Bays v Nelson catch-up is now 20th August

I hear a few MPL players may be missing in action over the weekend, instead heading up to Auckland to watch the darts, hopefully they will get a lesson in 'how to finish'.

With the results today the title race opens up again between Technical and Bays, as well and the batlle for third and fourth place between Coastal and Suburbs .

Universities were the better side and created more of the scoring chances, two shot hit the post and deserved the win with a few heart stopping moments after the went ahead after 75 minutes with Western having a couple of chances to level.

Universities final two games away to Bays on Friday night and then at home to Nomads with Western having two home games against Technical and Bays so Western face a big challenge to avoid the drop.

Haris Zeb. Best to correct it now before the papers get it wrong too! If you are famous you may as well be famous with your name spelled right.

You'd have to think 1 win is enough for Uni

The most likely scenario is both clubs lose both games and a team stays up on 9 points

Which says more about the MPL than bears thinking about

Good to see Selwyn rounding the season off in style by having Club Captain and first teamers at junior and youth games again this morning.

Padmore and Brown joining in the fun netted a goal each for the reserves in a 4-1 win against Nomads. They then debut an upcoming 16 year old in their CCL starting lineup comfortably disposing of Waimak 5-1. Shame the lad and 6 others they played were too young to join the aftermatch.

Padmore up north next week to finish his A-licence.  How many current MPL coaches haven't yet managed to complete their Senior Level 2?

Isn't Lee employed by the club though in a full time capacity? Would this not allow him to complete levels easier than those MPL coaches that are in full time employment away from the club?

This isn't me trying to attack your post Stallion, merely highlighting the difference in clubs across the city.

Also isn't it a requirement in the MPL for coaches to be Senior Level 2? I certainly thought it used to be

Apart from being in the wrong thread did Mainland have written permission from the boy's parents for him to play? #lossofpoints

Not the wrong thread as Selwyn are now MPL.

The player making his debut today was 16 in February.

Padmore is completing his A licence.

Maybe more clubs should follow suit and have full time coaches that are as highly qualified, potentially take the game further?

Plently of action coming up over the next seven days:

Suburbs vs Bays at Saxton Fields at 1pm today with the field still heavy after plenty of rain in Nelson during the week

Then next weekend,  the catch-up game from Round 13 Bays vs. Suburbs being played so the we see two games on Friday evening:

Bays vs Universites - Christchurch Football Centre at 7pm

Nomads vs Suburbs - English Park 8pm

then on Saturday at 2:45pm

Coastal vs FC Twenty11 - Cuthberts Green

Western vs Cashmere Technical - English Park

and on Sunday

Bays vs Suburbs - English Park at Midday

No doubt a few twist and turns over the six games.

Well done to Coastal. All the Bays boys were right behind you yesterday. Was fun. A tactical triumph. Also be nice for yet another Bays Coastal final for the English cup, cause Bays always win them.4 in the last 7 finals Bays vs Coastal with a Bays win?.

We will be certainly seeing Selwyn getting pretty loud on here in the coming months. Good on them. I'm never one to stamp on fans and members getting rowdy and supporting their team. We have missed a bit if that this season. Very P.C

A few Bays players down at Ilam Fields yesterday, some cheering on Western and the other rooting for Universities.

If you're referring to my previous post then you will see there are clearly a couple of question marks in the post and so asking the question.

If the question is wrong then rather than attack the post it would help to correct the post so that mis understanding is cleared.

Lee and the team at Selwyn are doing a great job which has been a few years in the development. A lot of other clubs could definitely take a leaf out of their books, but as I did highlight having MPL coaches with full time work elsewhere will restrict them taking further and higher coaching badges

Probably referring to Ronaldoknow's post re wrong thread and a 16 year old needing Mainland clearance to play senior football BW.

Once again a point is missed and a keyboard warrior is on hand to justify ignoring a technicality :)

As someone who supports a club that has been on the receiving end of technicalities I was merely asking the question. Not sure if the rule applies still but once upon a time in the very near past clubs lost points for playing 16 year olds who's parents had not given written permission to Mainland for their children to play senior football, what's so wrong with that?

I thought 16 year olds could and it was 15 and below that needed dispensation?

Wow interesting stuff. I'm keen for it to go ahead but it does make it interesting for the flow on logistics.

Top 5 in CHCH after two rounds were: Tech, Bays, Coastal, Nelson and FC2011 which would have left Nomads Western and Uni to play off in a one round CCL. I'm guessing that all points would revert to 0 for everyone in the CCL, therefore 1 round to get the most points to then get in the MPL the following year? Pretty sure the CCL clubs wanted an extra round so it wasn't so unfair.

I understand that the bigger picture is improving football in the South Island but you also have to look at the greater number of players and how this change will effect Chch football as a whole.
