has there been player movement between the two clubs?

Not a whole lot, the rivalry I think is more likely to come from all the Wanderers guys angry at Declan for overlooking pretty much all of them for Waikato FC spots in favour of the young blokes, almost all who will be at Melville this year. Guys like How, Frishy, Mark Jones, Max Tommy, all left out

I dont know a lot of them players but mark jones was def good enough for waikato and i liked the forward frishy ...
max tommy seems to bottle it at national league level saw him with waitakere youth bundle of nerves!

what ha;;ens to the melville team from last year as they were top 3 i think?

Well from what I've heard it's going to mainly be the Waikato FC team, just playing for Melville instead. I assume that most of the older blokes (Bates, Douglas etc) may be going.

However, I'm mainly speculating at this point, maybe Bruce can give us further insight

maybe they will go to narra with chewins?

Yes, Chewins was the other I was forgetting. Class act, will be great for narra. I go to many of their games, hopefully they won't be out of their depth after the promotion.

But yes, that would definitely have to be an option, if I was in the situation I would probably be keen to do so

Be a tough test for narra first game v birkenhead.
Would imagin with chewins there and if they keep most of last seasons team do ok.watched them twice last year  and was impressed

Chewins???? Hmmm ok.

Mark Jones was never and has never been good enough to play national league football simply cause he prefers to run with the ball instead of making he easy pass first time. Coaches frustrating nightmare. The only one that could feel aggrieved for being overlooked is the Fish lad upfront. The rest....

All about opions ...
maybe jones just dosent fit into the waikato game plan dosent mean he's not good enough
  for another nat league team...

Who would he play for sir? Perhaps Manawatu? Well in fairness to that, anyone would probably be national league material if they put on a YHM shirt because it couldn't get much worse. Hell even News would be Premiership material....

Fair enough. I don't think he would be we can agree to disagree. I think Otago have performed better this year than away from Malcolm (which is odd because the table does not show that) and they are playing some good football when I have seen them twice. In fact pretty much every team is playing better sans Waitakere and Manawatu really when you think about it.

a little off the current topic but just wondering what everyone's predicitions are for promotion, relagation etc in the 3 NRFL Men's leagues this year?

The premier league seems to be wide open for about 3 or 4 teams to win.

Fair call most of those,

I think in the premier league that East Coast Bays will be there or thereabouts, i think Bay Olympic may have lost a few players to Waitakere City as well.

Premier:

Winner
East Coast Bays
Waitakere City

Going Down
Eastern Suburbs
Melville (ASB Premiership players to struggle to backup)

Interesting call on Melville chopah, will be interesting to see how the kids back up in the winter league, bit more physical/agricultural than the national league.

I haven't seen/heard much of the prems this year so can't comment there but my predictions for the other 2 leagues would be:

Div 1

Up:
Birkenhead
Ellerslie

Down:
Metro
Lynn Avon

Div 2

Up:
Matamata
Tauranga

Bottom:
Manukau City

Not sure about Sports - will find out this weekend i guess.

Another team i think may stuggle but will probably just stay in the premier league will be Manurewa, i'm just not sure how they will merge the team that was promoted last year with all the new guys coming in under the Root/Devine era.

Rewa have been a club in the past 4 or so year that have been awesome in Div 1 and poor in premier league, and with Mark Armstrong stepping aside but remaining at the club in some capacity will there be tension if results don't come early on?

Shore v Three Kings Sunday 4pm Allen Hill.

Agree Olympic v Birko will be very interesting as a final hit out for both teams. Birko have Narra then Nth Force both away to start the season, both very tough road trips if they start well there i think they'll run away with the league.

Three for me, and two for them.

Watched Warkworth last week v Waitak, seemed sh*t-scared to attack and got thumped 6-0 by Waitak at a walking pace

Should be interesting to see if they are more adventurous against lower league opponents - if not then strong candidates for the drop

Oratia 7-0 Warkworth

Watched this and Warkworth look like cannon fodder, Oratia looked good across the park and were 6-0 up at half time but Warkworth will struggle to stay in the league on this performance as they were played off the park....NRFL2 next week and the serious stuff starts

I wouldn't read too much into that result Heed the Baal. Warkworth had 9 first teamers out, around 7 of which would usually be starting. You would have seen a number of the ressies play 2 games and guys playing that will not get within spitting distance of the 1st team during the season.

In saying that, Oratia looked good and should go well in the league this year. Will be interesting to see who is on top at the end of the season and looking to go up.

was able to get a good look at sports in the game against Ellerslie yesterday and from what i saw they looked ok.

they have a got a strong tall team and will do well on set pieces and they have some quick tricky players up front and wide. They were a little slow at the back which might be their obvious weakness but i tip them for a decent season, would be surprised to see them in the bottom two come season end.

Bozz,

If that was the case then good to know that Warkworth will be competitive as there is nothing worse than seeing a team struggle or worse every week and we lose players from the game, didnt see the first game so can't comment on how many doubled up

With Oratia you have to still wonder how many will get headhunted elsewhere before the season kicks off

MAP v Albany to kick it all off on Friday night. Looking forward to a potential early season relegation indicator here.

Three for me, and two for them.
