Watched a women's game at Te Whaea yesterday (16/5). By all accounts pitch has the players approval. Ball runs true- no deviations from mud etc. Once everyone using it gets used to the ball not stopping as it does on grass the players could play footy.
No cuts on any of the players who happened to take a tumble either.
Well done WCC

I played on it yesterday and agree it was brilliant. But not sure about no cuts?! Most of our defenders came off with bleeding knees. No different to real turf at the moment tho!
But definitely great to play on

Just say fire

tay fire

translates as the mother, named after the drama school nearby

Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

Think of it as the ROW - Ring Of Whaea. That might help.

That is a Maori and should respected and shoudl be pronounced with gutso. Correct pronunciation should it be fak-yah?

You might want to check the typo there buddy. Uless you're being tongue-in-cheek in which case, poor form.

According to NZ Dance School, it's "teh fire" also.

Not all Iwi prounounce their vowels and places the same. Some pronounce Wh differently, thus the issue over W(h)anganui naming.

What are the changing rooms like?  Good Showers?
Permalink Permalink
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
But aren't dressing rooms required for Central League matches - or is it just crowd control ropes and ballboys that are necessary?
Permalink Permalink
almost 16 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
Well technically it's no one's home ground, so would those rules apply?
Permalink Permalink

Not bad for what used to be a large carpark.
Could all squeeze into the changing sheds @ Rugby League Park LOL

The changing rooms onsite are the ones from Cobham so I guess that all those luxuries will be available soon

Changing rooms ready in a month or so apparently. The whole thing, changing rooms, carparks, driveway, fences all ready to go for official opening in late July

played there last week and it was amazing, but just wondering why we were cancelled on an all-weather pitch this weekend? i know the council regulate all ground cancellations and this isn't a general moan but i was hoping if someone could clarify anything here?

Pitch is fine - it says on the CF website
Capital Football has tried to make a priority those Grades that were cancelled last week.
This includes 12th Grade Combined Juniors who have already been cancelled twice in a row. Most of their games have been moved to the artificial at Te Whaea.

Also heard though this is completely unsubstantiated that some teams had a whinge about playing at 5pm so they said stuff ya and put the Juniors on there all day. Complete hearsay though

I'm hearing rumours that Tim Brown is helping fund a full size one at Wellington College. To put something back into his old school. Just what I'm hearing, nothing confirmed.simon_hampton2010-05-30 13:09:47

Nope, same size as the old Boyd Wilson. So a training turf at best.

Think you should stop posting your playground rumours on the forum Hampster.

A full sized artificial would be the best thing Wellington College could do, absolute no-brainer

Fixed.

When I was running WC's Academy Grant Stephens, father of the 1st XI captain at the time, and Dave Keat, Sports Director at the school, were actively looking into it, but the school's funding priority was a new school hall (understandable when the current one doesn't fit the school in it).

If Browny is in a position to tip some money in then awesome, but you're looking at a cost of about $2.5m to do it properly.

$2.5mill seems hefty, hasn't cost WCC that much?

If you could get both the football and rugby communities at Well Coll behind it finding the money wouldn't be to much of an issue I dont think.

My understanding is that they are trialing the without shock pad option here, as Nairnville does have one and then quite possibly the other ones they build will not have shock pads.

Yeah they still don't have the money for the hall yet either (and the f**kwits who smashed the memorial window will have taken a fair chunk out of the fundraising piggy bank).

It'd be damned cool, and very helpful. There haven't been any specific fundraising events for it either so I have my doubts. But there are strong rumours.simon_hampton2010-05-31 16:08:59
