So Cashmere Technical and Coastal Spirit join Dunedin Technical (who defeated Pleasant Point 11 - 1) and Otago University (defeated Northern Hearts 4 - 0) in the next round to be played in two weeks time (no MPL games that weekend) with the draw likely to be done by NZ Football tomorrow (if not tomorrow will be Tuesday).

Richmond had a player sent off in the 2nd half for 2 yellows, still a good effort form them. Luis were you there? Vim won't be in any state to provide a match report for a few days ....

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

Back to full health after a fantastic trip North and South with the team.  There is a good write up on the Nelson Mail here which pretty much sums it up here.

My thoughts were that it was a classic cup match, where underdogs pull out all the stops to win.  Richmond had a really young team (and I'd like to think we have one too) and defended well for most of the match. We had heaps of the ball in the first half and the keeper made some great saves. They scored early in the second half and we had to step it up. We were still down 1-0 when their player got sent off, for a second yellow, and then it really changed with the advantage. Lotsa attacking after that and we managed to get two in and take the game.

Ride home was a bit different to the ride up let's just say that.

Here's hoping for a whole pile of underdog action in the next round too!

Directive coming out from Mainland regarding drinking on the sidelines.  Now deemed not acceptable.

I look forward to the beer tent at English Park during Canterbury United matches selling coke and lemonade only.

Way to ruin my Saturdays.

Strange how the Nelson Mail's report said the scoreline was 3 - 1.

Canterbury Cricket very hot on this as well and have been for probably a couple of seasons now. Directive to clubs to not allow it...

What is the law, and who is going to enforce it? Can you not drink in a public park? Plenty of wine imbibed at Botanic gardens picnics etc.

Ouch, that's twice now.

For Mainland to say its unacceptable to have booze on the sideline is , I guess, their right to have their opinion at matches they run, but for them to sell and serve it at Canty Utd is a double standard. Sure they can say they have a license, but it's not very well policed considering no one is checking drunkeness of purchasers etc. It's run by clubs who volunteer and I've even been served by a kid!

If there was a justified complaint due to alcohol then maybe, but has that happened?

And as Global Game said earlier, who's job is it to tell people not to drink in a public park when it's not illegal? The volunteers at the club? Or at Mainland? Good luck with that.

Rumour going round of Bexley Reserve being used for the Chatham Cup match between Coastal and Tech. If they thought Clare Park was a step down then a game at Bexley would be like taking an escalator to the centre of the earth.

Is this mainland policy common sense or PCness taken just a bit too far? Has there been an alcohol fuelled unsavory incident recently? I hope mainland don't see themselves as wanting to control active supporter base of clubs.

Christchurch City Council by laws prohibit alcohol 24/7 in public areas some of which have football parks.

Hagley Park, Riccarton area including the varsity pitches, St Martins to Barrington and a couple of Intermediate pitch only parks, just in case your 12 year old wants a can of beer after his or her game.

Mainland could find it hard to take action for a breach of [Mainland new rule if they are putting one in] the rules in a park outside of these areas.

They could try and fine a club and or issue a team notice re loss of points. Would it stand up in court if they have the rules in place.

There is no legal age to sell alcohol. Only to purchase. But yeah I see your point and having seen one or 2 pissed people at CU games on occasion....yeah.

its an interesting call from them, possibly just covering their asses

Considering how young that Richmond side is.. a lot of those boys are still at high school, and probably Year 11, 12, 13, I thought they played extremely well. Was that Coastal's strongest squad? They deserved the win, but certainly didn't look a whole lot better than Richmond in the second half.
