Good players at lower level.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

You guys ever puzzled when you see real good players at lower level who don't want to play any higher?

I know that uni and school and work and family commitments can sometimes get in the way but...

If you are in say lower level football and one of your team mates is GOOD would you push them down to first team training?

Some like to be a big fish in a small pool. Others do not like getting out of their comfort zone.

Seen a couple who'd fit nicely into that first category.

Having only started playing football in my mid-30s, the fact that there are few specialist woman keepers at lower levels means I've been able to make my way up to Div 1 level, and from what I've seen of it so far perhaps I could even hack Championship, she said jinxing herself.

Sometimes people just want to play with their mates.  Is that such a bad thing?

All I do is make the stuff I would've liked
Reference things I wanna watch, reference girls I wanna bite
Now I'm firefly like a burning kite
And yousa fake fuck like a fleshlight

This. You'd probably find most of these good players at lower level have played higher before, have had their time playing competitive football, and now just like a social kick around.

Indeed I did. Only for ten minutes though.

This is usually the case in my experience, plus the fact it's often not that hard to stand out in Cap 8 or 9. No offence to those gentleman intended.

Some decent players playing Masters football even.

And sometimes good players just don't get chance. It won't be news to many that with all the politics going on in clubs, it's often who you know rather than skill that will get you up the ranks.

I had that conversation with a mate the other day, it's pretty much the opposite to this. There are always players who play at a high level when they are past it because their old reputation gets them in teams. Usually they can hold their own but there are likely much younger talented players missing out.

Can think of a good example who plays for Upper Hutt.

Fuck this stupid game

My team is full of players, including myself, who've come from Mainland Div4 right through to Reserves and now reside in the lowly Presidents A (Div 8ish) grade due to family/professional commitments. While I would fancy myself for another run at Div1 with a bit of fitness work I enjoy playing the 'social' game. I don't know if it's like this everywhere, but down here there's a common misconception that the football gets worse the further down the divisions you go. While obviously we wouldn't stand up to a Premier side, there are a few guys that would fit in and it's a shame they don't get picked up on due to lack of communication or interest by clubs.
