So women's prem season kick off is 3rd may, 4 weeks after women's PDL 5 April. Surely that's going to mean 1st team players use PDL for match practice for a month? Clubs agreed to this?

From Colin Grant - issues re Masters and no-one wanting to play in the top division...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi all Men and Women Delegates
Since publishing the Senior draws there has been some changesWPL Halswell United removed
WPDL Halswell United entered, Coastal Spirit B removed.
Masters 1, FC TEWNTY KNVB now master 2, now 5 teams with a bye
Masters 2, CTFC Cavaliers now Masters 3, FC TWENTY RSA now Masters 3, Waimak Wonderers from 3 (originally placed in wrong section)
Masters 2 is back to the original plan, with Amberley relegated (Masters 1) Halswell, FC TWENTY 11 x 2, Waimak x 2, Universities and Mid Canterbury (promoted)
Masters 3, now has 11 teams and a bye.
Moving forward, there has to be a serious review of the Masters Leagues, once again no one wants to play Masters Div 1, teams want to move down, even within Masters 45.
The preferred stay in your leagues and promotion relegation decides final make up is not working.
Mid season I will call an all up meeting regarding masters with club representatives to map out 2015.
Still to finalise Mens PDL, one more team to add.
Is it a case of 'We would rather stay where we are cause we can't hack losing'?
Grumpy old bastard alert
Crazy especially as the team that won Masters 2 last year were told they had to move up to Masters 1 even though they didn't want to...yet other teams can do what they like..

But most will be involved in NZ KO Cup games two week prior before the Premier League kicks off.

Good to see the hawks got at least a Women's PDL team back; though it appears coastal have lost one of theirs.

I don't know , played against some of them the other week (Coastal WPL friendly )
E's Flat Ah's Flat Too
That's an unbelievable result for Uni first up.. From all reports played Nelson off the park and could have had a few more, clear penalty waved away after 5mins with Nelson awarded a dubious one late on. Whoever said Uni would be favourites for the drop must be wishing they never did :). Another tough test against Bays next week, but confidence aplenty im sure
I didn't, poor finishing cost Nelson all game.
Nelson a shambles in midfield

Fairly sure for most teams it's an age factor. We play Masters Div 2 (finished mid-table last year) but despite it being an over 35s grade i think at last count we had 8 guys in their 50s. Bit too tough for them to play guys in their mid-late 30s every week and get the same level of enjoyment. Div 2 last year was actually quite good, 8 teams, no easy beats, just decent competitive games each week which is all anyone really wants at the end of the day.
I'm a tad younger than some so personally i wouldn't mind if we took all three Masters divisions (22 teams) and combined them into two leagues. Sure some games would be tougher than we're used too but i'd rather have a 20/22 game league rather than the 14 game league plus 4 cup games at the end. Don't think the current format gives me particularly good bang for my buck ($240 fees for a season)
If most of your guys are 35-42 and reasonable then you'd definitely be better off in Div 2. The Papanui and FC sides are ok, Western maybe not too bad but the rest probably there to make up numbers. I've never actually seen any of the teams from Div 1 (other than Ferrymead who were promoted from our league) so can't comment on how big a step up to to Div 1 it actually is. Ferrymead were consistent but not much better than the top 4 or 5 sides in our league. The more i think about it, the more a 2 division set up (10 teams in Div 1, 12 teams in Div 2) seems to make sense for so many reasons

I was one of those that have stated University to go back down and stick by it.
Did you see Nelson get played off the park?

Nelson a shambles in midfield and in defense they will improve Varsity won't that will be the highlight of the season for them.
Justice is served.

MF= Square peg in round hole!
This out from Mainland today:
Hi all Men club delegates
Can you ask all of your Masters 1, 2 and 3 teams their thoughts.
I have been asked that due to Masters 1 only having 5 teams (4 byes and playing 4 teams 4 times) that we split up the 24 masters teams to 2 leagues of 12 play 1 round and split into 4 x 6 leagues.
Can you ask to come back ASAP meaning tomorrow.

Sorry, why do you think that Varsity won't improve? It's a young team looking to learn, have had very minimal pre-season compared to the rest of the clubs (as they do every year due to picking up players after uni has started back up) and have one of the best young coaches the Canterbury has. They have come up from an undefeated season in which they conceded 3 goals, all scored by a player who has now joined them. Is that not better than any other team that has come up in recent times?
Just not sure what your reasoning is?
That sounds like someone is thinking about the best way to get rid of the byes and ensure everyone gets to play roughly in the grade they want to.
Good idea. No one said the traditional formats of home and away had to be stuck with.

So why do they need to ask the clubs...they don't usually..just tell them!

Masters Div 1, clubs were canvassed as to combine Masters 1, 2 and 3 or not. The teams that replied (17) 6 said yes four of those were Div 1 teams, 8 said no and 3 would go with the majority. Therefore the status quo remains.
As mentioned before there is a wider picture to look at regarding Masters, Masters Div 1 is a part of that but it wont be solved this season.

So 5 teams in div 1, one team plays 4 teams three times per season, it's a joke! Not worth the subs..
This is the ONE time they should not have consulted....Guess they can't win either way.
