Back to the thread topic. Who scored for Petone (or should it be who didn't score). Sounds pretty convicing. I imagine the party at the Speights Ale House was a big one.
Well done boys.

Its no longer a problem.

Just about every man and his dog knows how much the two players concerned were paid. If you think that every club pays that much for a hand full of games you are sadly mis-informed and so very wrong.
I feel sad for the players who missed out because the two concerned came in.

At the end of the day you came second to bottom and should go down.

Just so you know and we get some facts straight here. The Upper Hutt Club did not pay for the so called two players concerned. Upper Hutt still have the policy of not paying players. These players came in to try and give a hand to keep Upper hutt up.
Whether you know or not but Upper Hutt were actually struggling for players so the two new ones coming in actually gave UH a full squad.
Unfotunately the results did not go our way at the end but thanks to Petone (By the way Congrats to Fossie and his team) we stay up.

Has TW come knocking at your door yet Chops, I heard they need some centre backs.

Good Tui ad Nightz. I'm sure they want centre backs that are playing not watching from the sideline.

Anyway we all know summer is for drinking, bikinis and bbq's. Let's not ruin it by playing footy.

well done Petone. Great stuff. Pretty bazaar score though - any indications that Naki had already flagged playing Central Lge before the game had started? Whats this about Gisi potentially flagging Central Lge?

Hell, there won't be any piss trips at this rate - might have to take up bowls. At least I can't get sent off and the booze is cheap

Karlos is playing but is injured (strange training accident from what I hear). Why not give David Lane a go at that level? He's been the best centre back in Cap Prem for the last 5 seasons. Play him in front of a ball player like Karlos and that would work well I recon.

Its no longer a problem.

I've seen him against B and G Little in their prime as well as Feld at Wests and Rowe at Wgtn Utd and he never looked out of place. With some coaching from the likes of Stu I'm sure he'd be able to step up. He's certainly an option as cover if nothing else.

Its no longer a problem.

The day was overcast with a gentle breeze, A good number of Petone fans had ventured to Taranaki to support the boys.. TT kicked off and right from the outset their game plan was obvious, get the ball in Petones half and scrap like demons to get the desired outcome. Both teams were up for the battle and after the initial settling down period it was Petone who opened the scoring after 8 mins with a header to Whitmarsh who out jumped the keeper after a cross from Arraj.

5 min later another good cross from Arraj, a good lay off from Whitmarsh to Manzone whose finish was clinical. TT through everything at Petone during the next period which included hitting the crossbar and post following a corner.  Petone weathered the storm and after a cutting through ball from Dawson to Pickering who calmly went around the keeper, composing himself and finishing from a sharp angle making it 3 after 40 mins. Some more fine inter passing saw Whitmarsh through with a one on one sore him score his second and Petones 4th  with a couple to go before the break.

With the game technically over the second half started slow, TT making a couple of subs including the coach Graham. TT continued to press and had a couple more chances with Rippon making two fine saves and some good defending from Lane, Sambrooke and E Barclay making sure it was going to be a clean sheet today. Petone introduced there 3 young subs McClay, Daly and Weepu-Messanger at different stages during the second spell and this brought new life and energy to the team. The 5th  resulted in a good run from McClay down the left and a telling cross with a TT defender turning it into his own net.  By now the Petone midfield of Winkworth and McCullough were totally dominating.

Number 6 wasnt too far away after a strong determined run from Daley and another telling ball across the box where McClay hit it first time and with the speed of a bullet sore the ball nestle in the back of the net. Goal 7 finished what was a fantastic display by the blues where Daly crossed to Whitmarsh who had time to beat two defenders and pick his spot for what a deserved hat trick and also making it 8 goals in the play offs.

A marvellous performance by Petone with every player contributing. Taranaki were gracious in defeat admitting they were outplayed. The final whistle was greeted with a roar and the supporters and players celebrated.

This might sound a little one sided but I can certainly tell you it wasnt, Taranaki did have their chances and were not there to just make up the numbers but I can be a little bias as I  am a huge Petone fan and it was great to see this performance which finally put us in central League.

How sad!

It  is a shame that "Team Taranaki" have been so very poor this year.
As a representative side, drawing players from the 13 club sides in the Naki, they have seriously misrepresented, the football clubs of Taranaki and been poor ambassodors for the Central Soccer Region..
None of the 13 Taranaki clubs contractually bound to this Rep side  have been able to play a level higher level than a Taranaki  local league, since Team Taranaki was formed in the 2003.
These clubs have also had to sponsor these low flyers and give  all their best players to this side, as and when they were required.
The local clubs are bagged for a team that consistently fires blanks at a higher level.
I understand that Taranaki Clubs are not happy with this arrangement  and have not been forthe past three seasons. Take control you guys. How does Wellington support so many good club sides??? Ask yourselves??
Those of you old enough will remember the Old Central league Taranaki Club sides, such as New Plymouth Old Boys, Moturoa and Central, that were always very competitive  and never gave visiting sides an easy ride when they visited New Plymouth.
Having watched this side over the past two seasons and being objective, i believe the blame for this bunch of underacheivers belongs fairly and squarely  with the Team Taranaki Management Team. How could this side fail to fire with such a good backing...
Take a look at the resuurgence of Manchester City this year, in the Premier League, a good Manager can make all the difference. Just ask the Pheonix??!!

So come on you Taranaki Clubs, where iis your mana, get behind your own clubs and forget these dreamers.

Make us Naki Fans proud again...

signed
Friends of Roddy Grant.
Andy Irvine was a good coach and motivator for this side and is obviously missed.
The players this year have had no real focus.

Hilton Cup Winners
Premier League Champions
Playoff Winners
Ivan England Champions

A great season for the blue and whites!

I have been waiting for those who called us "chokers" to admit they were wrong - very wrong.

It has been a week now and nothing... you know who you are... be man (or woman) enough and post a retraction...

m8 well done petone totally deserving! but remember you did choke in 05 and 06 so don't go there. as they say it takes a team to lose a few of the big games to know how to win one! that is the case here petone are now a well drilled, experienced team with 3 or 4 g8 youngsters adding the flare missing in previous years. be gd 2 see the old lower hutt v petone derbys again, maybe fozzie mite start playing himself again for 90???

2005 finished 2nd in the league to a (then) reasonable Stop Out side, and 2006 lost on penalties in first playoff... Neither of which are choking.

Chelsea finished 2nd. Did they choke? No

West lost the chatham Cup final on penalties. Did they choke? No

So why did people label Petone??

Dont think your that good to label yourself with the other clubs mentioned.

StopOut are still a reasonable side by the way. Wait and see how you go in your first year in the CL before you start to bag some of the other local clubs.

Might want to read his post again.  He is not bagging any team.  Just stating some facts that back up his opinion, that Petone ain't chokers.  Spurs crazy2007-09-30 19:57:14

Oh Dear....an armchair critic with no credentials.

You sound like the kind of ex west aucklander, who used to play rugby  league and thinks that qualifies you as a  Football player ????
You know that you have never played central league or even watched a game.
Playing a few sub standard games of wanganui local league, as and when you feel like it, obviously qualifies you to comment on NZ Regional Football.
Wanganui football like Taranaki should be doing a lot better,,,
You have contributed nothing to the game in the Central region...
But you accept all the charity and time given to your own kids by coaches as you stab them in the back.

People like you will never give anything to the game, because all you have ever done is take from the game.
You criticise all wanganui coaches and do nothing yourself...no wonder no one takes you seriously...
The game will only progress on a regional level based on the volunteers, who give their own time to others without expecting recognition or subs, something you would not do.
Is is also relevent to note the standard of A League teams, you  Aucklanders have produced....
Once you realise that you are not playing football on the Te Atatu flats anymore you might come to your senses...jaffa...

If you had taken time to really analyse my email, you would realise that my post was one of encouragement for Taranaki football and clubsides...
Personal insults show you up for who u are.....

How could anyone take you seriously....
When if...or ever.. you give anything to football...that is not venomous or self centred...you may be listened to...but I doubt it...

Go the couch potatoe...remember you can't contribute to anything...sititng in your back shed...firing insults at the unselfish....and crticising good volunteers...

Go back to Opunake and start a soccer club...or jump in the river...your call..

You make me laugh....hahaha..

Reh.......

Tex loves you

you have no opinion on how to help Taranaki football.
This forum was not set up to accommodate personally derogatory opionions.
You obviously can't read..or you would have digested the Forum's rules...

Go ahead and play your mind games...you missed the point and the boat obviously long ago.....

Shame on you ...especially considering you were from opunake...

If you have a point I doubt anyone would listen..

Talk to the hand...

Hey Viking how did the 'Ringies' get dragged into your argument, they have never laid claim to any great contribution to Football.

Face it the Naki just isnt a Footy town, surfing and Rugby are 1st equal everything else is a distant last!
