Had NOOO idea where to post this. Is there a footgolf course or set-up anywhere in Wellington?

No but there is one in Whitianga - and I would love to help set one up in Wellytown!

It's just case of finding a big enough piece of land - easy haha.

Hutt Park golf course is a piece of rubbish, should do it there.

Set it up on the concourse leading to the ROF. That'd be fun!

Would be great fun apart from trains popping footballs from the hook/slice

So...did any Footgolf places pop up?

If not, anyone know a place big enough to handle this kind of set up based on 9 holes?

I've tried contacting a few courses as see this is a money maker for them that would outstrip any cost included in extra ground work but it could cause clashes between us Footgolfers and the more traditional Club & Tee types (boo!).

I honestly can't see any existing golf course allowing this although I may approach Hutt Park as their course is limited in its appeal to serious golfers.

Played this up in Rotorua a month back with a mate and it was soo good, turns out the ball rolls much further than expected when there is no player stopping it as happens in games.

The course was 18 hole footgolf set up on a 9 hole golf course, with each golf hole split up into 2 footgolf holes. It was a fully functional golf course still and we had a few guys come through and they thought the footgolf thing was hilarious, even felt the need to dish out their share of stick following one very poor kick. The footgolf holes were usually located just off to the side of the actual greens, so the impact on the golfers is pretty minimal.

We were having a chat to the owner afterwards over refreshments and commented how well it would go down in Welly for team bonding and general pundits. He told us there was a course being set up soon in the hutt somewhere, on one of the existing golf courses but couldnt remember the name off the top of his head. Would be very cool if it did happen, would love another go.

I'd love to get involved in getting something set up as there is a huge potential market here for it. Wonder what course it is. I'd suggest it was Hutt Park especially with Stop Out and the Indoor Sports out there now and can't see it being Shandon or Boulcott.

Holy crap!!! I found it!!!!!!

Footgolf Goodness!

Not sure how well set up it all is but played at Hutt Park, Boulcott and Trentham.

Was going to say, Boulcott has recently had a huge course renovation so they probably fit it in with their new course.

Harcourt Park would be another good place as there is already ( or used to be ) full sized frisbee golf course set up there.

It doesn't seem to be running anymore so may need to contact the courses directly and see if they still offer it. Apparently Silverstream Golf Course may be shutting down/getting sold. Maybe an opportunity there?

Quote from the Footgolf Wellington guy:

"Unfortunately those (Boulcott, Hutt Park, Trentham) clubs haven't set anything up! They were just example clubs I was using when designing my website. I am in talks with a club in Wellington about setting something up but it is early days at the moment. Will definitely let you know once we do have something set up though!"

They were on there as examples but he didn't realise the site was publicly viewable or even able to be found via Google.

Got me all excited for nothing, I was yarning to all the lads at footy about the new courses that had opened in the hutt, lots of enthusiasm shows there is a market for it though...I can see a fine in my future when I tell them I hadn't fully checked out the facts.

I figure we just go dig holes around a few parks and go for it.

Anyone want to pitch in (pun not intended) for a gold course?

I hear Silverstream is for sale

Footgolf!!!

So when this thing finally gets here, who wants to be on my team.

I believe myself to be in the realm of David Beckham for placement but not really much of a long kick on me. My finishing is solid but then they always say "Drive for show and putt for dough".

How do you play out of a bunker though?

Three for me, and two for them.

I'll give it a go. Distance kicking also being my weak point.

I'm so keen for this it isn't funny, the minute it is in Wellington I am going!

I'm the same leighbo - can't kick it that far but I'd back my accuracy.

The guy over the page who has played it mentioned that the one he played has 2 footgolf holes for every 1 golf hole, so that helps in the distance stakes.

Hold onto your plus fours!

I have contact with the Official Footgolf Association of NZ and there will hopefully be 5 holes open in Lower Hutt within the next two weeks (with a view to a sixth hole opening soon after).

The organiser of the Wellington area would be keen to arrange for us to head along for a game...

I'm waiting on a few more details and will then see who is keen.

I'm keen and I know two mates that will be with me as well to do it!

I figured I'd get a group of 12 organised (3 teams of 4 or 4 of 3) and then ask the bloke when we should head along and how much it is. It's very close to a bar for post round drinks as well.

Sounds good, I've just checked with mates and they are keen so that is three of us.

The owner/organiser has been in touch. Just sorting out the finer details with the bloke. If he hasn't thought of it already, I'll be floating the idea of a league with him and will give more info as I come across it.

If you're on Twitter, chuck me a follow @LeighboNZ or even better, email me leigh_clem@yahoo.co.nz so I can get some names and contact details.

This is really great news, any idea when it will be opening for the public to head along? Quite keen to get the team out for a session.

The bloke said he'd hope to have it up and running within the next 4 weeks and would like to get a group of us along to have a test run beforehand (still to be confirmed). Keeping the group to 12 at the moment (4 teams of 3) but best not to rush these things I guess. I know it will be a six hole course.
