I see where you are coming from JV, but seven goals conceded in six games tells a good story. I think I've attended four of those games (and countless others over the past few years), and while the Wanderers boys are prone to the odd mistake they do contribute with some solid stuff, Luque is a good young player, How's distribution is dodgy as you say but his tackling is often excellent, Young is developing into a nice player and Shaw, well, he's a bit like Mark Jones, you'll never get less than 100% commitment defensively. So I see your point about distribution after the ball has been won, but winning the ball in the first place hasn't been too much of a problem.

Without the Chileans their midfield would lack a slight bit of creativity in terms of through-the-middle play, but their stocks out wide are actually pretty handy, crossing is definitely a strength (heading is not without Frischkent). The addition of the Chileans and Singh is the real X-Factor for this side this season, the ability to play a diagonal ball forward and use Singh's speed is a great counter for when things are going too well in the midfield mixer.

2 chilians vs. Jack hobson and dylan windust

fijian striker vs. jasper and jake hall

sounds like a good match up, the striker has pace over the 2 center backs but they're both very good defenders.

Very much a Waikato FC connection, it's basically a Waikato FC inter-squad game.

Permalink Permalink

It means a fair bit more than a Waikato inter squad kick about.

Three for me, and two for them.

Oh definitely. Win this and you guys will definitely be odds-on favourites to go and win the whole league.

According to one of there injured players  tonite  ( after a few beers)  both Hobson and windust both injured....

Also another former Waikato player has signed Adam Wallis but not match fit yet..

Apart from pace Singh offers little, constantly offside and poor touch on the ball, Wanderers would be stuffed without the  chilean lads

I have to agree with this. Wanderers look very lightweight up front and the game I watched, this here above summed up his contribution perfectly. I don't get the hype on him

I agree they have some nice young pieces on the flanks. There are a couple of blond headed boys (don't know the names sorry) whom looked good. Cossey has some nice pieces but I would like to see them with a real out and out striker. We shall agree to disagree on Singh.

Singh's performances haven't been too good of late, a bit of a goal drought, but he showed with Waikato FC how dangerous he can be when he finds his shooting boots. I guess that's why he's an X-Factor, you don't know what you're going to get.

Just got back from one of the more entertaining games I've seen in a while, Wanderers v Birko.

Birko went up 1-0 early from a shot which Frank saved, only into the path of Windust who tucked it home, and Birko looked the more lively side early on. It looked pretty bleak for Wanderers when Franchini got himself sent off, he had been having a bit of niggle with Birko for the first 25 minutes, he bundled someone over who gave him a bit of a nudge for his troubles on the ground, Eder stuck his boot in and deservedly got a red card, also sparking a mini-brawl

Straight away after the red card Wanderers scored, Mark Jones went on one of his trademark bulldozing runs down the right, put through a superb throughball to Broderson who finished well. It then poured down at halftime, making conditions a bit tricky early on in the second spell, Cossey got sent off also for yelling at the lino, who then complained to the ref and off he went, Stu Hogg put the ball in the back of the net but got called back for bowling over the keeper. Varela and Birko's Iclandanic-looking guy got into yet another team brawl, both getting yellows, and it got right down into injury time and looked like ending 1-1.

Then substitute (must have been injured enough to not start) Jack Hobson-McVeigh popped up with a vicious strike after a bit of pinball in the area, all the Birko reserves I was sitting with went nuts, Birko had a dogpile down by Wanderers' goal, Fletcher ran all the way down to join in.

Everyone from Wanderers is deflated, they kick off, Birko lose concentration, all of a sudden a ball is put into the area, what do you know, it's Jordan Shaw making a run from the back..... header.... Fletcher stranded.... 2-2! 2 injury time goals!

A classic match, standouts were Windust, Jasper was solid, Mark Jones was immense, he always gives you hustle but today his passing and runs were superb also, just everywhere on the park, my Man of the Match, great game between two very good teams.

We thought we would go check out the Ellerslie game and sit up on the bank. Entertaining. Great surface to play football on. ECB were the better side and deserved their win. Ellerslie put up a good fight in the 1st and deservedly went 2-1 up. They have a nice young side and their captain was immense for them. After the half, Ellerslie just kicked it long to the ECB back 4 at half way and played out from there to win it 4-2 without too much fuss. Some bone headed challenges and a yellow card for, and I'm not making this up, diving over near the touch line - miles from the box. It was quite embarrassing actually watching Willy protest it. Late red card and pen for a massive shove on the striker, in the box, on goal. Those are coach killers. Otherwise entertaining. Great atmosphere, good intensity, refs did a good job too surprisingly. Just a good game of local football. I will go again I think.

Sports and Ham 1-1 draw, sports snuck a an equalizer with a couple of mins to go, not a good game, Ham's ex sports player chillian lad was on the end of plenty of stick from the home fans, scored a screamer. Sports lack any quality up front.

How did they do that Buffy? Did they just go 'well we have this, no need to try' ?

That would be Birkos first loss in how long?

Nah Central just got going and started outplaying us. Tade was superb for them.

First league loss in 30 games.

Three for me, and two for them.

I was not a fan of Paul Hobson a couple of years back but I do admit he has done some good things with that club and built a nice team of young talent so I take my hat off to him and his work. That's bloody amazing if that's the first loss in 30 league games.

Yep agreed. Only his 11th loss in all games (league and chat cup) since taking over the first team in 2010.

Three for me, and two for them.

I do like Birko's style of play, many teams try to play in a similar style but Birko manage to pull it off better than most teams I've seen in the past two years.

That was some game . Birko 3 up .16 yr old Elijah Neblett grabbing 2...then Tade scored a stunner. Then a free header from a corner on thee H.T whistle.......

Pretty even 2 nd half then keeper error 3/3...

Central  then dominate  go 5/3 up Birko made all subs ...2 players get injured . Hit the post  ,2 amazing saves from the central keeper , get one back  then full time phew! Some game....

Birkenhead stopped playing when went 3/3.... Tade was all class.....whilst hob-mcveigh was superb for Birkenhead

According to the the club stat man. 1 st loss in 30... And 3 rd loss in 52 but big step up from lower divisions to prem's...

Central played well and just about deserved the win...

Nah i don't think so. The squad is still strong. Don't know what people expect anyway, it's our first season back in the Prem. We won't go down so we've already done well.

Why the sudden interest anyway Feverish?

Three for me, and two for them.
