Western have Hamish Cadigan and Phil Thackwell turning out for them this year. HC was not wanted by FC2011 for MPL or PDL.
If this shows the strength of both FC2011 and Western then FC to finish one place above bottom team Western.

Phil played with our PDL team last year and will be with them again this year. Hamish is only 15 so still plenty of time to improve. As i said we will struggle but i think we have enough to avoid relegation.

Quickly changing the subject: the Mainland clearances page here, is chocker full of the FC Nelson and Nelson transfers. So obviously they just transferred for the Nike Cup and then have gone back to their own club. I know it doesn't really matter, but it seems a little dodgy to me. Can you just transfer to another club for a tournament, then back to your own for the season? What if it happened in CHCH between clubs?VimFuego2012-02-21 22:35:11

Well we looked different, with all signings starting and a couple off the bench. We missed a penalty, and a tap in, and Western scored 3 more times than us.
I don't like talking about the bad times...

Good to see wee Hamish come off the bench for his debut tonight with a good performance topped off with a fine goal. Do FC2011 have any more rejects to pass on to us?

Very suprised by the Western vs Coastal score. Shame I was working because they both sound like they were decent games.
I agree that is very shady, good thing it didnt help them in the nike cup

Is he the lad who scored the final goal? Tremendous shot to complete a clinical win. If FC2011 (that name is so yesterday:)) have 11 players better than him put your house on them winning the league.
Average game as one would expect at this stage of the year with lots of lol moments. Western cerainly fired up more, certainly more bite in tackles against former team mates. If they can improve on that they will go well in the league. Coastal certainly have a good looking PDL team in the making.

I believe that is the rule every year, but this would be the most blatant use so far. Check out that page I linked Feverish and tell me what you think.

RN & VF if you want to get into legal TECHNICALities how about this: has anyone checked the date of incorporation on the charitable trusts website to see if cashmere technical was in fact a LEGALLY formed entity (& thus eligible club) on the date they entered and or played the Nike cup? Or did mainland just allow them to enter on the basis it was going to happen at some stage?Stretford End2012-02-23 07:12:53

So Nike Cup was played Waitangi weekend - 4,5,6 February.
Was the official entry Cashmere Technical? Or did the team play under the name Cashmere? or Technical?
According to both the Mainland website and Mainland's administered Sporting Pulse site it was CASHMERE TECHNICAL who entered, played and won the Mainland leg of the Manchester United Cup.
So, where does that leave us? Rematch? Lawyers emails to to Old Trafford anyone?
Do the other clubs who entered the competition have an opinion? What do people on here think?

I don't think its something worth chasing. If we did, we would end up looking like the new Burnsides of Chch football with all their backdoor antics. I'd let this one fly.
Bigger issues in football off-season is the "congratulations you're in the FTC" letter, quickly followed up by a "actually we've changed it and now you will attend one 60 minute trial" How anyone can make a massive decision like that in 60 minutes I don't know. And the fact that some Canterbury coaches are taking almost entire Canty teams to their new club makes a mockery of the no poaching rules applied last year.
Who said off seasons had no drama!

I don't quite get it because there is no club called "Nelson" which these players seem to be transferring from.
The only remaining junior clubs in the city are Nelson Suburbs, FC Nelson, Richmond Athletic

which age groups/clubs are you talking about?
FTC does seem to be getting rushed through, the fact they've trimmed 3 or 4 squads isn't really a good thing either.
What was the meeting by Mainland Football on Tuesday night after the Dragons training and Coastal tournament games about?
Was by invite only. Which clubs got invite to go?

Tuesday night was FTC coaching meeting
tonight was 12, then 13 boys FTC trials
nice group of kids and some touches of good football from what I viewed.
not sure who tomorrow is, Monday s 12 and 13 girls.
Alan and Ed did a parents presentation about FTC - NZF - Whole of Football
I thought they did a really good job.
Couple of interesting questions from the parents caught my ear, but were answered well.
Also may be 2nd trials if selectors can't finalize. Not entirely sure how you can get a group picked from one view , and an obvious flash point for complaint
overall FTC is on paper a lot better than the Academy set up. With the right players and the right coaches it looks like a winner. I suspect the younger age groups have more players, so maybe 2 groups for say 12 and 13's but only one for 15, 16's....

Why are Mainland employing coaches for these teams? Are the football development officers they employ too busy to undertake these roles themselves? It seems a bit weird to me...

FDO's are involved.
so there might be 4 coaches working with 2x 12's and 2 x 13's squads with the FDO.
they also do the game day analysis of players in their club teams
I like the concept of the FDO overseeing the group as it adds transparency.

Unconfirmed rumor #1: gareth Preston the new coastal PDL coach has resigned before the season has even started. Preston joined coastal after coaching Tech's 14 div 1 team and a junior canty rep team that failed to make the semi finals in 2011. Coastal would have been preston's 4th club in 4 years. Word is he is back at tech taking 18 div 1. Like I says... Unconfirmed. Opinion: good for coastal.

Unconfirmed rumor #2: ex tech junior convenor and board chair Simon Gerathy has transferred his 3 children to coastal (2 from tech, one from Mainland academy). Word is he resigned in november and doesn't believe the merger is being well handled. Opinion: another win for coastal.

. And the fact that some Canterbury coaches are taking almost entire Canty teams to their new club makes a mockery of the no poaching rules applied last year.
Who said off seasons had no drama!
which age groups/clubs are you talking about?.
The coach is Danny with his Academy team that played in the PDL last season, is taking most of the lads to the New Technical club.
This does present a problem for some of the players that also are in the Canterbury Dragons NYL team.
The last word was they will not be released by Canterbury until the ASB Prem has finished or the Dragons are out of play offs, this means no transfers to a new club [Tech/Cashmere] can go ahead. These kids have no club football up to middle of May or they play for the club as previously registered with.
Watch DH talk Mainland and Alan Walker [who brought in the no release] out of keeping that past the local season start date.
Alan I think had a one and all approach to them being available.
Remember the Dragons must have a number of these players to call on each game and need cover for injuries to other youth players.

I knew about the FTC meetings and they started before 8.30pm.
Something to do with the local leagues I think the word was with Keith and Andy being involved.
I will have to get closer to the ground at the ASB game on Sunday to find out more then.
Maybe all will come out at the Mainland MPL/PDL meeting on the 7th March.

True. (players to CS)
appears some clubs are picking up players as a direct result of the CW-WT merge.
However these clubs are also the ones most likely to have 'new player catchment' issues post Earthquake.

I don't know the specifics of that instance/side you mention. Where they Nomads who played in the Tsunami tournament 2011?
both Vim and Gings have linked to the clearances page, have a look. For me there is a real obvious one, or at least one point of arrival that seems odd....

Wow so many topics going on at once.
I wasn't referring to the the Danny Halligan club swapping in my dig at coaches taking entire teams, but that is a goodie. So he has moved his team to WoolstonTechCashmere, after previously moving from Chch Utd to Nomads. Where next?
But there are other strange goings on in the transfers page, along with some parents being told "I am the Canty coach and your son/daughter will do well to be in my club team"

That is a huge win for Coastal, I know atleast one of his boys is highly rated in terms of NTC, pretty sure all 3 were junior rep players last year?

Didn't think you meant Danny as he wasnt involved at rep level, only at academy, does suck for Nomads to lose 99% of what was a very good 17s team a few years ago.
Coaches telling parents they're the canty coach is a bit off though, unless Alan Walker has made appointments before applications.
