There was a photographer at the Petone/Seatoun game. Anyone know who that was or where I could find photos?

Try the Petone website in a few days.

Yep, it was me. I haven't processed them yet but shouldn't take too long. I'll post a link to the Flickr album when they're up.

Hi. Love your photos. Would I be able to put some of the ones from last week on the NW social media page?

Sure thing, if you can credit them to Petone FC we have no issues with you using them. You can either take a copy from Flickr or share the album on our FB page.

I'll see what I've got tonight. The wind was catching the lens hood in the first half until it died down then the light became a little difficult.

looks like Petone and Lower Hutt have some good depth this year with them toping the groups in div 1 and having good results in div2

but i do hope the other clubs still have some cards up there sleeves for when the season starts

good sportsmanship and fair playing field is all we ask for

but all we get is talk and goal posts moving

When was the last time a team did the Hilton Petone / Central League double?

2006 - Miramar. Before then? I've gone back to 92 and no doubles there

So probably fair to say tournament very much used as a trial and testing exercise by majority of clubs. I certainly know that in recent times at Upper Hutt, the squads that have played through the HP bear little resemblence to the team that starts the CL

i agree it is trial time but i was looking at depth of players for these clubs in both leagues
i.e. they can field two competitive teams from there available players.
i know the miramars ect will have other top players who have yet to play and that they try new players and combos at the hilton petone and finals time of div one can see major form changes.

While the quality was a bit lacking at times it was actually a good game to watch, a couple of good goals. BNU Keeper was sent off at approx 60 minute mark and BNU still competed for the rest of the game and even scored. As a neutral I thought the 3-3 draw was a fair result. BNU seemed to be more of a team with no standouts whereas Wainui relied on a few players. Ralph in goal, Leon in the middle, but then they had few others who contributed. There was a lad in the middle for Nui hit two shots with his right like rockets, one hit the post the other over the top. Reece I think his name was. All in all a fair result but if they want to get out of Cap 1 they will need some more quality. I suspect BNU are better across the park but as always Nui will battle

IBU 9 nil over Seatoun.
Think Vic Uni 1 nil over Tawa.
Apparently Karori 2 nil over Upper Hutt.

so now its the business end.

it will be interesting to see how it pans out in div1 being the real part of the comp.

Div2 an interesting side show but not quite the same as playing top teams without a B unless you have a B like the two finalists.

Congratulations to Olympic for winning the Div 1 final 3 nil over Stop Out. I often can't stand watching games with teams I have no association to but this was an exception. It was a fast paced game and Olympic looked strong from the start. Stop Out pushed hard and looked better than I expected but, from where I was standing, were often left chasing shadows especially as the game wore on. Both teams played it in pretty good spirits.

As I am usually one of the first to bag a ref for having a bad game I should be one of the first to sing their praises when they do a good job. I thought Peter Linney and his assistants had a very good game overall. Peter allowed the game to flow and didn't focus on the little niggly fouls in the opening stages.

Good luck to both teams this season. Hoping to have the photos done tonight before the Div 2 final kicks off.

sounds like it was a better game than the one at the CAKE TIN…..

good to see the dark horse back into some preseason form and i hope it transfers down the grades as i always liked playing Olympic teams when they where full of confidence as it made for a much cleaner game.

lets hope the B final is as well managed as your description of last nights game.

i Stil am baffled why the B final is after the A final ????   bit like playing FA cup before the League cup final

I wasn't involved with the scheduling but from my view the Div 1 games have been preferred for Sunday kick off. I guess the logic is a larger potential crowd, the preference of playing the marquee game during daylight, and the ability to make an event of it.

The 11:45am kick off probably put a few people off, it definitely interfered with my plan of watching our women's team at the Stop Out tournament.

The finals were originally scheduled for the B game at 1pm and the A final at 3pm. Due to the Nix game being brought forward to 3pm we could only play the one game.

Congratulations to Lower Hutt City B for taking out the Div 2 Final last night with a 3-2 win over Petone B.

It was another fast paced game with Lower Hutt shining early. Going 2 goals up it looked like the game might be over for Petone. Credit to them as they finished regulation time the stronger of the sides. Petone fought back to 2 all forcing extra time. Lower Hutt came out firing in the first spell of ET netting the only additional goal of the match. Petone again fought back but couldn't get the ball in the goal. In a frantic goal mouth scramble Petone had a shot inadvertently blocked on the line by one of their own then hit the post and forced a couple of solid saves from the LH keeper.

That ends the Hilton Petone Cup for another year. Thanks to all who helped put this tournament on, everyone who participated, the match officials, the supporters, Piney and Radio Sport for airing the results each week and, of course, a big thanks to Caltex Railway Avenue for their continued sponsorship of the tournament.
