English Cup tonight: Nomads vs. Coastal Spirit

HT and Coastal leading a 5 goal thriller 3 - 2.

FT with Coastal winning 5 - 3.

Yes excellent night of footy for spirited supporters of Coastal. 2 - 0 up in the first 10 minutes but yet again they leaked goals by ball watching and lacking an effective mid field screen at the top of the box. Heaps of opportunities for both sides in an open entertaining game played in near freezing conditions on the slippery plastic. Could have been 8 all, steady Eddie made a couple of great 2nd half saves while Nomads squandered a couple of great opportunities. Ash opened his account for the season and finished with a double, tap it in Turnbull finished off the move of the night, Danny Palfreyman scored with a classy finish and Chris O'Neil fired in a 20 yard screamer. Scrappy last 25 as both teams rang the changes but well worth the entry fee. Bring on the Chatham Cup.

What's sight without sound? Love without peace? Copulation without conception?

Yes Chatham Cup ties on Saturday

Coastal vs. Western, Nomads vs. Halswell, University vs FC Twenty11, Waimak vs. Selwyn, Richmond Atheletic vs. Nelson College and Pirates vs FC Nelson.

University and Waimak on top of Div 1 both unbeaten so Waimak should defeat Selwyn and FC Twenty11 could be tested by the students, the other ChCh games maybe to close to call.

Bays and Technical both drawn byes.

Have to agree well worth the night out in the cold but I did miss the Tuesday night at the pub following the oldies kick around which last night was in the gym.

Not a lot for the ref to do for most of the game just a bit more in the last 15 mins to earn his match fee .

Eddie did come to Coastal aid and defenders clearing the Coastal line when needed late on.

Duncan fluffed a couple at the Nomads end that should have been saved, not his best game but better on Saturday will be just fine.

Nomads coach kept DH happy by giving JH a full game don't expaect to see him getting on v Halswell unless tha score blows out one way or the other.

Yes noticed that. How does that happen and the local club doesn't get notified?\
Should be great sport retrieving the ball across Pages Road.

Officials out to pasture at Tulett Park.

Ha;swell better on the full 90 but comes back to a couple of calls going against Nomads.

Yellow card for ball being blasted close range into Nomads players arm just away from body and near the half way line.

Calls the other way Halswell player handles in tha area above his head then no penalty, What you got to be ##g.

Nomads have ball in the goal a metre or more over the line, no goal as ass ref is still nearer to half way than the goal line and doesn't have a monkies about what has happenend but gives offside for player putting in third shot after the goal should have been given.

Thats the breaks and giving the MPL main focus not the cups for this year.

FC20 should play the div 5 boys in the MPL.

University were well worth their win started the stronger with early chances - one cleared off the line with FC then taking the lead about 5 minutes before the break with the students hitting straight back. After the break Univ kept up the pressure going forward at every chance and once they when 3 - 1 their was no way FC there going to score two goal to get back into the game, with Univ. finishing the stronger the final result could have be 5 or 6 - 1.
If there is any good news for FC and also Nomads they can focus in the MPL.

Forgot to add that the University ground at Ilam Field was great and they bring out couches for the fans to sit, nothing like watching footy in comfort, also as their local FM station providing a little music pre match.

Chatham Cup Draw

Southern Region

Central Pirates v Nelson College
Halswell United v Cashmere Technical
Western v Ferrymead Bays
Waimak United v Universities

Interesting next round in the Chatham Cup with both remaining Div 1 teams Waimak and Uni drawing each other and dodging the Premier League sides. Western get Bays and Halswell get Tech.

In other random cup draw news, I notice in the English Cup Tech have a big match against Div 4 Amberley. Altho looking at the Chatham Cup draw on the Mainland site I can't work out what is happeneing. The real draw is here

Yes it one of the faults with the result section on the Mainland Fed wedsite, does not allow for the 'open draw' format for Cups.

And the BIG transfer news Allan Carville from Burnside to Coastal Spirit, not bad a couple of ex All Whites in the over 45's. I wonder if they will pull out the old 1 - 2 - long punt from Stroudy to Carvy to score.

Other transfer news Jerry Dongo International Clearence completed to Nelson Suburbs.

Stroudy's knees are buggered, he'll have to throw it :)

No problems, CS will need more than that having played them and won already this season, would be good to catch up with Allan and mark him out of the game.

A good bunch of guys to play against competitive in a 50/60 year olds way without being grizzle guts. No prize for guessing which club is the worst at this.

Process on tonight's English Cup game.

Western 1 University 1 at half time with Western scoring again early in the 2nd half to lead 2 - 1. Very foggy at ASB Football Park.

A big clash in Div 1 this Saturday with Waimak taking on University at Kendal Park, both side unbeaten at this stage.

Some of the FC 90210 lads at the game tonight reckoned that varsity had a completely different set of players out .... so either their reserve team beat FC at the weekend, or their reserve team was in fact on the pitch tonight. Either way, holy hell that's some depth.

Surprised the FC players would know which University players are which as they were chasing shadows on Saturday.
