Goal difference tightening up there as well. Match between FC2011 and Coastal on the 16th July looks crucial to both teams chances. Also Coastal have another deferral coming up due to 3 girls in the NZ U17 squad which could see them go 6 points behind with 2 games in hand. Tough at the top. With the last round underway it might not be decided until Coastal complete their catch up games.

Coastal can be very proud of that, definitely not embarrassing the MPL. Anyone know goal scorers and why a player was sent?

hope he didn't get sent off. He's a top bloke and puts a heap of time into junior coaching. A good club man.

Certainly was the evil Mr Bateson. In front of one of his kanga Cup kins and all. Ref apologised after the game for getting it wrong, at worst it was a yellow card if anything. That's footy though.

Was never a red. Ref should have handled it better. Strangely enough Coastal played their best football for the next 20 minutes.

The funniest part of that whole incident was the Coastal fan in the stand who shouted "He has to go, ref!" after seeing the Cavvy player's retaliation (push) after the whack. He was somewhat red-faced when the red card went to the Coastal No. 8.

The free header from the corner? That certainly wasn't from open play. Most of the other opportunities arose from Coastal adopting a 3 2 4 formation once Batesy got sent which opened up the game hugely.
Agree mostly, Coastal were always behind the 8 ball with poor passing contributing to an average 1st half performance but there was a large chunk at the start of the 2nd half where we actually dominated even if it was a different style of footy to Cavy's. Made for a very entertaining game. Quite happy with where we are at from a Coastal point of view, game was a good opportunity to measure ourselves against quality opposition from out of our own area. good crowd to. Sounds like it was a screamer of a game. Things are looking good for the club, first year in the MPL and pushing one of the top teams in the South Island. It would be good to see Turnbull playing regularly, 4 goals in the last 2 cup games.

I think we're all forgetting the fact that cavy won, yes coastal had 10 men, yes they did well but at the end of the day all that matters is the result. I'm a tech man (the woolston kind) so the result does'nt really matter to me but I was hoping that a Christchurch team would finally beat a Dunedin side so we could get that monkey of our back. Alas it was not meant to be and I suppose we will have to settle for national league dominance over our arch rivals in the summer but a winter victory would have been nice. Anyway well done Coastal for doing as well as you did, was hoping to find a write up in the press but could'nt find it anywhere? As for Cavy and Tech (the dunedin kind) if one of youse win the cup thats fine as well, at least it would be someone from the south Island even if you all have two heads and eat your own children down their

Hughesy was leg weary by then, gravity had taken its toll. More of an issue is what's Leithal doing at the post? Shouldn't he be inside it?  Sorry, I forgot about the goal from the corner, but it wasn't a free header - Paul Hughes contested it. So 5 open play goals to 1 - my substantive point remains. Despite that I think overall the scoreline was fair, so I don't agree with Monsef's assertion that 'Caversham are the luckiest team in the world'. It was by far the best contest I have watched this season - Patrick Fleming's goal was superb, a rasping drive from 25m hit with top spin to beat the tall Thomas and still get under the bar with plenty to spare. But Coastal showed plenty of bottle - probably why Stanton's signed?

That's Robert Stanton who transferred over to Coastal just before the June deadline to strengthen our Over 45's side. His son Pop has been with us all season but missed the game through injury. Daniel Moir was also out through injury and Gary McDermott left for Wellington 3 weeks ago, now playing for Miramar again, so it was a bit of a depleted side that went to Dunners hence only 3 on the bench. Also why Ben Lennon went in goal late in the 2nd half with Matt Thomas going outfield wide on the left. Hughesy didn't really contest the corner just made it look like he did as he was buggered. I understand Korouch didn't actually use those words, may have been taken out of context or poetic licence used? And the description of Flemings goal as a rasping drive rivals my statement about the corner being uncontested (Matt Thomas could hardly be described as tall!), still a great goal though and one he should be very proud of. Yes all in all a fair result and one of the best games I've watched in a long time as well, very good advert for footy. Enjoyed that as much as the All Whites v Bahrain in Wellywood.

Yes, to be fair it doesn't sound like the sort of thing he would say - whenever I have heard his analysis of a game, he has always looked to take something positive out of it. And Matt Thomas is taller than Cavvy's keeper...
