If Smithy doesn't like it he can stay out of it. Not his business.

It was just a bit of sarcasm on his part, likening your words of wisdom and insight to something the great one might say.

I mean sarcasm can be funny Stefan..as you get older this is often the only humour you end up with...I mean surely you can see the funny side of Jose saying "Hey guys..watch the ones in the green boots"

I think you're all just reading too much into it.  Max offered some coaching comments so Smithy tragged him as new Mourinho because, you know, Mourinho is a coach.

Dammit...I told my sides never to dominate midfield and I was always concerned about the guys in white boots not green ones..no wonder I was a failure.

Maybe I should read into comments too much from now on too.
f**k my life and how I take things at face value.

Hugo knows nothing.  He says we need to only cover the guys in WHITE boots.

The refs have been great in this grade all season.  And so has the attitude of all the teams.  No rubbish - just players, coaches and supporters getting on with the game.  Much more enjoyable than many of the grades I see.

They really haven't.  We've had at least 4 games where the refs have been abysmal.  We've conceded numerous off-side goals this season which weren't picked up on and we've been let away with stuff we never should have as well.  We lost 6-0 on the w/e and while we were certainly the worse team on the day two or three of their goals were questionable.  And last time we played that team (Island Bay) we won 4-2 and their players back-chatted to the neutral ref first and the whole game he was out to get them even though we were almost as bad at times.  So much inconsistency.

I think that the team stacking for U19's had something to do with that LG.

U21 B doesn't even get refs any more, or at least our team doesn't.

doesnt this league just use up grounds and refs for players who have already played on Saturday from leagues with players who haven't?

You're absolutely right Feverish.  Unfortunately.  The U21 league is all about providing a stepping stone for junior players into senior football.  But many of the players we play against are already playing successfully in senior football.  And we're playing U21 B grade.  So all they do is make it hard for the 'true' U21 players to improve and feel good about themselves.  The end result is that some of them will probably get scared off the game for when senior football is the only option for them.

Im not sure if U21-A ended up playing but we got a game despite Capital Football saying we weren't having one.
We played City, in what was probably our most fun game of the season. Absolute pisstake for us. We ended up swapping the whole team around.. Defenders up front, strikers and midfield at the back. Ended up winning 2-0.
Only bad bit was our guy who went over and broke his collar bone late in the second half.. He will miss U19's now it seems too. Pretty gutting for him and the club.

I'm blaming you for breaking him Stefan, 50 pushups now

Any (good) U19 strikers keen on playing in Napier (now that I need an extra one), let me know?

Apologies if my comments were taken the wrong way.
In no way am I trying to detract from the other team and their effort on Sunday. They did well and made it a tough win for us.

I am not trying to reflect on the club badly.
In fact, after training with 4 clubs in now 3 years I think I have found my permanent club (Unless europe calls me) And I respect the way that the club has accommodated the U21 teams and I hope that the club keeps this up, hopefully with my help.
I have a lot of time for the club, players and coaches and didn't mean to offend anyone from the club.

I know this is an old comment but i disagree with this entirely. You say this league is about providing a stepping stone, yet then claim its 'too hard' when players come up against those already playing in senior level? How do you expect them to otherwise make this step towards senior football? The only other way is to play in a squad that are 100% senior, in a league thats 100% senior. From what ive seen from U21s most squads are about a 50/50 mix (Wests have had even less seniors and have still done quite well). If players are getting scared away from U21 for the reason youve outlined, then theyre never going to be ready for senior football.

You're probably right that some of these players will never make senior football. But they certainly won't make Capital 1 or better.

So having players in U21 who are already capable of playing at that level is just silly for everyone. Many of the U21 players are only 18 so there is plenty of time for them to mature to give them a chance of having the confidence to play lower grade senior football later.

The grade is much more balanced this season though. However, it could be better supported by more clubs. Where have all those 'average' juniors gone?

If there are players out there that are finding U21s too hard yet still wish to play senior football one day, they'd surely quit after their first season of senior football. Even at a level like Cap 5, 8 of those 10 teams would dismantle any U21 side with relative ease. We have players in our side who play Cap 1 regularly, and you will find instances of this in every grade from Cap 5 upwards. May as well get used to it in U21s while youre there
