Kiwi Bafana 2 - 3 Eurasia

What a game!! The score was 0-3 at half time. we dominated in the first half, finding the back of the net 3 times, and coming close to scoring another 1 or 2.
In the second half they threw all they had at us and had the upper hand. They scored 2 and thanks to our staunch defence they didn't find the equalizer. Going to the extra times would have probably meant defeat for us.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable game, and I would've said the same even if we had lost.
Well done to Bafana who performed a significant transformation in the 2nd half. Well done to our boys who played a galactic 1st half and managed to keep up for the last 45 minutes.

Just one last point. I think the whole pre-game chat (with the ref's) actually inflated the matter beyond its size. I mean, we know well who the trouble makers are. I think that most of the teams who reached the quarters are made of mature and serious players. yeah there will always be a bit of moaning to the ref, there will be handballs and tackles, but I don't see anything major happening.

we lost to last years champions 5-1, a couple of dubious refeering decisions, but hey what do you expect from Pedro hahahaha, end of the day they outmuscled our lads and played good basic football, they are very hard to break down defensively as their defense pretty much camps on the 18yard box, then relys on their forwards to do the work on the counter. good luck to all next week

true but wasn't that the gave UK kiwi vs Oromo? We played Oromo in our last pool match and they seemed to be nice enough guys. Apparently though they had 4 people sent off in their previous game. And when they played us, in the dying minutes of the game, with the result locked on 7-0 to us, one of them went completely apesh*t at the ref as he thought he was owed a penalty for a rather clumsy dive in the box.

He started shouting, twitching, and showed a remarkable knowledge of swear words for a foreigner (he even beat me). Needless to say he was sent off.

But I think Quarters have been more about football than figths and bitching at the ref

yep, we work closely with Ken Howatt from CCC. they have been doing it 4-5 years to our 3.Poland are champs and are coming to National tournie in Nov. Nxt year they may go toa 6 a side format cos last year they had problems with overly competitive teams, so they want to increase the social aspect.

Contact Ken if you are keen on more info

Somalia 2 - 1 Eurasia.

Very intense game. Somalia played very well. They were confident at the back and had the upper hand (sadly) in the midfield for most of the game. Their finishing wasn't up to scratch. The team moved together, 10 men going up and 10 going back to defend, I really have to give them full credit. It's a pity that we managed to hang in there till the end, find a goal, and then we didn't have enough stamina to equalise. A 2-2 results would have been a bit of a theft to be honest, but hey, when you're 2-1 with 10' to go, it is a crime not to give it a crack.

So well done to Somalia and well done to us who gave 110% even when our striker was sent off in an instance which I call "bizarre" at least. And am using an euphemism. But anyway, don't hate the players, hate the game!

Great tournament, can't wait to be back next year. Thanks Tayo, Tony Morrison and all those involved.

PRESS RELEASE

NZ Football star supports ethnic soccer tournament

High-profile New Zealand football star Wynton Rufer, will speak at the conclusion of the highly-successful Ethnic Community Football tournament this Saturday (October 18) at  Awakairangi Park, Upper Hutt.

The tournament is the third to be held in the Wellington region and has grown into a high profile event, said organiser Tayo Agunlejika. We are a thrilled to have such a big name in the soccer world support the event which has seen ethnic communities brought together through football, a passion among people of many nations.  The final match between the UK Kiwi team and Somalia is sure to prove highly entertaining and competitive..

But it is not just about fun and friendly rivalry, said Mr Agunlejika. Another thing that most of the players from developing countries share is the poverty which affects their families and countrymen back in their homelands.

To this end the tournament has also been a vehicle to raise funds for specially selected projects in developing countries, two of which use soccer as a vehicle for addressing social issues. The Gargaar project in Somalia is one such project and is supported by New Zealand aid and development organisation TEAR Fund.

As part of its wider strategy, the project is using soccer to help young Somali ex-militia men lay down their weapons and reintegrate back into civilian life. Naenae soccer team will donate used football gear to the Lady Diana Football Club in Somalia.

The event will also raise funds for another TEAR Fund project which will see a well built for Nomadic communities in Niger. Wynton Rufer will speak on behalf of TEAR Fund and its projects at the event.

i left final with 20 mins to go- healthy crowd incl. Wynton Rufer.
somalia were leading 4-1 at that point- game getting feisty

Somalia looked class all over the park incl. the keepr who was the whitest somalian i have ever seen- he looked a dead ringer for our lad Granville

Somalia, barring a late implosion, are wynners i reckon. well done that team- they will now join Bayern as Wgtn regions reps in the national tournie, Rongotai Coll on 30 Nov.

well done Tayo too
