Playing sunday league in auckland and a player from the opposition called the ref a "black c****". Their whole team were at him throughtout the match and afterwards demanding he tell them his name so they can lay a complaint. The ref wasn't even that bad, they just made it hard for him by being tools. Haven't seen such poor behaviour on a football field. I believe the league managers have been notified

the disciplinary committee cannot of acted this quick….. could they?
if so they have acted a bit quick as i would of thought they would make sure they had all the information cross checked before laying down such a harsh penalty…..
but there may be more to this than just some verbals?
good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for
but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

disciplinary committee not required unless appealed I think.
maybe they might claim the noises came from the zoo as the game was at Newtown Pk

It was Cap4 and as the referee heard it and red carded him at time, it was part of referee's report and dealt with accordingly. Apparently another guy was sent too (not sure what for) so it was a testy game which Welly United were getting pumped in (lost 6 nil).
From what I've heard from Kapiti people it was against a Ugandan lad and was derogatory abuse in the form of monkey noises.
Unacceptable and good to see it dealt with swiftly and appropriately.
The ban actually seems light but I'm guessing it's in accordance with the disciplinary guidelines.

Cap 4 game.
1st red card: keeper missed ball, eyes on ball but really bad collision. Red card, penalty, converted. 10mins in this was. Half time 2-0.
20mins to go the African boy, who was very skillful, caught offside. Player in orange said something he now regrets I am sure. He was 50m away and near the ref, it didn't seem to be yelled directly at the player so he would hear.
KCU players said after the game, to the ref, go to the club first to resolve it, don't go to Capital Football.
Nice intentions in these actions, and the boy himself made no response or reaction. So all class on KCU's part for being above it.
Oh Wellington is wonderful. We got the wind, the rain and the phoenix. Oh Wellington is wonderful.

7 April 2014
Dear clubs,
RE: Incident from 5 April 2014 involving Wellington United and KCU
It is with much disappointment that I inform you of an incident from a Capital 4 match on Saturday, 5 April 2014 between Wellington United and Kapiti Coast United (KCU) which was brought to our attention via a referee’s report; which is standard practice after evidence of misconduct during a match.
A Wellington United player participating in the game at Newtown Park was sent off after there were noises directed at an opposition player which the referee determined were of a derogatory nature.
The player was deemed to have displayed serious misconduct under New Zealand Football’s Regulation 7: Penalties for Misconduct and has therefore been given a 10 game suspension.
The club has the right to appeal the decision to the Appeals Committee of Capital Football as the suspension is more than the minimum relevant to the offence being five matches.
I would like to re-iterate to everyone that there is absolutely no room for conduct such as this to exist in football and as Capital Football has previously stated, responsible parties will be dealt with severely.
Incidents like this take away from the game and we all need to put up our hand if we see evidence of it and report it to truly ‘stamp out racism’.
Yours truly,
Richard Reid

Its not acceptable in the eyes of the club either; as an ex-Diamond, the club takes a dim view on such behaviour. Its a shame as many good players have built up a good reputation for the club over the years. Hope the lad is contrite.

so theres more to this as the normal suspension for this type of offence would be 5 games as per Richards letter and so for it to be 10 games there must of been some extreme reached by this player……
i do hope the player learns his lesson and uses the 10 weeks to reflect on what he did

Wonder if the club will back this up and issue a statement or just sit back and hide away hoping nobody finds out, like most instances of this behaviour I've seen in the past.

Apparently WU have imposed an extra 7 week ban to basically spell end of his season so they've come down hard (appropriately so).

Typical. Didn't say that. It's not professional sport. Punish the guy, he certainly deserves it. But no need to release statements. Are you just after a name and a witch hunt?

Good. About time clubs actually got serious and didn't just solely rely on CF to do the work.

Chill buddy. I know how big of a deal it is and I had no doubt the person was going to be dealt with appropriately.

For those who just turn up and play and don't deal in club management here is an insight-whenever an allegation is made like this a club (or at least a good club) follows a process which gathers facts from both sides and makes an informed decision based on those facts without acting on hearsay or emotion. So well done WU on handling it well. The player's behaviour is not indicative of the values of that club and anyone who has been involved in WU for any length of time will know that.

I love the over dramatic wording... Its serious incident, but really...
"Capital Football has again been embroiled in racism allegations"
"The code was already under a cloud after revelations of on-field discrimination last season"
Good quotes from both clubs and they seem to be happy with how it was dealt with.

How is it 'over dramatic' if it's a serious problem?
"The code was already under a cloud after revelations of on-field discrimination last season, sparked by a complaint from African players from a Seatoun premier team. The investigation found at least 50 allegations of racially abusive comments recorded by the district's clubs in the past three years."
Seems worthy enough of the wording IMO.

Hmm, guess you're right. I'm probably biased against the Dom Post and took it as another attacking article from them, as they really seem to never write positively about football in NZ, but in this case with the incident and the history of them it is a serious problem.
