Interesting to see Wests new reserves coach Ron Veitch the same guy who resigned by email and walked out on his last club with 8 games to go in the season. Interesting chap that one is.
Made a name for himself in CHCH by doing that. Walked out on us during pre-season.

Good win by North Wellington over Olympic to get to the 2nd div final. Should be interesting against Petone B next week.

Why was NW allowed two teams in the same grade?

Due to the way the HP was organised this season.

The silverware is in the cabinet so who cares if you thought it was average. A Cap 1 team beating a Prem team is a good result I would think.

2-0 to a very understrength Tawa i'm led to believe. Bogey team for the Greeks.

Just to be clear, i understand they were missing large numbers. The score is correct.

Olympic had the better of the match i feel but Tawa soaked up the pressure well and scored 2 good  goals. I had expected Olympic to be a little sharper given the way they have got to the final. I'm sure they will do well however.

Yes totally correct. Had enough people out before the game, then to lose your captain at centre back and your only striker in the first 5 minutes through injury then it was very well fought. Very poor after the game though (actually very poor) when no one from Olympic turn up to after match, pretty sure every team that comes runners up turns up to after match so really poor from them.

Embarrasing day for the greeks!!

1) beaten for the 3rd straight time by Tawa.
2) Packing a sad and not turning up for the after match that Petone fc worked hard to prepare.. Food etc.

Good luck for the season.....

What a Final! Tawa complete a treble of victories against Olympic to win the Petone Hilton Tournament Final!. Notable performances were mentioned by Steve Romijn at the after match speach with Doyle, Lance and Richard playing key roles in the 2-0 victory. Two good goals were scored with one from Scotty and the other from Mike Raemakers, both in the 2nd half. An outstanding effort alround really, showcasing the commitment, passion and dedication to the team cause, to win a final with class and the words us, we and TEAM resonating from the stands. Even greater effort over adversity when you know that Tawa were without a large number of 1st string players, bringing the likes of Dan Wood and Dan Cody out of the wordwork to help the Tawa cause. Well done Tawa -the pride and passion you guys showed was pleasing to see. As too that guy who blows the horn in support of Tawa AFC showing that support can go beyond yelling and screaming akin to those horns used in Europe and Africa. Keep up the "Tawa AFC Noise of support" that guy I will call the Pied Piper.

Also notable, disappointing and extremely disrespectful was the NO-SHOW BY OLYMPIC??? at the after match presentation. At the very least the coach (Mike Waite) should have been present to congratulate Tawa for the win and Petone for hosting the super event. Very shameful of Olympics 1st team and incredibly disrespectful towards both Tawa and Petone. Disgusting to be honest and the Olympic 1st team and management need to take a long hard look at their actions here. Just smells of bad sportsmanship and a massive lack of respect that goes beyond football. Anyways i'll finish on a positive note and say a huge Well done to Tawa. You guys can hold your heads high. Not just because you won the final, but also because you play in an admirable way and front up on and off the pitch. Enjoy the celebrations and best wishes for the rest of the season.

Hi All,

Unfortnuately I was not a the game on Sunday but I know that emails have been sent to Petone AFC and Tawa AFC apologising for the weekend. My understanding is that there was a lapse in communication and the players were not made aware.

Committee of the club were disappointed to hear this had happened but believe it has all been resolved.

Interesting comment aekara 21.

Mick Waite certainly knew about the post match presentation and the presentations are held every year to my knowledge so why would 2012 be any different? If players were not aware then the blame certainly must lie with Olympic 1st Team management and the players themselves.
It is up to Olympic as a club to resolve this going forward and not blame any "lapse in communication" as a reason for not attending something that is common place as a proceeding following a final. Im still not convinced with the comment that there was a lapse in communication and that players were not made aware but wont drag this out any further. Just make sure it doesn't happen again for the sake of loosing further respect in the Wellington Football Community! Im glad to read that emails have been sent to Petone AFC and Tawa AFC to aplogise here, but as I note above, just make sure as a club, that it doesn't happen again!

Hi Eagle Eye.

I agree mate that this was disappointing but you are starting to sound like a parent here, not sure what else we have to do to make "YOU" happy. emails and phone calls have been made by the coach to both Tawa AFC and Petone FC apologising. Would you like some blood from the club as well. We are wanting to rectify this and from what I have been told from the coach the players were not told, so end of there. I don't think you were in the locker room to hear whether or not the players were told or not.  End of the day the committee and club do not accept this and this is a new committee with a fresher feel and we are doing all we can to change a lot of pre dispositions about Olympic, this is a blip and you can be assured that this will not happen again.

I understand that Tawa deserved the win and I wish them all the best for the season... I am looking forward to playing them again.

Sounds very fair to be honest aekara, and with a new coach maybe he wasn't aware of what was to happen afterwards. From what I saw though of the game Olympic had about 70% possession if I was being kind to Tawa and if it wasn't for that Tawa keeper Lance someone then it would have been all over very early.
Olympic look very good though and I think was just a blip, as there previous results will show in HP. I think they look favourites to win the CL title again this year.
As for Tawa, maybe dark horses this year. Could they push Miramar and Wairarpa.
Sorry if this has all been said earlier but this posting is new to me on here!

It's only a nothing final if you weren't in it. I'm sure if you spoke to all 4 teams involved in the finals yesterday winning it did mean something.

This is a silly comment for somebody that plays BNU reserves in Capital nothing. The importance of any final is surely not an area of expertise. Lets refrain from slagging people off because you don't like a particular club.

Although i agree you can't read much into the tournament, every side does want to win it and any player that is capable of playing a decent level is competitive enough not to want to lose any game.

I'm not a staunch supporter of either club but must admire the supporters from both teams, they both seem to receive excellent support and no doubt both have a good bunch and also a few they would rather not have attend games, but that is life.

Having watched the game, i can't agree that Olympic were that dominant. They were certainly the more dangerous side and had more possession but i though Tawa held them out well. Lance is a excellent goalkeeper and made 2 fantastic saves but that's his job, if Tawa have a strong goalkeeper it's surely not considered lucky but rather a strong part of their game. If Abba bangs in 6 goals you don't say he was the only difference between the sides as it's likely not true.

I think Olympic will do very well this year and go close to winning it, they are a great side with plenty of talent, good pace and a good coach. Tawa, i have admiration for they way they compete for a small club but can't see them higher than 6th. They may however have a big say in who does win it.

Lastly, speaking to a Tawa lad today. He agrees the Olympic no show is a non event and although not ideal i also understand apology received and accepted. There seems to be a good natured rivalry between both sides and it was a very entertaining match Sunday.

But if Brooklyn Reserves v Eastbourne is your thing this winter the so be it.... i'm sure its important to at least the 22 slugging it out in the mud and no others opinion really matters a sh*t.

Lol weak comment, i was trolling, which i stated in that post (nice of you to cut that out of your reply by the way). I know alot of the tawa guys, theyre good dudes. I play where i play by choice despite numerous offers from my own club and abroad to play at a higher level every season. Even.. wait for it, yes Tawa. I know Bill Shug quite well and have done since a kid growing up with his boy, and hold alot of respect for all of them. Footballs about fun, i had to decide what i wanted to focus more on, footy or mma (i chose the latter). But i like kicking a ball with my mates and wouldnt play for anyone else.

and who are you anyway Rooney? To go to as much effort as you did to pretend to know someone and prove a point with an opinion you think is all so important, on the internet, surely you can tell us?

This is starting to get off the topic of Petone Hilton. Best to carry on this Brooklyn Northern 2nd team discussion on the Capital 5 section of the Forum.

Well Done to Tawa and its appreciated that Olympic have contacted Tawa AFC and Petone AFC to apologise. All the best to Tawa in the Central League as its great to see a team with such pride, passion and commitment take it to teams considered as "better"in the Central League. The old adage applies, that a Champion team will always beat a team of Champions. Tawa 1sts are a Champion team and deserving 2-0 winners of the Petone Hilton 2012 Final. This is something embedded in the history books now with Central League 2012 on the horizon.

Over and out from me on the Petone Hilton forum for 2012. Now to look forward to the regular season and all its glory.

Just a note that Mick Waitt formally apologised for Olympic's no-show after the HP final during the speeches after the Olympic v Tawa CL game on Saturday .  Thought it was very classy.
