Oi... if the Trentham goal difference was 2 last week, howcome todays high quality win still leaves them with a 2 goal difference ?

My unavailability following yesterdays run at Bishop in Eastbourne (a new nomination for the 2nd worst pitch in Wellington ?) evened it out.

A hole in the spreadsheet. +4 goal difference is really gonna shoot you up the table. I see your team is still winning when you don't play!

Hey Hey A blazer replies-

the yellow and Brown kit was ordered to exact specifications while a team member was in India-
The Blazers are on a bit of a slump but are one of the most passionate and interesting teams in the league- Who else does tai chi or yoga before the game or has homemade yellow and brown corner flags and a green bull horn for the coach to yell instructions?- the Blazers love their footie and love to take the mickey but have alays been there or thereabouts- and yes Sportzone we did lose on penalties in last years final but that was a cracking game!
by the way we played Porirua on the weekend and they were very restrained, almonst polite- what a difference. Did you talk to them Tony?

Does Porirua Club usualy win this league?
Permalink Permalink
over 18 years ago · edited over 13 years ago
The only thing I heard from Porirua was the score from Royston.
Porirua usually win the league but it's pretty competitive this season. The scores  have been much closer then the previous 3 years I've been involved. Porirua would be the most consistent team and generally want to win a lot more passionately than the others and generally do but they have probably been around the longest of the teams.

Porirua are cetainly the most up for it, and the most consistent- it is always a mentally and physically tough game against them- we have alot of respect for them but given the skill and fitness the posses we wonder if they need to resort to some of theri more underhand tactics- anyway liek i said they were very fair last Sunday and won 3-0.

After winning the league and cup double three seasons ago they have gone strangely out of form in the Cup- the most consistent team in the cup would be Blazers and Arakura surely?

The Salmon (Mid Table Div 8) have started a regular friendly fixutre against the Sunday Blazers (Toppish Sunday LEague) and the Salmon are consitently better.

We played the Naenae Masters 2 side pre-season, they had a couple from the clubs higher sides and  a full strength side for the only time this season.  We were missing a few.  We lost 2-0 but it was pretty close (if only the rest of the season was going that well for my Naenae side).

I suspect Porirua might manage a bit higher and Tuskan and Arakura's levels depend on who they have as ring-ins on a daily basis.

Yeah- like i said on my previous post Porirua are definiltey up for it- they could compete up to Div 4 i reckon, but if they got a real ref and linesmen then they'd be in trouble- Davy hads a habit of elbowing defenders in the head.

Raiders, im sorry to say, are very poor this year- We beat them by one goal in our second game but the wind was atrocious and it was a comical finish- 5 goals in ten minutes.

Arakura? Their nippy Costa Ricans would be alright if they stayed on their feet

It is really good this year that Trentham and Shamrocks are challenging hard, and even Justice league have found form- the cup should be interesting

We're hoping that (like last year) everyone defaults and we win the plate.

Tuskan killed us last week.  We were holding on for 60-70 minutes but it really was just holding on.  Based on possession, stats and shots it was a travesty that we lead 1-0 at the half, they were a completely different side to the one we played at the Velodrome.

League Leaders Porirua cruised to an 8-2 win over 7th placed Justice League in the latest round of the Wellington Sunday Football League.

The interest was in the game between 2nd and 3rd with Shamrocks bouncing back from a draw last week with Blazers to beat Trentham United 3-1. Sunday Blazers had a tight game over bottom placed Wallaceville united but managed to maintain the lead winning 4-3. Arakura struggled at Tuskan Raiders home ground and couldnt find any reason to celebrate in the second half, eventually losing 6-2 after the score was 2-2 at half time.

With 2 rounds to go the league winners are already decided with a great battle going on for 2nd place with only 3 points between the next 5 teams.

Next weekends games will kick off at 11:30 so Teams can get to the Phoenix match at Newtown Park.

Blazers VS Wallaceville- a comedic game of vaudevillian proportions

Blazers only had 10 players to start with, picked up two injuries in the first half and finished with 8 players vs Wallies' XI,  both sides had enough chances to blow out the scoreline.

Comedy moment was in the first half. Wallies played the off side trap to no avail leaving 3 blazers baring down on the keeper. Two of the blazers then managed to butcher the goal from  2 yards out- d'oh

is 11.30 early enough for everyone to get to the Phoenix game? 11.00 perhaps Tony?

I was wondering how that scoreline came about, was worried Wallaceville had stacked the team or something (not that that ever happens in Sunday league).

Or it could all come down to next Sunday between Blazers and Trentham...  with our luck the Phoenix will win this Friday and be at home so we'll both have to miss it

What happened yesterday?

2.5 teams out of 4 turned up at Rongotai to play...

Where was Porirua and the rest of Arakura?

We ended up playing a friendly:

Shamakura 3- Blazers 2
