Why dont some people go back to the home clubbies after games?

Was down at KP before - and the fabuluous Turtles were in there having a bevie and yarn. However one Karori team who seem to be particularly anti-social werent in there, and there was a couple from BNU. Meanwhile, the Mar masters side sat in their changing room with some beer they bought themselves - then left! I'm told they dont even go up when they are at Farrington Pk.

Do people actually see going to the clubbies as important these days - or have I just witnessed  the minority?

As a club captain, when it comes to decisions on who plays where, who gets the new kits, etc - you are more likely to favour the club spirited teams. It's what it's all about in my opinion.

definitely-If you are drawn to play on a club's number one ground then you should go in for a token drink or two as a mark of respect, BUT that team should invite you as well.
A few weeks back we played a team that shall remain nameless on Newtown #1- i invited them into the clubrooms before and after the game and they buggered off- if they had spent 30-40 bucks, or 20 mins in the clubrooms it would have made all the difference to my opinion of them

now i just think they are spoilt dummy-spitters cos we salvaged a draw.

If you are invited, go in, they won't bite

I was in your club rooms last week Feverish. I can understand why they dont go in. Dont take this personaly please but as constructive criticism but No beer on tap, soft drink bottles that contained about 5ml of drink, couldnt buy food at half time, seating badly set up.  Maybe when you get that sorted let your players know and they might show up.

Island Bay United never have a problem with this, the clubrooms are always packed after a Saturday line up of games. You have surely seen the minority Greenie. For the record, I think Waterside Karori's clubrooms are immaculate.

Came into town to watch the- Miramar v  Petone  CL game. From observations Miramar feed Petone then they(Petone) proceeded to bring thier own beers up to the club rooms for the aftermatch speak, us Upper Hutt boys would never do that.

It's definately all about going into the clubrooms after the game. If we are away, go in for a drink stay for speeches then go home or back to our own clubrooms. If we are home, it's good to see how all the other teams go. Tawa have basically all teams at the clubrooms after a game though, which makes it a good environment. It's nearly packed everyweek these days

I love the Naenae rooms, not the biggest clubbies but pretty much all sides at home are there.  Speeches usually amusing (credit to the clubs MC) and often so packed you can't get a seat or a leaner.

Good club atmos as well, with most teams heading back after away games and (if possible) a lager in the hosts rooms.

One of the problems with Tawa from a visiting point of view footballmad is being banished to Onepoto or Kura.  Redwood isn't exactly near the ground for a beer which is a shame.  Not something you can help though.  Hard News2009-07-05 23:14:59

Yeah very true mate fair point. When teams get to play at Redwood they normally seem to be in the clubrooms but when out at Onepoto they normally wouldn't come back. Agree with your clubrooms. Seems like a good atmosphere when I was out there near the start of the year

I agree with everything you say in principle. You know we're always at the clubbies when playing KP/Ben Burn/Wilton, but this season we've had a grand total of 3 games at those grounds this season, none since early May, and haven't played at KP since the third round, which was in mid-April.

It's not easy convincing guys to get back to the clubbies after playing at Onepoto/Ngatitoa/Adventure. Guys aren't usually keen to drive for over half an hour to get a drink, especially since most can't really hang around for much longer than an hour or so before having to go back to the family, etc. I'm sure this is the problem plaguing most Wharf teams.

Having said all that, there is absolutely no excuse for not going back to the clubbies when playing at the home grounds I mentioned above.

My guys always used to go back to the clubbies after home games, ie KP or Benburn, Wilton is a bit more of a trek. The keeness changed after the no beer on tap thing which I think occurred a few weeks back. That was dissapointing.

We usually go to the oppositions clubrooms for away games.

Thought I'd wade in here, as this is a topic that is often discussed in my circles.

The Mighty Karori Cougars have only played at KP once this season (first game as well, seems like forever ago!), but we've been at Ben Burn and Wilton a few times and generally try and get back to KP for a bevvie afterwards. However as our league is a bit of a travelling road show, we very rarely will go back to KP after away games, especially since team members are spread out all over town. Of course Karori being where it is doesn't help either.
On a bit of an aside - the facilities at Wilton and Ben Burn are a joke - only one changing room and 3 showers (I think) at each. We played Wairarapa at BB not long ago on a particularly cold Saturday arvo and there was no hot water at all, no a great way to start a long car journey. Similarily we played Waikanae at Wilton and after the game there were four teams trying to get changed in the one, very cramped, changing room. Not a good look really for these teams that have had to travel a long way.

I don't think we have ever been "invited" back to a teams club rooms while playing away, however after playing at Kapiti on the weekend (surely one of the best pitches in the region?!) the majority of the team stayed for a beer and a feed. We usually stick around for a beer after most games though.

As stated by someone above, I imagine these are problems facing most Karori teams.

Please do tell the whole truth. with regards to all clubs since the late 80's, after speeches at 5:30 there is a mass exodus, whilst the handful of club faithfull are left to experiance the silence of their rather large wasted space.
Having recently re-visited my old rugby club, i noticed that nothing has changed in terms of mass patronage of all teams at the club. Whilst it was standing room only, i was told the prem's were still to come!!! Meanwhile the place was a hive of activity with raffles being sold by all teams for end of season trips etc..It's remarkable to note that the code is losing significant playing numbers over the years, whilst in comparison football numbers are swelling and still don't get the support.
What's happened!!! Have we gone soft ? Or is it a sign of the class difference amongst codes. Footballers are a good advert for sensible drinking, if nothing else.
Maybe if clubs could fund a van with their funds, that could double as a team bus on away trips, and a club taxi for after match patrons that don't wish to flout the law. Something a good host is compelled to offer if they want the patronage.

Its not antisocial when you leave the park after a 90 minute cold mudbath on the no. 2 ground after sidestepping sh*t on the field. That pitch was a joke, the only saving grace was that we won 3-0. In the condition everyone was in, all we want to do is go home, shower and get ready for the team party we had that night. Also, f**k spending $20 on a jug and a bowl of chips. JMHO.

And you'd do well to notice that on the only decent day this season that we've played at KP we were in the clubbies straight after, although being a 2.30 game we were pretty much the only team there. Wow what a place to socialise.

a) have a shower in the showers provided to remove the mud - as you get muddy when you play football in most cases.

b) do you not like socialising with your team?

c) save up during the week for a couple of bottles of beer.

I take it you are from the Stags. I have never seen you guys in the clubbies in the four or so years that you've been in existence. Don't start spouting sht.

Why is "sparking up in the changing rooms" not an option in this poll?

if potatobus brought his avatar to the club i'm sure it would attract patronage!!!! but really,
all i want to confirm is, if she's asking to be spanked.

1. You're a muppet with no memory. Or you're not there yourself. I guess you dont remember seeing us doing team boat races in the clubbies. The amount we drank over a couple of seasons was rediculous.

2. Screw those showers, I'll take mine anyday.

3. Give more respect to a team thats given you 2 grade titles in 2 years. Even though most of us have moved away from Karori (I think only 1 player is left), we still feel loyalty for the club and so continue to play for it.
