I picking Petone 2-0. Taranaki have lost their player coach and will lack fire power to get past Petone this time.
I think it will be 2-1 to Petone up there too.

Its no longer a problem.

Losing their coach would be a bonus - saw him perfom at the raceway against Stop Out at half-time.Taranaki were well in the  match, only to have this " coach "  use" abusive and insulting language, when all they need was a bit more encouragment. They won't miss him

Agreed. I thought rant was pretty undignified.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

How many games have Taranaki played in the last few weeks?
Permalink Permalink

They played last weekend - lost 3-0 to Wests.  Before that, they hadn't played since August 4, when they lost 6-1 to LHC.

I don't think the Naki can be underestimated as they play in a tough league, they will fight to keep the level of football in the region for the players coming through so they may surprise a few...

Agreed it will be tough but I think Petone have the fire power to take it this time. They dominated both games last season and just need a bit of luck and it would have been a different result.
Good luck boys. Ill be there to watch (but not with my Nix scarf Retro Ricki on. They're the wrong colour).
COME ON PETONE!!!

Its no longer a problem.

He isn't exactly the smallest guy around - Come to think of it I may still have one of his studs in my foot from about 3 years ago.

Obviously from a clubs perspective (financially) it would be good to have Petone in the league but piss trips away with your team mates is what footy is all about.

Honestly I think Petone will be too strong for Taranaki but heres hoping I'm wrong

Petone 3 Naki 1.

Naki scored early, then had a man sent off for a flailing elbow about 40 minutes.  Whitmarsh headed Petone equal on about 47 minutes, right at the half whistle.

Petone had pretty much all the second half and the youngsters picked up a couple more.

Anyone know who scored goals 2 and 3 for Petone?
Permalink Permalink

Michael Pickering got the 2nd and young Richard McLay got the third. It wasn't as convincing as it couild have been after a slow start from Petone. Taranaki will struggle in the next game after getting a player sent off and also losing two, including their keeper, to injury.
Deserved to win but if they play as well as they can it should be 3 or 4 up there.

Its no longer a problem.

Yes, well done Petone. Less travel for the rest of us now.

You have done Upper Hutt a huge favour. They don't deserve it if you ask me. Paying players to join at the end of the season did them no good. The club officials need to look real hard at each other and justify why they should stay.
Great junior club, obviously under control of another structure within the club.

Every other club pays players, so why should we be any different.  Just because we didnt  pay them at the start makes no difference.  And once them players joined the results picked up.  Finishing 15 points ahead of last and only 5 adrift of Kapiti.  Upper Hutt is to big a club with alot of local support not to be in the top wellington league.

Not true. Wellington United dont pay any of there players and they seem to do alright without paying players

Just about every man and his dog knows how much the two players concerned were paid. If you think that every club pays that much for a hand full of games you are sadly mis-informed and so very wrong.
I feel sad for the players who missed out because the two concerned came in.

At the end of the day you came second to bottom and should go down.

I never said that they all get paid the same.  no need to feel sad for the ones that missed out.  Do you feel sad for all the players that miss out due to there being better players available.  Although in this case the players that missed out were injured, so weren't going to play anyway.

As for coming 2nd to bottom, yes we did and played the playoff game and lost.  But should 2 teams go down anyway in only a 10 team league.
