Great all round team performance from selwyn today. Notice will gerdsen there today. Guess he was looking at his Canterbury boys. May have noticed  the goal scorers today. Could not help but have a laugh at the ironic comment when dan ede completed his hat trick. "Don't forget to pick up your cheque" just like to make it clear he turned down big money from chch.

Bit rich coming from Russia united isn't it, considering cash they are throwing around. Something ain't right considering 8 points back and all the money put in! Bench warmer could tell more about today's game, as I do feel Halswell could spoil selwyns party, on a good run as late and still play them twice. Waimak on day can also cause a headache or two

Coastal had more than enough chances, to claim the three points, but failed to take them. Suburbs made the most of some average defending, or lack of for their 1st and 3rd goal and do not think anyone would say it was not a penalty.

Here is Nelson Mail take on the game.

http://www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/sport/93796458/...

In other games.

FC did enough to gain at least a share of the points against Tech without reward with after Tech scored in the opening minutes.

Western hit the woodwork in the opening minute with Bays then scoring four goals in the next thirty minutes, with Western pulling a goal back just after the break.

Nomads scored either side of the break to pick up the win which more than likely has secured their MPL staus for 2018.

I'd say Halswell definitely seem to have improved a bit and was the best they've been against us this season. They have the pace up the top which could cause any team danger.

How they stack against Selwyn or Chch Utd, unfortunately I can't comment where they are currently at as I missed the Selwyn game due to illness and was away for the Utd game.

From what I've heard Selwyn were very good and recent results seem to indicate that they've cut out the knack of conceding too many which always seemed to be their downfall. It will be a shock to see them miss out on the top spot now.

Pretty much the title race is over for everyone but Bays and Cashmere sadly. What was looking like the closest title race in years and the most even league is proving to be a bit deceptive. Still some good clashes to come but.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

Sure. 10, maybe 11 points off the top with one round to go appears to be too much to claw back considering how we are playing at the moment.

a) are you happy now?

b) should I stop supporting my team now?

c) my bullet points are better than yours.

With the MPL now 2/3rds completed table below shows the points gained for each team for Rounds 1 - 7, Rounds 8 - 14, and the overall total as well as the %.

Table has been adjusted for both Bays and Suburbs who still have their catch-up game from Round 13 to play.

(Unsure why some of the cells are different colours, happened when pasting from excel)

Club Rounds 1 - 7 % Points Gained Rounds 8 - 14 % Points Gained Total % Points Gained
Cashmere Technical 15 71.4% 19 90.5% 34 81.0%
Ferrymead Bays 18 85.7% 14 77.8% 32 82.1%
Nelson Suburbs 11 52.4% 13 72.2% 24 61.5%
Coastal Spirit 16 76.2% 8 38.1% 24 57.1%
Nomads 8 38.1% 6 28.6% 14 33.3%
FC Twenty11 4 19.0% 10 47.6% 14 33.3%

I watched Uni v Nomads for the second time this year and both times Uni should've been at least 2 up before half time.

Saturday game saw some poor finishing from Uni that put high flying DJI drones in more danger than the score sheet.

Two clear first half chances that should be getting put away and both on target got well saved.

Uni need to turn the amount of ball they had and strikes they get into goals if they want to stay up.

Nomads problem for this year has been lack of scoring goals without Hoyle in the squad.

Be a plus if Nomads can gain more points in the last third of the season than the first.

Maybe get the ten point gap to Coastal closed out and move into 4th working on the same thoughts as ZCoastal fans on winning the league from ten points back. N.A.S.S. for either.

Cashmere Tech are the only team in the league Nomads can't beat. Nelson we should've won that first game and the same with the first Coastal game less the two clear offside goals CS got.

As others have mentioned on here plus several players the officiating is a poor standard in the MPL to other leagues in the country.

IMO the officiating overall the games I've watched this year is the worst we have had since the MPL started.

I  think the so called refs coaching they are getting is not as good as used to be either, takes me back to officiating in the old Southern League days. I couldn't give a toss if a ref can't run 10 or 30 second 100 metres just get in the correct position to get the big calls correct and keep your cards in your pocket talk to the players as if you know what your doing with a whistle.

I'd say the refs are too busy listening to the running commentary from the Ars to watch the game themselves. It is a total joke the crap they give over the intercom, this is what you hear game after game "he's playing it long no going short balls in play" can't the ref see for himself and if not what is he watching?

I heard a good one at English Park a couple of weeks ago from a ref after a foul at the top and outside the Penalty Box

Team A player "thats a penalty"

Ref reply to A- "I didn't see anything" Didn't need to see the contact we could all hear it including those in the stand

What was the ref looking at near the penalty area? Only one thing you are looking at and it's not the watch or score board.

LineO that is further away and not inline to the contact gives a penalty.

Team B player "How's is that a penalty when contact is clear outside the box"

Ref-"I saw the contact it was in the box" You what saw it with what your back?

What a absolute joke these sort of calls with these type of comments make of the game and everything Mainland Football think they are out to improve.

Deservedly so to Foal - when the next best teams only win 50% of their games it doesn't give any justification to their claims for promotion. Money can't buy you love - or promotion either it would seem!! Congrats Selwyn.

Always the chance of a clanger for any team playing Burwood at Clare Park but game got played at English Park....

ChCh United's got the rub of the plastic green again with another one of their away games that would have been played on an average pitch shifted onto artificial surface. One or two have badly misjudged Juan Chang's ability, which won't be helped once van Gool heads back home.

Selwyn always good for a slip. That league is not over. Padmore will manage to mess it up somehow even with that squad!

Halswell must feel sour considering where they have come from.

Christchurch United were never going to win that league.

Selwyn would have to loose 4 for their last 8 games, with ChCh United having to win all their fixtures for United to win promotion and on current form hard to see either happening, with Selwyn looking to have the easier run in of the top four and if Selwyn do get a case of the speed wobbles are streets ahead in the goal difference stakes.

Selwyn have to face both United and Halswell once, with Waimak, Parklands and Burwood twice each.

Chch United had probably 60% of the possession and chances. But unfortunately they had Juan Goal (NOT) who struggled against a determined Burwood team. Burwood could have pinched it if they'd taken their one easy opportunity. But that's footy.

Sounds like it was an epic Chatty Cup game between Suburbs and Coastal with the Suburbs keeper Cory Wilson, pulling off a brillant save to deny Gulliermo Schumacher late in the game, with Willson also tipping several other chances over the bar.

Sean Liddicoat replaced at half time, possible concusion.

So Cashmere Tech, Suburbs also with Queenstown Rovers (3 - 2 over Dunedin Tech) and Caversham (2 - 1 over Green Island) into the hat for the next round on 15 / 16 July weekend.
