Coastal Spirit away to Cavy. C'mon boys, big upset on the cards!

Tough draw for Coastal. Think Cavy are more than beatable and thats coming from not having played them but more from knowing most of their players but I have to say I think you guys had your work cut out as it is but add to that going down their and I think its Cavy's to lose. Obviously I hope you prove me wrong.

Found the article, here
more money in the bank for Coa$tal obviously. One of 2 affected clubs (the other being Bays). Why don't we just split it down the middle, $57,500 each? Ronaldoknow2011-06-21 20:47:55

A few other clubs effected as well.

Out of interest how has Bays been effected. Do not tell me playing players is a result of the quakes.

Bays membership was apparently decimated but the point you make about paying players is very good. I know Western have suffered at Westminster Park also ChCh Utd with the loss of QE2. Woolston Tech also with no games/training at Garrick park. Who else?Ronaldoknow2011-06-21 21:44:00

Be interesting to see how disbursement is made and what the criteria are. I know Coastal lost a $2.5m gym that returned a good income but other clubs didn't own a lot in the way of facilities e.g. Utd at QE2, so apart from having to find somewhere else to train/play they haven't suffered too much financially. If it goes by tonnes of liquefaction Coastal will win hands down with Cuthberts and Bexley. Can we count the mud on the rugby pitches as well?

It won't be anything like resources lost. It will be offering free coaches courses, deduction on fees to Mainland so it is cheaper for Jo Bloggs to play.

These, and other ideas floated when it does come out, will effectively be money back in the bank for Mainland I am betting.

When at Linfield the other week one of the committee members I was talking to said that the Gym was fully insured so all was sweet - looking at what options for a rebuild.

That information was not entirely accurate. the club will not be able to replace what they had under the insurance, will get something but not to the same scale and it may be 2 - 3 years away. Club is in the same position as residents, waiting on land reports and an intransigent insurance company. In the mean time the club has gone a season with a massive hole in it's budget with no sign of a letup in the near future. Coming from out east poverty is 2nd nature for us.Ronaldoknow2011-06-21 22:34:05

Throw Burwood and Parklands in there too.

Better than nothing for the clubs affected...

Weren't halswell clubrooms damaged too?
According to tech website (https://www.wtfc.co.nz) they look to have lost more than Garrick - and plenty of liqeurfaction there. Not sure who owns the Tech grounds tho - not CCC

Kotahitanga. We are one.

I think Tech is owned by Woolston Working Mens Club. It is right next door.

Halswell clubrooms were damaged but only minor and I believe will be covered by insurance. Main carpark has taken a beating too but owned by the council.

Awesome pics Rolly, what did you think of the game? How are people involved with the club feeling about the season now and their chances of promotion then footing it in the MPL?

Great game! Plenty of goals, which is great for all the spectators. Richmond have looked Mainland quality all season, and I think they still showed it on the weekend, although Coastal were definitely a class above. Richmond really struggled without Jordan Yong and it will be interesting to see what happens without Joe Green. Joe is their leader. None of you guys outside of Nelson will get the Waimea Weekly newspaper, but I reported this week Richmond's capture of former English pro Che Wilson. He is here to build coaching contacts but could potentially play. He's a defender who finished his professional career in his late 20's because of injury. Played 100 League One games with Southend United.
Richmond have it pretty easy though. It's either them or Marlborough who will win the league. If both teams don't drop points, Marlborough can win by beating Richmond in their last two encounters.

I should have introduced myself, you would have been one of the 4 or so photographers behind the eastern end goal at the start of the 2nd half? Pity all the action took place down the other end lol.

I was at the Eastern end, near the clubrooms, for the opening few minutes. So I got a lot of my photos then. I was just focussing on Richmond. Second half was another story though!

No Adam Smith or Simon Gatward-Smith for Nelson Suburbs. Two of their best players. Both suspended.

Will be a big loss but Suburbs will be up for it knowing that a loss is likely to give Bays one hand on the trophy.

Unfortunately I think Bays willbe too good for Suburbs this week. Suburbs defence is really struggling not to leak goals and with Kamo up for 50 a goal, its not looking good. The other games should sort out that log jam in the middle of the table though

Think Bays will be to strong, Tech/Coastal - draw, Western to beat Nomads, Halswell to beat United.

The only thing I can see in my crystal ball is Braithwaite (that is Keith) being sent off after firing up on his final game in charge.

I will be doing my best to send him on his way.

Why on earth would you want to try do you best to get someone sent off before a ball is even kicked.

Not really his final game in charge anyway, only for Tech this season. Will be in charge for Canterbury United later in year and who knows which teams after that.

When checking for any ground changes on the Mainland Website I see that Parklands has defaulted their English Cup Quarter Final game against Western on Sunday. Not a good good look for any club.AllWhites822011-06-24 18:31:18

Oh come on, everyone knows watching any Tech or Canty game with Keith in charge (if not serving lengthy/wet bus ticket ban) is like watching one of the Coro St fight scenes. It's classic comedy. We should be charging admittance fee for the show.VimFuego2011-06-24 21:29:46

Maybe just me but one thing to have a laugh as opposed to trying to and get someone sent off.
