Naenae and the spirit of football.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Much of the chat I heard today , at Memorial Park and then at the Hutt Park, was around Naenae's decision to field a weakened team for the Stop Out Match.

Over at the Hutt Park a couple of ex-coaches (both had teams in Central League at some stage) commented "how do you keep your best players match fit if you don't play them?".

Consensus, from others about,  was that it seemed to be against the spirit of football.

Madness. You've only got to look at what happened to the All Blacks at the last World Cup to realise resting players doesn't work.  There's no replacement for match fitness.

I'm going to refrain from commenting too much because certain people from my club watch this, but I can tell you that there were alot of people not impressed.

I was told last week by a Stop Out board member that Stop Out also are'nt fielding their stronest lineup at the moment as they are taking the opportunity now that the first team is safe to blood some younger players.
Dairyflt, is that also against "the spirit of football" when it could be advantaging the teams they are playing that could be involved in promotion/relegation battles?

I think there's a difference between resting a few players and/or trying to get a few youngsters to ripen by playing 1st team and fielding a team of div.16 players.

I was there but didn't really spend too much time asking questions. Rumour was that the Naenae team was made of div.9-16 players but I don't want to pass any judgement as I don't know any of their players anyway!

It wasn't a team of Div sixteen.  The Nighthawks has a great win in Capital Sixteen... the team at the Raceway MAY have had a couple of the Nighthawks but certainly was not all the Nighthawks.

Gio's 9-16 is an accurate description.

Cool, thanks for clearing that HN. However, I have one question for you.
If the description div.9-16 was "accurate"...why didn't you get a run?!?!?! I actually looked out for you, but couldn't see you anywhere :-)

Anyway congratz to you guys, 5-0 is a very decent result vs Stop Out 1st team!!

I forgot, two Masters players as well... and one of them wasn't the 50-something year old Nighthawks midfielder.

One centre back was 55 and the other one was 44, also had a 47 year old in centre mildfield.

Yes I heard that aswell.  Wouldnt it have been better if Naenae rested their key players plus any in card trouble and played the others in the squad that could of benefitted from the game time? Makes more sense than resting them all for two weeks
