$$$$ refs making alot of it!

My Question to the yellow fever faithful is this,

Can anyone please find a comparison with

a) how many yellow/red cards have been given out this year?

b) how much $ capital football has made compared to last year

also can one of our esteemed backroom staff please help me set up a poll, in which people can vote on how much $ capital football will collect by the end of the year (kind of like a "guess how many jelly beans are in the jar" kind of thing)

Yellow? Red?

For...wait, 'dissent'?

Second yellow, for dissent. No - STRAIGHT red, AFTER a yellow, for dissent.

I'm done.

Hahaha.

Radioman why does topic state Refs making alot of $$$$, do the refs get a cut of the money surely not, why not ask Mr Palmer why he put the costs of cautions and send off up, don't you think the refs are just doing their job, Ok some are better than others, I 've watched a fair bit of Footy this year,  and not to many of the cards I seen issued haven't been warranted the ocassional one but not many in my view.

If referees in Wellington are anything like those in Palmy/Wanganui, I would suggest that not enough cards are being dealt out.  There are often horrendous tackles that get let go with only a free kick.

Im guessing it was for descent too.

The best way to avoid fines is to play Cap 12 where you dont get refs. Not that I ever got booked anyway. Three yellows in 20 years of football. Most of them with "proper" refs too :-)

Its no longer a problem.

Still... a Cayenne ?  Wouldn't you be worried that someone might see you ?

You can be ostentatious but have some class.

How's my driving? - Whine here

Well, being a ref, naturally I'm blind and clueless.

Plus a weekend in Sydney has topped up my exposure to crass ostentatiousness.

It's hard to get booked when you're not playing. But I'm sure you'll find a way.

how can a player playing capital 1,2,3,4 sometimes even cap 5 afford to pay for these ridiculous fines, how do they justify the prices. (petrol i presume) its all well for central league and capital premier players to pay the fines because it just comes out of their win bonuses at the end end of the season but for these mid table leagues its absolute bullocks getting fined that amount of money for playing hard.

........playing hard mmmm [ kicking the sh*t out of the oppostion ?]......Have watch a lot of lower grade football and have seen the " absolute bullocks" that players get away with.
But agree increasing the fines is just Capital Soccer raising more cash for themselves.

yea but in saying that the lower the grade you get (say cap 3 and 4) the sh*tter the referees get, don't get me wrong i think its great referees give up their time to do it cause i wouldn't want to the problem is the money and how qualified are these refs to charge you 35 bucks or whatever it is for one bad tackle having a run in capital 4.

How can you draw a correltion between the level of amateur football one plays in Wellington and their financial ability to pay for a card?! Is there something I am missing? Are the top players there because they are rich?

I think not.

Moral of the story is be disciplined; don't get carded, and don't blame the referee.
In 16 years of playing soccer the only card I ever received was a yellow card for back chatting to my Dad when he gave my mate a yellow when playing Wellington Reps back in the day.

You'll find that most clubs will pay fines for tackles etc but not for descent for their first teams only. it shouldn't matter what level you play at as to the cost of fines. Admittidly the cost is a bit harsh but the best way to avoid it is to remove any sort of chance of being booked/sent off. Play hard but play fair and keep your mouth shut.
End of.

That is a good point.  The higher the league, the higher the fine should be.  Lower leagues with less competent refs shouldn't pay the same fine.

Having said that Capital Football do have to cover their ever-increasing costs.  And $35 isn't a great deal of money these days.  I just spent half that on lunch at Subway.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.

1. lets get one thing sorted soccer is a contact sport, so hence from time to time your going to mis time tackles thats different from going out onto the field looking for heads and aiming for knee caps, so you should be allowed to get yellow cards - yellow cards are merly a warning if the tackle was that bad you would be sent off, refs are to blame because they give yellow cards for the smallest things like your one back chatting.

2. there is something your missing - Central league and capital league get their cards paid for by their clubs where cap 1,2,3,4,5 the players ahve to pay for their own that is the difference right there its ludicrous.

Interesting points here. I think if a player is booked it's generally down to them making a mistake. Granted some lower league refs don't have much of a clue but so perhaps they should have a staggered rate for the lower leagues. Card prices have increased this season but in general the game is becoming more dirty around Wellington. I went to a game Olympic v Naenae a few weeks ago and the dirty play was despicable, the players only have them selves to blame for the amount of cards shown in that game.
I think clubs probably have the right to petition capital football about the fine rates and I'm sure that they could come to an agreement about a staggered rate. From what I've seen the play gets dirtier to higher up the leagues you go, the lower leagues are more clumsy than vengeful.

As far as I am aware, referees receive no money from fines.

I know they certainly do not in Auckland as the money goes direct to the federation (the federation bills the clubs for misconducts)

I would be 99.9% sure this happens in other federations.

How does the subject line relate to this subject??

1: Fines should not be tiered as suggested. As said above, most 1st team fines are paid for my the club. Also most 1st teams are supported by youth fees. Indirectly, an increase in 1st team fines could see an increase of youth fees. This would be very wrong.

2: If you can't afford it, then don't make the committee a stupid tackle in the first place (or inversely, get some skill about ya) Think about that before you lunge in or gob off. I think the fines are too low anyway and an increase may well discourage foul play. They may help the federations get out of the finacial quogmire most are in with the increased income and reduce the need for fee increases and the ultimate reaction up the vine, get NZF in financial shape because they don't need to bail out federations who are in financial hardship.

Penalise those that have no skill/discipline as opposed to levying kids to get football in financial shape.

Spot on.

Foul play, both ugly late tackles and referee abuse should be taxed like any other disease.
