Trentham United vs Tuskan Raiders Report

After a dominant start and sustained pressure Tuskan Raiders finally got their season on the way with a soft goal in the 20th minute. 5 minutes it was 2.0 with a fantastic strike from the edge of the area giving Trentham keeper no chance. Trentham reduced the deficit  by 1 just before halftime with Matt beating three defenders on the dribble before toe poking past the keeper at the near post.

An exciting 2nd half got underway with Trentham not only equalising  through Ron volleying home a mish*t shot, then Ron again converting with his right foot after good work down the right by Ritchie, Mark and Paul to take the lead 3.2.

Tuskan rallied after going behind and equalised fortuitously, then went ahead when Tom in the Trentham goal could only parry a free kick that deflected off the wall into the goal. With 5 minutes to go Tuskan added a fifth when two Trentham defenders missed the ball completely in the area and Tuskan tucked the chance away.

The game ended with Keith being booked for a foul challenge on Justice, Tuskans best player, before a melee right on the final whistle soured the day.

Final score:  Trentham United 3 (Ron 2, Matt)  Tuskan Raiders 5 ( Matt Holland, Seth, Justice, Arlo, unknown)

                         Yellow Card  Keith Trentham United

I turned up to play for Shamrocks, as i did at the end of last seaosn, and they had 16- Wallaceville had 11, one of whom was rotten hungover so i obliged by helping them out- and yes, i left some tape on the sideline,

Sorry Griff, Rongotai, Papatuanuku et al

Marauders vs Tuskan Raiders

On an extremely wide Upper Hutt College pitch, the two form teams of the
competition met on a warm calm day. Marauders got going quicker than the
boys from Wellington and took the lead in the 25th minute. Mark doubled the
lead in the 30th minute and five minutes later it was 3.0. Tim expertly
volleying home from a half cleared corner.

In the 40th minute the game was gone from Tuskan after Justice was
dismissed. He had won a free kick but retaliated towards the player who
conceded the free kick. I then intervened and issued him a yellow card for
the retaliation and instructed him to calm down. Justice then abused me,
said it was all bullsh*t and after I gave him a final warning to calm down
he then pushed me in the chest and attempted to grab me round the neck.

It was at this point that I red carded him and he was lead from the field by
Tuskan players. The captain of Tuskan, Stan,  commended me for the way I
handled the situation and praised me for giving him enough warnings and
chances to calm down.

Tuskan Raiders played excellently in the second half and scored what turned
out to be only a consolation goal in the 80th minute by their Soviet winger.

Final score:  Marauders  3  Tuskan Raiders 1
Half time:  Marauders  3  Tuskan Raiders  0

Yellow Card:  Justice - Tuskan Raiders
Red Card:  Justice - Tuskan Raiders

Pushing a ref should be a ban-poor form in the supposedly social sunday league

You must be getting soft Mr Salmon. The Sunday League has never been social, just like cap 9. I noticed you being very unsocial on the weekend!  only 1-0.

If i remember rightly Marauders did the same thing last season- snatching a late goal agsint the Blazers to steal a share of the points- the hairy folk should learn to hold a lead!  I saw the 8th minute goal- a crisply taken low shot from the edge of the box from on of the SB's South Americans after some navel gazing in the Marauders goal-

Rongotai College Field is a dust bowl btw

Match Report Trentham United vs Wellington Indianz

After briefing both teams about what the Sunday League was about, and what behaviour and conduct is expected, Wellington Indians kicked off on a calm sunny Mothers Day at Awakairangi Park.

Wellington Indians controlled all the early play with sharp intricate passing and good ball movement. They did however not create too much trouble in the Trentham penalty area and settled for shooting, often wayward, from distance.

In the 15th minute and against the run of play,  Rich beat  the Wellington Indians keeper to a cross to head home. 2 minutes later and Ron did exactly the same thing again to double Trenthams lead. Matt Henderson then took it upon himself to beat 4 Indian defenders before beating the keeper at the near post with a cool finish. Matt repeated his run just on half time but this time drew the keeper before squaring the ball to Ron, who with an open goal, and all the time in the world, managed to somehow conjure up the miss of the season. In true Ron style, it was Matts, the sun, the pitch, the refs and anyone within 20 yards fault.

3.0 at halftime flattered the Trentham boys and I was expecting the Wellington Indians to come out in the second half and try get back into the game. However, this did not happen. Steve headed home from a well taken Ron corner, Rich and Matt both completed hattricks,  in between Wellington Indians scoring two well constructed goals by their left midfielder/striker  (No9), before one of Trenthams unsung heroes and unlikely goalscorers, Carey, raced clear to slot in goal number 9. Carey actually had the chance to repeat the dose but whereas he slotted his first opportunity calmly he tried to blast his second and the keeper made an outstanding reflex save.

The last 20 minutes of the game the Indians had chucked the towel in and continually asked how long was left. For all of that they continued to pass the ball around well but just lacked penetration in attack. This was due mainly to holding onto the last pass for too long, and well marshalled defence by Keith of Trentham who certainly has found his niche in the  heart of the defence.

The full time whistle was relief for Wellington Indians, who contributed greatly to the game with absolutely no incident or animosity. Their captain and a few of their ball players complimented me on my refereeing and had a number of negative comments about their last weeks referee. I complimented them on their attitude and behaviour and we all agreed that ``Football is a Beautiful Game and Football was the Winner`

Porirua Club V Sunday Blazers

Porirua 5 Blazers 2

Played hard but in good spirits, the 2 teams were a closer match than the score shows. Porirua just made more of the chances that they had.
1st goal scored after a shot from Chop, saved by the keeper but rebounded into the path of Rosco only a few meters out with an open goal after 18 minutes.

Match Report - Trentham United vs Wallaceville United

On a calm but grey day at Heretaunga College the Upper Valley derby between the two United teams attracted a crowd of about 50 supporters and onlookers for what was a hugely anticipated battle.

Trentham United kicked off and followed on from their excellent performance against Wellington Indians by passing the ball accurately and with good vision. Trentham have settled into a good team pattern these days and are a match for everyone in the league. Although not creating any clear cut chances they were certainly dominating possession and territory.

Wallaceville United looked dangerous on the counter attack but were playing a very dangerous game of offside traps in defence. This tactic worked in their favour up until the 20th minute mark . Matt Henderson motored his way down the right hand side then after drawing the defence pulled the ball back to the top of the box for Steve to drive into the bottom left corner.

5 minutes later an excellent through ball from Rich split the Wallaceville defence and Jody showed great composure to round the keeper before slotting into an empty net.

Jason Stone took it upon himself to get Wallaceville back into the game with a 20 yard strike but with a minute to go to half time Andy Cochrane in the Wallaceville goal had a shocker. After punting the ball downfield, it was returned in a similar fashion. Andy let the ball bounce over him, he then did a 360 degree turn, let it bounce again, and Matt Henderson had anticipated something for when the ball came down again it was he and not Andy who controlled it. Matt couldnt believe his luck, and after making a better angle for himself, slotted home. Halftime 3.1 to Trentham.

To Wallaceville's credit the came out in the second half with some fight but the offside trap was now getting beaten easily by the wide players and goals at regular intervals from Daniel(2) and Matt killed this game.

In the last 15 minutes their was still time for Tom to miss a penalty for Wallaceville, and for Matt Henderson to get yellow carded for a late sliding challenge on a flying Jason Stone.

Shamrocks 6 Wallaceville 1

While the score makes the game look one sided, Wallaceville had plenty of the ball however a solid defence managed to keep Wallaceville out.
Scoring started in the second minute to Stefano from a free kick, well struck into the top corner. The play was pretty even from that point up intil a double from Dino in the 29th and 31st minute leading to a 3-0 half time score.
The game went from end to end until Ash scored for Shamrocks in the 69th minute follwed by a well deserved goal to Carl who scored Wallacevilles only goal 1 minute later.
Imiesta scored in the 75th minture followed by Ash who also scored his second 10 minutes later.

1 yellow card to Number 10 from Wallaceville for backchat.

1 Missed penalty by Rusty from Shamrocks, unfortunately for Rusty he put the ball into the back of the net however Ash entered the box before the penalty was taken resulting in a free kick to Wallaceville.

Special mention to the great sportsmanship shown to by Rusty throughout the game, attitudes like his make it far easier to ref games.

Arakura vs Trentham

On a heavy Awakairangi pitch Arakura started very well, knocking the ball around with ease and creating trouble  around the Trentham area. It was totally against the run of play that Trentham took the lead. From a poor clearance from a corner, Steve drove the ball back into the penalty area, and Matt Henderson toe poked it thru the keepers legs to go 1.0 up.

Arakura continued playing their way and fully deserved their equaliser on the 20  min mark. Jackyo doing the honours after good all round teamwork. A clever turn at the top of the box from Jun, and a cool finish put Arakura 2.1 up with 10 left in the half, but Matt Henderson did likewise, after a goalie fumble for Trenthams cause so the teams went in all square.

A series of rash, late and over zealous challenges led me to issue a warning to all players that it will not be tolerated and the next foul commited would see that player carded. The next foul did not result in a card, but instead a second for Jun, who struck a beautiful 30 yard free kick into the bottom corner of Trentham goal.

At 3.2 in Arakuras favour I thought that Trentham would be put to the sword, but instead a rash challenge in the area gave Rick the opportunity to put Trentham level, which he did easily. William of Arakura was booked for his effort.

The next goal had a hint of controversy about it, due to Arakura's complacency. Arakura's captain Terry yells out in pain while clearing the ball, completely unopposed and even though Arakura twice had the  chance to kick the ball out so he could receive treatment, didnt, and when Trentham got possession put a ball into the penalty area which Matt Henderson beat both goalkeeper and defender  to knee home. Arakura players felt play should have been stopped, I explained that they should have kicked it out, that it wasnt a serious head injury, that it wasnt an injury caused by another player and Ive played it according to FIFA rules.

Five minutes later Henderson put the game safe for Trentham, chasing a long ball, holding off a defender, riding the late foul challenge. Before chipping the keeper for his fourth and Trenthams fifth.

The last  five minutes Arakura threw everything at Trentham but a series of good defending, luck, and wayward shooting made no change to the final score, 5.3 to Trentham.

After the game Terry approached me insisting I shouldve stopped play, I re explained why I didnt, he disagreed, saying it was a serious injury, an injury he had started the game with and I fully stand by my decision. He then condescendingly said Id reffed well and that the game is all over now so it doesn`t matter. Well if it didn`t matter why did he feel he had to revisit with me after the game. I was not impressed by someone who definetly should know better.

Yes it would be nice. Hopefully someone was paying attention during the game and can jot down some thoughts.
