My mistake with the pen count was 5 - 4, must have been the fog that was hanging around, so the cup holders, Halswell gone - Waimak face Western in the cup on Thursday.   .

Draw is out already for the next round in the English Cup. Coastal play Western on the 16th of August and Bays play either Nomads or Tech a week later.

I know we've all been watching Coro but has anyone heard the result with Bays vs FC2011.  Surely a Bays win?  Wouldn't mind a draw tho...

Ena Sharples turned in her grave.

Barlow shagged ex wife Deidre's long lost brothers love child.

Oh wait, that was 30 years ago.

Oh wait, that was Thursday night as well.

Oh wait .................... yawn.

ChCh Utd 0 Coastal 2

Average first half but Coastal far superior in the 2nd 45 scoring 2 excellent goals to Faichnie and Camel - sorry G but the ball was over the line - and taking all 3 points emphatically. Good to see some of the younger Coastal lads stepping up and performing well. Welbourrne back next week should see the boys kick on from here.

Farce in the womens MPL with no referee turning up for the Western v Coastal game.

Huge upset also as Varsities hand the league to Coastal on a plate with a great 1-0 win over Cashmere. Well done Varsities.

Yer, hopefully they don't take it out on Coastal tomorrow.

Was anyone at the game? Was Tech playing their strongest side?

Lotsa comments on here and in Mainland website news that Nomads are about to get promoted. Don't they have a Nelson playoff before then?

I hear no team in the Nelson Bays Div 1 wish to go into the the play-off series if they finish on top of the league.

Canterbury United has appointed Danny Halligan as the 2012 Canterbury United Youth Head Coach.

Halligan brings a wealth of experience as a former All White during the 1980s and 90’s and is a passionate Canterbury football identity. He previously coached Canterbury United during its first 5 years, in a player/coach capacity and more recently was the U16/17 coach during the last two years of the former Canterbury School of Football.

Halligan is looking forward to working with the talented group of youth players that Mainland Football has developed. “The Youth team has been very successful the last few years and I’ll be working to continue that trend.” Halligan’s first focus will be on identifying players for the National Youth League Squad working alongside the Club’s Football Development Manager, Martin Stewart.

Stewart was pleased with the number and quality of the applicants saying ‘it was great to see the effort those interested in the position went to’.

Roger Georgieff, Canterbury United Board Chairman Elect is delighted to attract someone of Danny’s calibre. “Canterbury United embraces the youth league as a pathway to ASB Premiership and beyond. We have an outstanding track record having won the title 2 of the last 3 seasons under the previous coaching regime led by Alan Walker and we are confident that Danny will continue this success’.

Hard to deny his credentials in terms of playing (which has arguably given him an in to the coaching opportunities he's had). Am I being too cynical in expecting to see his son in the baby dragons XI more often than not?

Catch-up Results - 1st game

FC 2011 1 Cashmere Technical 2 was 1 all at the break, two early goals. Technical dominated and was almost one way traffic but not for the first time this season wasted chances not only scored the winner at the death. Could prove to be a vital goal come late August.

That's a bit harsh Gings. You have to back that up with some hard evidence; such as, for example, Jordan being selected to play for his club team when perhaps there are other players more deserving than the coach's son...oh

Apparently Halligan wasn't happy with Cashmere's performance last night v FCsolastyear but hey, 3 points is 3 points. Not sure what Brownie had to say.

Junior rep team coaches announced apparently. A few I have heard through the grapevine (ie, not official, don't blame me if it's not correct):

16 boys: Graham McMann (unattched? no longer Halswell? APFA?), Graeme Allen (Western/Mainland)

15 boys: Fred Simpson (Cashmere), Carlos DeFreitas (Cashmere)

14 boys: Terry Hall (FTC & Cashmere), Gareth Preston (Cashmere)

13 boys: Andrew McWillam (Cashmere), plus one other

Anyone else see any issues here?

I don't know all the players at Tech well enough to pass judgement but having heard a few things over the years......

Cashmere to win Nike cup & Tsunami next year - you heard it here first. They are good coaches though.

11 boys

Peter Livingstone (FC2011?)

Cvetan Ivanov (FC2011 FDM)

Shane Verma (Halswell PDL)

Matt Hoole (???)

Have to say theres some real quality in the appointments - top flight coaches coming down the ranks to guide the next generation, its a good thing for the region. Surprised they've allowed a mainland FDO to have a team - usually they float around and assist/observe the various age groups.

FC or United for the drop?

Has Coastal's loss of form down to Ash being injuried? .

I'd agree with that having watched every game this season. Not that I'd tell him that.

United getting the drop would probably kill that club. They've got pretty much nothing further down the club (youth etc)
