Playing for Petone reserves at Farrington Field (then Centennial Park) and our full back got in a pushing match with the Wgtn Coll (playing as Miramar ressies) winger. Our full back pushed him to the ground and proceded to punch the crap out of him. Prob got in a dozen good hits. This was just outside my pen box and the opposition keeper was in there with his gloves off before me. No comment on who that keeper was but it was before his pink shirt days. Our full back was suspended for 4 games by CF but the club banned him for the rest of the season. Never saw him again at the club.

Incredible stamina. No shame. Yellow Fever.
Remember 2 Blackburn players doing the same thing in a Champions League game against Spartak Moscow in the mid-1990s. Think Graeme Le Saux was one of them, can't remember now who the other guy was.
Think it was Micheles knee but yea was very awful. I was playing and regrettably was pleading with the ref to award us a peno for the keeper taking Michele out... while Dave lay on the ground in a pool of blood and teeth... Woops didnt realise I swear.
Apparently I'm apathetic, but I couldn't care less.

fuah692009-07-31 21:36:44I think I was down to ref that one - but got a late transfer - thank goodness!!.
Similar off the ball shenanigans between Marist and Brooklyn that season, in another unofficiated game. I watched 20 mins of that one, before hedaing off to my 2:30 - heard about it later in the week.
Beware the Masters 1 where the Brooklyn player in question has moved to!! :)
When Hibs, went up, to win the Scottish Cup - I wisnae there - furfuxake!

Happened recently in Canada. Two players from Vancouver Whitecaps FC. Charles Gbeke and the now-released Wesley Charles.

I asked the BNU player after the game what he had said and he replied "I said nothing" he's an honest lad and i believe him. The IB player in question is 20+ years older than the BNU player and I don't believe anyone in capital football grades would be capable of intimidating him as he certainly knows how to look after himself. I just think he mis read the intention of the tackle and thought it was a deliberate foul and due to the fact he was playing against his old club, was 1-0 down and it was late in the game he lost it. To his credit he apologised to me after the game for his actions which shows the guy has a fair bit of bollox to him as alot of people would skulk away and hide.
No.
A reckless tackle from any direction is a cautionable offence, if a tackle is made from behind, which wins the balls is done in a safe way, then there is no foul or caution

You stand corrected - you're wrong.
Used to be in the rule book - but hasn't been for a while. Illegal tackles, and typical sanctions are broken down into careless - direct free kick, reckless - direct free kick and caution, dangerous/excessive force/serious foul play - free kick and send off, regardless for direction of tackle.
The only guidance on automatic red cards in the laws of the Game are as follows
Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct
Decision 4
A tackle, which endangers the safety of an opponent, must be sanctioned
as serious foul play. (ie Red card)
So if a player from behind manages to slide in from behind, and a bit to the side, and plays the ball cleanly then no free kick or sanction.
But if he comes in with a two footed tackle, directly from behind taking the player out - free kick a straight red.
Another reminder here though, on a more general topic, that the defence 'I got the ball' is not a valid one. If in the opinion of the referee the tackle was careless, then expect a free kick to be given against you, or cards to be shown if worse.

They just happen to forget that the trailing leg and the rest of them cleaned up the player. It's as if the rest of their body is irrelevant in the tackle. it's a worry people still don't know the rules. There are that many!

Best one ever was from someone on the sideline at a game up here "It's a non-contact sport". WTF! Do me a favour!
