Heard a rumour there is talk again about changing the league formats for 2010???

I believe we are better off scrapping the central league and going back to a similar league system we had 2002 - 2005 of a wellington premier league with the reserve league running side by side. then a capital 1 league again with the other clubs first teams.
pn marist, taranaki and napier are not making the top half so we should look after the wellington teams first, havelock and gisborne already have pulled the pin previously!!would also save$$
reserve grade is good to develop youth and would probably get more supporters to games and in the clubrooms afterwards with 2 games being based at the one field!!
could look like this
premier and reserve leagues
1. wests
2. miramar
3 olympic
4 lower hutt
5 petone
6 wairarapa
7 wellington utd
8 tawa
9 wharfies
10 island bay
capital 1
1 stop out
2 upper hutt
3 kapiti
4 naenae
5 marist
6 north wgtn
7 brooklyn
8 wainui
9 stokes valley
10 university
or something along these lines???depending on final placings!!

Surely a better idea would be leave Central league as is
And have Reserve league containing 7 welly based teams and then the best from the 2nd divisions seconds. Say karori/olympic/wests/lower hutt etc
Fairly simple solution to keep the central league being just that, and even up the droppng debacle. But maybe it's just too simple a solution

here, here, it'd be a shame for all of them.
although cheaper, central soccer development would suffer
,

, there's nothing else for them.
good idea though johnny. maybe instead- champs premier and prem reserves?
whilst retaining central league

lol so basically boot all the small clubs who don't have two teams in the higher grades and make them play with all the other small clubs? thats what it looks like to me

To be fair NCR would be disapointed because there local league would give them nothing and even though they haven't pushed other teams that much this season there youth are growing whilst playing for there 1st team in this grade against some quality players

The problem with that old reserve league was that nobody gave a toss who won it. You need to have promotion, relegation to keep things interesting. Nothing wrong with what we have now, why change.

The SInus is correct
nevertheless i liked the fed prem model (prob cause we were in it).

I agree with you pizda, and 2ndBest.
Would be a real shame to lose Napier, Palmy and the Naki out of the competition. It would weaken it too. The NZFC players that play at Napier and Palmy in particular would be replaced with players of a much lesser calibre playing here in Wellington, no disrespect intended.
The Central League is probably the strongest winter competition in the country at the moment. Would be a shame to lose it.
In saying that, I can see the financial argument.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Why not have a System like this.
10 team Wellington Premier League (doesnt matter whos in it at this stage)
One round Played then the top 4/5 teams from Wellington play off (one round) against the top 4/5 teams from the Central East and West regions combined so yet again you have another 8 or 10 team league and are including the Central region teams. Then have a Semi and a Final. Total games would be 18 or 20 if you were the lucky team to make it to the final. The left over teams from premier would go down into Capital one for some sort of play off system you would split capital 1 and have two divisions have the top 4 from each grade go through and have a quater final semi and final.
Dont know if this is a silly idea or what? Kind of similar to the Hardham cup/Jubilee cup system in a way
Must admit i would have to see NCR get left in the dark if Central league was scraped.

Wasn't the heart of the argument that the old Capital One (that sat below the Premier Reserve grade) was actually a stronger competition than Prem Reserve. A number of Prem Reserve teams/clubs wanted to be in that league rather than the no-releagation no-promotion Reserve League.
Also with the move to Central League I think both PN Marist and Taranaki indicated that they wouldn't be able to fund a travelling reserve team. If I recall correctly.
Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

Initially I read this and thought "f*ck off..." but to be honest there's no reason why something a bit more radical (in football terms) like this couldn't work AND make the season more exciting.
The "Super 6" idea implemented in junior football in Wellington has worked to make the season longer and more interesting and something like that could work at senior level too.
However I suspect most football fundamentalists (read: them what will make the decision because they sit on club committees) will block anything this new age.

this system would still have a promotion religation system as well so the cap prem sides would still have a chance. the question is how do you quialify for that top six? smithys coments about the junior/college football are correct but their main falut is that the grades are somewhat decided on the previous years placing.
Who knows if we want to throw it out there hliton petone could be more than just pre season?
