At least they pick the best players - Footballsouth don't pick the best coach then despite some of the best players being unavailable still manage to leave out 2 of their stars

They left out two and the inaction of the board meant they missed out on a third

Did you see that the other squads have named 24 players and Footballsouth only 20. What's going on there?

Who knows, maybe the coaching staff only want 20 at trainings, or perhaps Footballsouth only have  tracksuits?

Credit where credit is due at least Footbalsouth have a team.

Must be pretty disappointing for the US1 and Central girls not to have the chance to play

Missed the bloody Phoenix's best performance of the season because we were driving up for to Chch for the mainalnd v Footballsouth game. I am the jinx!

Mainland were too good on the day. Sara Clapham was a class act  and it was the best Mainland side I have seen in 5 years.

Footballsouth were under prepared and inexperienced.
Not helped by players playing out of position, a striker playing centre-back and a sweeper at right back (to be replaced by a winger).

On a positive note Georgia Brown was outstanding and Elise Mamanu-Gray played very well
I think there would have been around 10 girls make there National league debuts, all of whom will will have learnt a lot and will improve as they have more game time.
The coaches should also have learnt  alot and will hopefully see the light and get on the phone to Amber Mulhall-Larsen and Bri Barclay.... eveyone else has named squads of 24 surely its not to late!
I still believe the talent is there, in patches we looked great.

I see Capital Football have Aroon Clansey in their squad. I thought Aroon was based in Auckland. Is that the case?

<ten mins later>

Ok, she is. (Just been told). So Capital Football are flying her down for home games? What's that about? I was naive enough to think this league was about promoting the best players in each region...
So what are players striving for if it's simply going to be Auckland versus Auckland B (under another name)???

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Each federation can have up to two guest players in their squad, although not all the federations have taken advantage of this.

Capital have recruited Aroon Clansey and Sarah Gregorius.

I think its a good idea and could even be extended. The more better players the better. Some of the weaker teams could be strengthened and give their best players a better chance at being picked for national sides. Apparantly a fewof former Footballsouth players were keen to come down and play but weren't wanted.

Ive heard that john herdman the national coach told the Nz girls not to play?????    I thought the idea was to improve the sport and let younger up incoming players see the best on the field????   The auckland team is missing alot?????  I think if you look at  his squad you will be lucky to name 3 or 4 playing??

Not that I particularly care, but I gather the idea was to let some of the Auckland-based players play outside of Auckland to strengthen the rest of the league.

Clansey and Gregorious are Wellingtonians so I guess it makes some sense.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

I'm aware of a few injury issues at present, and the little matter of an international in Tokyo against Japan on 14 November - clearly that's not a match we want to go into in an under-strength state.

Agreed. Thought our forwards were disappointing, Renee needs to play up front. The little winger that scored both goals (Sarah Gregorius?) looked a good player, hopefully her injury's not too bad.

Fitness seemed a bit of an issue, particularly in the second half.

Hiya, isn't womens nz game that's in Asia when there is a bye anyway???? So shouldn't really make a difference? I see akld has added a few now. Surely any games are good games for them to be playing prior to a international?

watched a poor Footballsouth side handed a lesson today. Coaches didn't change the formation when 2-0 as it wasn't working and capital even changed the goalie to give the reserve game time. It ended up 6-0. neither of the capital goalies had a shot to save all game. The only time they were busy was to come off their line to sweep. Cracking banner behind the home team dug out stating Amber and Brie not good enough for Otago - Yeah Right. wonder if the coaches got the message!

Any idea on who got the goals for Capital?

Goal scorers were Renee Leota (x2), Melissa Bartlett, Kelly Stembridge, Hannah Wall and Terri-Amber Carlson.

Number 1? How's that gonna work? Are they gonna kick people out of the ground after the game so they can come back in and pay for TWs, or are they charging for both games?

In my opinion Football south played a really good Capital side and got pounded. The reason is because there actually doing a 3 year plan thats why theres so much young girls and by the way the coach is my Dad and hes got the best coaching record in all of Football south and was nearly the first coach to win an age-group tournament in napier and only missed out on winning by a late equaliser by United soccer 1(not too sure about what team though). So Guys do you really think hes not the right man for the job.tomrewi2009-11-21 19:28:53

3-0 to Wgtn (Leota 3). Second half was a bit dull. Wgtn's brains trust need to get a lot more clued up on their team selection.

AUCKLAND Football Ferns Renee Leota and Kirsty Yallop fired Capital Football and Auckland Football into the semi-finals of the Lion Foundation Womens League with hat tricks in respective wins over FootballSouth and Waikato-BOP on Sunday.

Yallop helped herself to a four goal haul for the second time this season and to the top of the golden boot standings as defending champions Auckland cemented their lead of the Northern Conference with a 5-0 win over Waikato at Riverhills.

Melissa Ray grabbed Aucklands first from a fourth minute Yallop corner, but it was Yallops match thereafter, capitalising on a defensive error to double the lead in the 20th minute and converting a 30 yard free kick on the half hour mark for a 3-0 halftime lead.

The Ferns midfielder completed her hat trick with a long range thunderbolt 10 minutes into the second half and finished the rout with a close range tap in as time ran down.

In Wellington, Football Ferns striker Renee Leota made sure Capital stayed atop the Southern Conference standings and all-but guaranteed a home semi-final with a first-half hat trick in a 3-0 win over FootballSouth at Newtown Park.

A cheeky chip and chase over her marker set Leota up for a well taken third-minute opener, while good work from Terri-Amber Carlson and Emily McColl set up Leotas second.

Leota then earned, and converted, a 35th minute penalty for a seemingly comfortable halftime lead although a resurgent FootballSouth outfit twice rattled the woodwork as they threatened to fight their way back into the fixture in the second half.

The reason they didnt select Amber and Bri is because one didnt show up to trials or practise and the other is just plain rubbish. Also they didnt select 24 players cause the rulebook Football South got said only 20 players. So well done Yeovil

Footballsouth must have a different rule book to Mainland and Captial who named squads of 24 (no surprises there). Capital even managed to add Emily McColl to thier squad http://74.125.155.132/search?q=cache:CX6D3NgeWhkJ:www.soccer.org.nz/index.php%3Fpage%3DNWL+Emily+McColl+%2B+as+yet+unconfirmed+player.&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=nz

Looks to me like Footballsouth gets the shaft again

Player ability is always a matter of opinion, and forwhat its worth here's mine
Amber is currently the best defender in the Footballsouth region, she is quick, stong, skillfull, has a great right foot and is brilliant in the air and Brie is simply the best natural goalscorer I have ever seen.

But thats just my opinion here a few facts

Amber - Footballsouth Womens Footballer of the Year 2009
Brie - A hatrick (left foot, right foot, header) in the Southern League decider. In the Uncle Toby Cup Brie scored 2 goals against Western and was unlucky to have a third disallowed, 10 Western players are in the Mainland squad. Brie was also the 2008 Footballsouth Young Footballer of the Year.

Can't say I agree that either of these two player are rubbish, but thats just my opinion

Nice to see that Yeovil doesn't have 'rose tinted glasses' and deals in facts. I'm afraid the current management left out 2 of the best players in the region shows how little appreciation of the game they have - FACT
