Women's central league just got interesting with upper Hutt beating WU yesterday. Upper Hutt are done for the season with 30 points and final two games are PN  marist  v WU home and away with them both on 27 points.
This could be awesome.

This could be awesome.

It's pretty simple permutations though:

If WU win a game, they win the league

If PNM win both, they win the league

If both are draws, UH win the league.

Though, in theory, goal difference could change, but that is very unlikely.

31 Jul 23:11

Agree it's simple but it makes for an exciting last couple of games

01 Aug 11:12

and reading a few articles online it would seem PN Marist did a houdini escape vs Moturoa from New Plymouth ???  1-0 win in stoppage time so reports say.

A tight finish looming which is great for the league

Well hopefully the girls don't have to play it out splashing and sliding around in water....

Also just announced are the National League coaches for the Capital Region. Wow. They just undertake a review of how to make the Women's Central League better and then this?? Coaching (lack of good coaches) was brought up as an issue was it not?

Last year they announced Tom Randles as Head Coach. A coach who at the time wasn't even coaching women's football and previously had only coached in the Women's Premier League. Capital Football said they were doing this to ensure the coaching staff were 'neutral'. Needless to say things didn't work out.

Now they have announced Emma Evans and Sam Morrisey.
Emma was a given and ensures that Capital ticks their 'must have a female coach box'.

But Sam... You may as well say to every Central League Coach. Stuff you. We don't care about you or your pathway.
It is too hard and political to have one of you guys as a coach.
Sam might not even be the top Premier League coach but he works from next door so it's just easy right?
They wonder why women's top coaches continue to quit!?

With the 'women coaching women' aspect at the top ... you have detractor one.
We know there is not the money like there is for the men's central league ... detractor two.
Now we have 'coach a central league team and you will never be a national league team coach'... detractor three (sorry unless you are female).

How hard is it to have open applications for the National Women's League Coach? As part of providing the best environment for the players I would certainly be including the current top women's central league coaches in Wellington. And if you are worried about all the players going to one Central League team the next year, just have a rule that you cannot be coach for back to back years. They change every year anyway so it wouldn't be any different.

You gotta wonder why you bother at times...

05 Aug 09:16

so you either appoint a WU or UH coach and either way half the team are pissed off/happy (as they are all from those two clubs) - so why bring that angst to the team?

Founder

05 Aug 20:07

Or co-coach.

I don't think it would bring angst.

The girls just want a good coach... Wendy is a CL coach and I don't there were too many issues re game-day selections last year.

That's why you have an assistant or co-coach anyway... And three people selecting the team ideally.

Why would we not want the best coach(es) coaching the best girls?

Please and retain the players with the best coaches... And please and retain the coaches (something to strive for)

05 Aug 20:42

and are you saying that just because someone coaches in CL they are better than a Premier coach for example?

Founder

06 Aug 04:51

Not at all. But they are used to coaching girls of a particular level and speed. They also know and have seen the majority of the players that will make up the national team which is a big advantage when they only have about a month preparation.

His team is not exactly dominating the Premier League either. I remember that they used to.

I guess I would like to see and application process put in place to give coaches at least a chance be looked at.

07 Aug 05:31

Well done to WU with a 0-3 win!

Did Wendy H put her hand up for the job this year?

Predictions for the WCL following round 1 results?

WU beat Seatoun

UH beat PNM

Stop Out beat Valeron

Moturoa beat Massey

Mine would be:

Wellington United

Upper Hutt (or third if they lose Cush for any top four matches)

Palmerston North Marist

Seatoun

Moturoa

Massey

Stop Out

Valeron

So, well see the final table in a few days... Other than Stop Out - I'd say I did pretty well! Too bad there is not a TAB option available for WCL haha

14 Aug 03:23

Fantastic to see WU take out the CL with a good win today.

Not so good to see that Cap Football couldn't be bothered to come out on a Sunday with the trophy though. Isn't this meant to be your premier Women's event? You had the two teams that could win it playing each other - surely it's not that much of an ask to have the trophy at that ground is it?

I think you can guarantee more effort will be made next weekend. It's sad that the two top grades are treated so differently.

It's not the two top grades - it seems more how they treat men v women, they had no problem turning up with the Venus shield at the re-arranged ground on Saturday to present to men's Cap Prem champs Waterside-Karori

Yeah that's exactly the point I was making - although not that well. You have have two central league divisions which surely should be considered their top competitions. One is neglected the other is fawned over - only difference is men vs women. And yet as you say lower men's grades do get looked after, becomes pretty obvious that they don't view the WCL as important which is extremely disappointing.

Would you have been a bit cut if the Venus Shield wasn't there after you rightfully claimed the Mens Premier League?

Ps - judging by the photos I've seen they enjoyed the moment!

15 Aug 08:32

don't know if this is still true but Capital footballs highest league is premier and the Central leagues are run by another group of idiots.

hence the Venus shield being available and the central trophies not being available.

but still it is not a good look for men or women football to not have the prize at the game that was a certain to conclude the winner.

and with no other games to be played it makes a bit of a anti climax for the player.

so those on the Womens advisory i think need to be asked to get there "shark" together or push off

This is nothing but a "shark" sandwich with no bread.

Well done Wellington diamond united for a great season of one loss sand 11 wins

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

Can also guarantee that if the MCL went to a deciding match between the two teams that could win it, it wouldn't be played on a pitch where the ball literally stops still  in the mud in the center circle. And if the pitch was in bad condition like that, they wouldn't schedule a lower division game on it the day before.

Amateur hour all round from Cap Football here.

Ask the teams in the box seat to win a trophy, that would prefer not to have the trophy at the park. (Bad Karma)

Exactly, that's all it would have taken. It's one thing to not have the trophy, but there's no excuse to not have the courtesy to show up at the aftermatch to congratulate the teams in lieu of a trophy.

It's not about telling the teams to enjoy the moment anyway, they clearly did. It's about having some respect for the competition and the teams involved.

point proven - 3 team could have won MCL16 and CF
