On another brilliant sunny windless day in Upper Hutt, the
once great Wallaceville Utd took on the newly formed Wellington Cambodia.
With Ron Ung marshalling his troops from the back, and
Wallaceville at their disorganised best, it was a surprise that it took
15 mins before the first goal was scored. The impressive non-Cambodian Paul got
the rout under way and it was the same player who doubled the lead 5 mins later.
Cambodia added a third before the evergreen, always positive Andy Cochrane turned
his man at the top of the penalty area and toe poked a reply right on half
time.
After a stirring team talk at the interval, Wallaceville
did exactly the opposite to what was discussed and conceded 4 goals in 10
minutes, 2 to Ron and 2 to Sian. At 7.1 down Wallaceville lost all shape, cohesion
and spirit and were lucky to concede only 3 more goals before the end.
In
between the gluttony of goals, Andy Cochrane managed to miss Wallaceville's
6th consecutive penalty, and No13 of Cambodia was booked for twice
kicking the ball away after the whistle had blown.
Steve Cochrane had an outstanding game for Walllaceville,
while Ron and Sian controlled the Cambodian play well.

Sunday Blazers-:-Friendly game between Wallaceville and Porirua Cryovac at Heretaunga College 1pm start.
After a referee muck around the first preliminary cup game
got under way on a wet and windy Heretaunga College pitch. The 10 man
Wallaceville United played with spirit and gusto throughout and one does wonder
if the ongoing absent Jason Stone would have made a difference.
In fact Wallaceville scored first, although technically
Shamrocks scored it with an impressive 25 yard shot that skidded past an out of
position Bart. Now behind, Rusty took the first half by the scruff of the neck
and had a hand in two goals and headed in a fine third.
3.1 at the break meant Wallaceville weren`t out of it but 60
seconds into the second half they were. A soft goal that Wallaceville had three
goes at clearing, put the result beyond doubt. A steady stream of goals
followed before Wallaceville changed a few personnel in positions and finished
with a flurry.
First captain Phil, who never gave up, chased a hopeless
cause, caused a defender error, and calmly rounded the keeper to slot home. The
last hurrah fell to the evergreen Andy Cochrane who got onto a beautiful Phil
cross to shoot firstly against the post, then smashed the rebound past the
hapless David in the Shamrocks goal.
The games only sour point came on the hour mark where the
impressive Brian of Shamrocks took offence at the line of running of Jess of
Wallaceville and lashed out. Jess pushed back before Brian started getting
verbal as well. This nearly started an all in melee. After calming everybody
down Brian and Jess were both yellow carded with Brian coming within a whisker
of being sent off.
No details of Goal scorers and times due to the weather conditions.
The game was played in great spirits between both teams, Trentham scoring first not long after the kick off however Porirua dominated the majority of position and controlled the game from then onwards with their short passing game. Trentham was quick to counter attack but most of the attack was cancelled out by the Porirua central defenders.
Both teams were a pleasure to ref, with no cards given.
Sunday 1st August
Tuskan Raiders vs Sunday Blazers - Rongotai College
Result 4-1 to Tuskan Raiders
After some tooing and throwing between various pitches we eventually settled at Rongatai College to complete this fixture. The ground turned out to be pretty sturdy as no one slipped over until at least 10 minutes in.
Both teams started well and were passing well around the midfield in some very wet and windy conditions. But, The Raiders fell in front of goal on a number of occasions and eventually took the lead despite some great efforts from the Blazers goalkeeper. Another two goals came from some solid play by the Raiders forwards. One being a clever through ball that allowed a speedy striker a clean run on goal and the other came from some fearsome battling in the box to force a ball across goal into the path of an eager Raiders teammate.
Albeit 3-0 down in the first half the Blazers were not giving up so easily. They continued to play some impressive link up play in the middle of the field and it seemed to be working as they came close to scoring several times. Some handy work from the goalkeeper and a few stray shots left them behind for most of the first half. The Raiders were not sitting back either, they too pushed towards scoring a few more and to the grave disappointment of the Blazers were handed a goal from a miss kick that lobbed the keeper. The Blazers had scored, but unfortunately into their own net. 4-0
The game appeared to be rapped up. However, the Blazers could not go home without some consolation. They pulled one back from a corner that eventually fell neatly to a player that was not about to let the opportunity go begging. A sweetly hit shot made it 4-1 and the final whistle came shortly after.

For the second week in a row I had the pleasure of reffing
an eclectic game of football with Wallaceville United. In fact every game with Wallaceville
has a touch of eccentricity about it, I think its their playing staff.
However, they always turn up, this bunch of bogans, metalheads, musicians and
Cochranes and give their all to the final whistle. For that they deserve
credit.
It took 35mins before Porirua forced their first goal, a looping header after a goalmouth scramble after a corner. Ox added a thunderous second after a well worked 1-2 move but the goal of the game was the third right on halftime. Colin for Porirua (55) strode forward from the back, played two 1-2s and then sent in a superb cross for Rodney to power a header past Cochrane number 5 in the Wallies goal.
With only 10 men Wallaceville were always going to be up
against it, but the addition of extra player after the break did even up the
game. Unfortunately Porirua's Rodney was on fire and collected himself a
hattrick so the result was never in any real doubt. A cameo striker role
for Mike out of Poriruas goal was entertaining and he himself was unlucky not
to notch a goal, firstly being denied by colourful goalkeeping and later
denied by the crossbar.
Jordan Cochrane played strongly for Wallaceville as did
father Steve, and Con was excellent for Porirua and Shane's defence steadfast. A
game played in excellent spirit was a joy to ref. Football the winner.
After turning up at 12:30 to find no one there I thought I had got the draw or location wrong however both teams appeared to forget kick off was at 1pm.
The game finally started at 1:15pm with both sides struggling with the cross winds. The Cambodians scored first after 18 minutes quickly followed by a Shamrocks goal 1 minute later.
Shamrocks went ahead after 25 Minutes however the Cambodians equalised 1 minute before half time.
Both teams had a goal disallowed in the first 20 minutes, Shamrocks had a great shot that hit the bar and went straight down, Shamrocks players claiming it had gone over the line, however I could not confirm whether in fact it went over the line or not. The Cambodians have one disallowed due to the goal scorer being offside only a meter in front of goal.
Wellington Cambodia scored 23 minutes into the second half followed by another 12 minutes later which is how the score stayed.
While the final result was 4-2 to Wellington Cambodia, Shamrocks appears to be the more dominant team with most of the Cambodians goals coming from Counter attack.
No cards awarded, and again a pleasure to ref a game involving Shamrocks with them owning up to when balls went out etc.
Wow. resurgence of Trentham, decline of Blazers, or a bit of both?

-15 Another brilliant calm day met Trentham United and Sunday Blazers at Memorial Park only for them to have to wait an extra fifteen minutes for the ref to arrive because no one in organisation control thought to inform the referee of the kick off time change. Ironic seeing as though just two weeks ago we got an email enforcing the fact that games have to kick off on time.
Once the game got under way it was a hugely competitive
fixture, to the point that the first yellow card was handed out to Chris of
Blazers within five minutes for a scything foul on Matt Henderson. There was a
flurry of niggly fouls in the next ten minutes which made the ref
have to stop the game and warn all players to calm down and play football.
This warning seemed to work, well for Blazers anyway, for they started the scoring with a thundering 25yard shot from veteran left back Con which nearly went through the Trentham net. Trentham were not their usual self and conceded a second to Lucas, and then a third to a rampaging Fraser who was allowed to carry the ball from near half way before beating Trenthams replacement keeper Tom at the near post.
This fired Trentham up and for the next ten minutes dominated Blazers. Their blonde dreaded import dictated play in the midfield and was causing trouble for Blazers regularly. Trentham got on the scoreboard just before halftime through hard working Adam in midfield. A well struck corner from Paul Bates was only half cleared and when it fell to Adam, off balance he managed to skilfully volley the ball home.
The second half didnt start well for Trentham, and due to a couple of silly errors allowed John of Blazers to run through, jink past the keeper and slot home to take them out to 4.1. For the next twenty minutes there were half chances for both sides but it wasnt until mid way through the half that another goal was scored.
A great cross field ball found Rick Cussin at the far post and he skillfully turned inside his marker and slotted home. Trentham then had a penalty awarded for a high boot but Paul Bates blotted his all round good game by clipping his penalty on top of the cross bar. There was just enough time left for Patricio of Blazers to get himself booked for repeated late infringing while tackling. From the resulting free kick, Trentham worked a good move ending with a Bates drive straight at the keeper.
Blazers were good for their victory, they started the better side, looked a wee bit more composed on the ball and Trentham were made to pay for their slow start. Maybe the time change affected their preperations. Final score Trentham Utd 2 Sunday Blazers 4The game was transferred to a dodgy looking Ngatitoa, the center circle looking and smelling like the local tip, with a 2pm kick off.
The game started with Wallaceville opening the scoring after only 7 minutes. Both the Porirua keeper and Wallaceville attacker miss judging the cross, the ball landing at the feet of another Wallaceville attacker who simply had to tap the ball in from a metre out.
Porirua equalised after a penalty on the 39th Minute when a Porirua player was brought down from behind by a Wallaceville defender which also produced the first yellow card of the game.
The second half brought much of the same end to end football. However Wallaceville went ahead again 17 minutes into the second half when the Porirua right back gave away free kick from a hand ball just outside the box. While Porirua were deciding how to defend the free kick, Andy? from Wallaceville quickly placed the ball on the spot and put the ball into the back of the net.
Porirua equalised again with 20 minutes to go after some great work down in defence by the Porriua right back, turning defence into attack down the right. The Porirua right defender possibly being the best on the ground today.
It was a great game to ref with 2 friendly teams, the highlight was a Wallaceville player trying to say a Porirua player should be yellow carded because he tried to do a hand ball.
2 Yellow cards
Wallaceville number 2 for tackle from behind.
Con from Porirua for deliberately trying to slow down a freekick.
Cheers
Steve
Then there will be the last round of Division A, the Cup and Plate semi Finals, The Cup and Plate Finals and the Tuskan vs Porirua catchup game and all will be done.

5Just missed my 20 goal mark though :(
In the early plate final between the 2 Porirua's, Cryovac went ahead, playing with the wind, with 2 early goals to lead at half time. With change of direction at half time the advantage swung Porirua's way with a goal after 10 minutes to get them back in the game. Another goal soon after had the scores level and Porirua were applying all the pressure while Cryovac were relying on fast breaks. This tactic paid off with about 10 to go when some sharp finishing gave them the lead again. The pressure was all on the Cryovac defence with their very experienced Goalkeeper pulling off 2 match winning saves within seconds of each other to save the result and the Plate Trophy. Congratulations for an impressive first season in the WSFL.
In the Cup Final, a repeat of last years, Marauders and Tuskan Raiders played an entertaining match with Marauders having the tail wind advantage in the first half and going 1-0 up after 20 minutes. A ripper of a shot was parried by the Raiders keeper and a Marauders striker was on hand to finish the loose ball.
Raiders were slightly better than Marauders being stronger and more decisive with the ball but Marauders were quick and skillful and always looked dangerous on the breaks.
Raiders defence was good and at the breakdown were quick to setup play through the midfeild.
It was a good even first half with Raiders having a slight advantage but Marauders getting the ball where it counts.
In the second half Raiders used the wind and continued to dominate increasing pressure on the Marauders defence until finally Justice broke through the Marauders defence and beat the keeper to a 50/50 ball to lob home the equaliser after 25 minutes.
The Marauders team appeared disorganised and were frustrated by poor decision making when in possession. They were relying on fast breaks to keep them in the game but were getting caught out of position allowing Raiders to put the defence under more pressure with a number of dangerous Raider corners not quite find the net.
Time was running out for Marauders when Justice lost the plot and was sent from the field. Marauders couldn't capitalise on the extra player and the game was finally wrapped up in the dying minutes of the game when a free kick was awarded about 25 metres from the Marauders goal.
The well driven kick took a wee deflection from a defender and spilled into the goal from the keepers attempted save. 2-1 to the League winners who held on til the final whistle to also win the Cup and seal a rare WSFL League and Cup double.
The final game of the season will be played at Waihora Park between Raiders and Porirua to complete the League competition.
