Why not run it over Laour Weekend? To close to the end of the season, whenever that will be, for us (and same weekend as our prize giving). I'm assuming your interested in out of town teams? And is there a Phoenix game on in town that weekend to help entice us, apart from being the obvious hot favourites to win?

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

There's a Phoenix game versus CCM on the 14th of September. Also one versus the Clogs on Labour Sunday.

Hi Everyone

Its only 3 weeks to go (well 23 days!) until the inaugural Wellington Masters Football Tournament and its time to confirm all registrations please.

At last count we had entries/registrations/expressions of interest for nearly 21 teams which is a fantastic early start.  Notables include Western Suburbs, North Wellington, Olympic, Wellington United, Seatoun, Stop Out, BNU, Waterside-Karori, Lower Hutt, University, Petone and then assembled collections from the likes of a Dave Batty team (ex-Miramar) while Yellow Fever is threatening to get a team in also.  Theres also strong interest from the Sunday Mercantile teams while Wellington City Council is also entering a team (loosely termed the Painkillers!)

Theres been a couple of changes and one or two great announcements to make they are:

  • 17 players (not 15) maximum can be registered per team.  Many teams said they needed some depth, as while there was no shortage of girth, with likely 7 games over two days including Plates or Finals, some extra legs could be well used.  Makes the $300 registration even better value!
  • In the Over 45s, three (3) players aged 42 years plus will be permitted.  Again, many bona fide Masters teams in Wellington play with a mixture of old and slightly younger, so to be inclusive weve allowed this dispensation.  There are no other age dispensations anywhere else though.  Over 45s can play in the Young Masters section, but not vice versa.
  • We are pleased to announce that our own Vaughan Coveny of the Phoenix has come on board as our Fair Play Ambassador.  VC is a Wellington legend and is actually eligible, age-wise, to play as a Master and no doubt several teams will boast someone who has played with or against Vaughan from his Wellington days.  Vaughan will lead the short Fair Play Ceremony we will have on the Saturday morning before the first games kick off at about 9.15ish.
  • In the same spirit of fair play, it will be acceptable for the team captain/manager to signs off the age eligibility on the entry form on behalf of all the players.
  • At 2.00 on the Saturday, the Newstalk ZB Celebrity Match will kick off with teams selected by local Mr Football-on-Air Jason Pine, who rumour has it may be eligible to participate (exactly which age section is unknown).
  • The Saturday Night Bash will be at The Four Kings in Courtenay Place always a great place to get things going.
  • We havent had too many womens teams registered so far and there is the real chance that we will merge those entered so far into the Over 45s section so there will be enough games for everyone.

No heres your bit to action:

The newly completed Flyer/Registration Form and Tournament Rules is up live on www.wellingtonmasters.org.nz.  I now need entry confirmation for planning the draw so now is the time to fill it out, attach the PDF and email it back to me.  Payment needs to be made by September 1 and I can email you the bank deposit details upon your confirmation.  A note if you need a bit of time to confirm players names then I can wait for that but I do need your confirmation through now.

Please reply back to me that you are in before this Friday 22 August or drop me an email if you need the weekend to see everyone and sew it up.  By all accounts there could be some scheduled football in Wellington this Satruday.

Thanks for your help and dont hesitate to call me about anything.

Regards

the only reason I can think of for not being flown back for this team is that Batts doesn't think that I am old enough

Hi Everyone

With 12 days to go things are falling into place for the big kick off.

As it stands at present with the commitments from all and sundry, there are about 12 Young Masters teams, 8 Senior Masters and 3.5 womens teams (yes we need another 6 or7 women players to complete this team so let me know if you hear of anyone interested).  This has all made for three tournaments within a tournament which has been exacting with the first provisional draw.  As soon as all confirmations are in the draw will be made.

Events have been finalised at The Four Kings, our venue for The Saturday Night Bash.  Each team will receive a round of jugs at the 4K from 6.00pm on Saturday, accompanied with platters of eats, letting everyone settle in for a night of sports which will culminate with the Tri Nations decider as the ABs take on the Wallabies at 10pm in Brisbane.  On Sunday afternoon the Kings is the destination again as first stop with a courtesy big bus shuttle laid on for the quick trip to the Stadium to see the Phoenix play the Mariners.  Big thanks to Matt at the Four Kings for making it all happen!

Just a reminder that some teams havent made their final confirmations/payments and the 1 September date now means registration fee is at $325 which must be one only payment per team.  The payment details are on the attached form.  PLEASE!

Dont hesitate to call me if you have any queries over the next few days and expect to receive another e-letter or two over the next week or so (unless you email me otherwise).

Regards
Ian

Best bet is to get to Lyall Bay (on the coast), turn towards the airport and look for a yellow AA sign saying 'Bowling Club'.
