist the key is the quality of Nottle in the centre midfield if she steps up & gets service to Boxall & co game on, for Petone I also haven't seen them enough but what I feel hearing through sources, is they will create problems for the Marist defence with their pace. So game on & may the best team win. Interesting couple of weeks for a lot of people!

haven't seen Marist but I'm picking them by a few

A good day for it. Sun is out and no rain  in sight.  Other than a cold light breeze awesome conditions.

4-0 marist already. might as well flag the other leg

5 nil at half time against the wind.  Tj with a hat trick and Hannah with 2. Boxall not on the sheet yet. Nottle owning the midfield. Petone look like they only just woke up 30 mins into the 1st half then started putting some good Play together however not really threatening marists goal.

06 Sep 02:21
Two red cards as well, one for each team. I know Petone are missing their captain and centre midfielder so think that may have to do with lack of attacking play but still sounds like Marists is the better team.

So full time 5-0 petone didn't seem to have anything going forward even when they were on the ball they could string some good passes together but nothing dangerous in front if goal.
The reds were interesting petone player punched a marist player in the head after a foul, from what I saw marist player got up and pushed them away then started walking threateningly towards the phone player as more ran in.
The petone keeper had a very good second half seemed to get her confidence up after a couple of saves and did well.
Marist keeper also got a yellow for taking out a player out of the box proper professional foul by her.

06 Sep 02:42

Player not phone stupid phone auto correct.

06 Sep 06:53

We were worse for wear after tournament week. Injuries, tightness and tired legs didn't help. Don't let that take away from Marist though. They were sensational in the first 35 minutes and scored some of the best goals I've seen this season.

I'm hoping with a week to recover things will be better next week. Good enough to turn around that scoreline? Probably not.

06 Sep 06:56

What Marist player got sent?

06 Sep 07:01

Boxall I think. Was overheard threatening the Petone girl as they left the field as well

06 Sep 07:27

jeez... Shades of that scrap down in Christchurch.

Did the Petone player really punch someone in the head after a foul?!

That will prob earn her a pretty hefty ban if true!

06 Sep 07:47

Yes Boxall fir marist got the red.

06 Sep 07:49

I'm gutted I will miss the return fixture if today was anything to go by will be a good feisty game.

New Zealand's oldest Women's trophy - The Kelly Cup, was played yesterday with Seatoun beating Stop Out 5-0.

It was preceded by the Executive Plate in which Tawa beat North Wellington 3-2 after extra time

Here is my take on the games

Nice little write up.

In regards to Cap not really promoting it - I think its because it reminds them of last years disaster.

Last year Capital Football had a fantastic amount of entrants - I'm not sure of the exact figure but it was definitely over 20 teams.

After some crazy scheduling (random teams still receiving a bye in the third round etc) this year they only had 9 entries (2 from the same club).  The way it was run put a lot of clubs off.  It is a shame - it used to be a really interesting cup competition.

Kelly Cup Final - Pic of the day.

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

She'd  be a hard one to mistake. Think she was the only Marist player with short hair.
