In a recent wests match, a hilarious conversation was overheard between a small boy and his mother.
"Mum, why do the players in red shirts keep calling that fat man "c**ty"?" boy asked. Before his mum answered, he continued "Isn't a rude thing about females?". The mother said "That is his name.!"

Mark Bartlett, Dan O'Brien and Cory Chettleburgh were the only 1st team players in the team today.
Was a good game for the neutrals today, highly spirited and competitive match. Wharfies' goal was a textbook cross met with a textbook header by Adam Crump, very well taken. Wests played some good football at times but just couldn't cope with the physical long ball approach that Karori took. Well done Wharf with the 3 points and good luck for the rest of the season.

Why is it that everyone bitches about the longball? Seems to me that during winter in Wellington this is really the only viable option. Any team that wants to play pretty short passing football is realistically going to be unsuccessful. Just look at Wellington United. Arguably the prettiest footballing team in the League (with some of the best players) but probably going to finish mid table. Football is not all about short passing. Undoubtably is is a better to watch and it would be nice if skillfull player were rewarded however at the moment this is not the case. For most clubs winning and getting to the Central League is the most important consideration.

Pretty football is the WRONG way to play football at your average Capital Premier mudbath. Anyone who thinks different is ignorant. As I stated in my last post I would much rather play and watch a team pass is around but it is generally not possible in this league. Teams who set out to do this are misguided. End of story.

If I were a coach of a club who wanted promotion to the Central League I would want to play long ball all day. High intensity balls over the top type football. At the end of the day you can have your pretty football (and finish bottom of the league). I would rather win ugly then go play nice football on the good surfaces over the summer. Hard to enjoy playing your nice footie when you get pumped every other week.

There's room for nice football and winning too mate. We manage to achieve it with relative success and pitches up here aren't perfect.

Most pitches here in July/August have to be seen to be believed. Even longball is difficult to play when you're knee deep in mud.

Dont know where 'up here' is but have you been to Karori Park, Wakefield, Naenae, Newtown Park (in winter), Kilbirnie park or any of the other hell holes teams have played at this year. Four small corners of grass with your choice of waterlogged, super bobbly or mud-bath to play your nice football in. sh*t we dont even always get lines all the way round...

There are probably only one or two pitches left in wellington (Endeavour?) that would allow anyone "to play" without it being recklessly irresponsible.
KP no 1 was so ridiculous on saturday that at one point when four of us were thrashing about for the ball in a massive puddle/bog I actually just walked away and decided to watch instead.

Would they not celebrate because their team did not play a nice passing game? Would they rather have total football and no World Cup Title.
This arguement is ridiculous. Play to your strengths...and in Wellington to the conditions. Winners are grinners Buffy.

I think if you look objectively at the league... Clearly the two best "footballing" teams are united and stop out. However the two that will finish 1st and 2nd on the table will be UH and wharf. There is no doubt the most organised team, that try the hardest each week, have a handful of good players and can combat the mud with a long ball game plan will win this league - okay alright end of argument.

Holland played anti football all tournament. Germany were actually good and did pass well. Spain won with perfect football.

There's a difference between playing the odd long ball to mix it up a bit or switch play, and setting your stall out from minute 1 to hoof it at every opportunity.

Having a look at this draw - the season is going to close on a real humdinger. Assuming all the results go as planned (even though I'd love to knock over UH and WU).
Karori could play UH in the last game of the season, a win to Karori, and they could take it on goal difference (assuming they HUMP Kapiti - which if we can score 6, anyone can to get their goal diff up).
Man, what a great way to finish the year - also, looking forward to our last 3 games being at Te Whaea/Newtown

Wharfies lost to island bay. The world has gone mad. Midget goalkeepers well represented at the turf. Three (possibly four) of of four teams sporting five footers. Marist looked like a rabble during warm up. Predicting a big win to Upper Hutt.
