Womens Football is played in style that is not seen in any male lower grades, the ball is played more and the play is not as physical. Many spectators are amazed at the skill level of many of the younger players. There is still a little bully tactic by older players but with a bit of encouragment the young players learn to ignore or just out pace thier foe.

All teams and grades need to help develop the younger female players not scare them away.

Good comments Blew with which I agree. My youngsters with Porirua City are very skilled. We have a very talented midfielder, Gaby Peach, whose first time control and distribution is first rate. Our more experienced players help us combat the physical side and provide direction and encouragement...

The games involve tactics and team play and more passing than the hoof it mens leagues often do.

And people wonder why I make coverage of the women's game my first priority where football in this country is concerned.

Thankyou, Blew and Orpewise - I greatly appreciate the re-enforcement of my beliefs which your comments provide.

Cheers,

Games off today which is not a surprise!

Season is looking interesting in Div 3. Lower Hutt have picked up and joined the group at the top. Six teams still contesting for top two places, though North Wellington and Seatoun have the advantage. Results show that the top six can all beat each other or run very close (North Wellington have had a couple of key 1-0 wins for example.

The two games between Wellington United Goldens and Porirua City have been a delight with two good committed teams trying to play the right way and also sporting in attitude. Very good officials with the Goldens who bring high standards to the league..well done.

Div 3 fulfills a double purpose of social grade for many players plus development time for emerging youngsters without too much pressure that top divisions present.

Blew is right, it would be good to hear from my clubs and teams here.

one or three of our women were out last night after a big Welly U function and would have been next to useless today. Put it this way, at 3am this morning they were still going strong and getiing stronger as the rain came down harder outside.

Div 2 Wests V Karori

To start off with I was amazed at how good the ground was, I was expecting it to be muddy or atleast water logged. The game was won eventually 3-0 to Wests who deserved that score line but it took till the last 10 to get the last 2 goals. Karori just could not penetrate the Wests back line who were solid all game, and I think its fair to say that the Karori backline was not as solid as it normally is.

The game was physical but fair and a good game to watch.

Will we play to the end. Latest from Capital Football is we have 5 weekend left to finish the season and most teams in our grades have not completed enogh games to consider round 1 finished. With the weather breaks and ground restriction placed on them by councils CF are proposing,                                                                                                                             Senior Women - Central League - we intend to complete this league.

Senior Women - Premier - we intend to complete this league. However, we  will  structure the draw for the remaining weeks such that key games which will  have a bearing on promotion/relegation issues will be played first, just in case (in a worst case scenario) we can't complete the full draw. This league  will require 1 or 2 "double-headers" in the sense of 2 shortened-duration  matches on a Sunday. If we can't get the first of those double-headers  completed by Sun 10 Aug we will abandon the double-headers strategy. If the final table shows teams in unassailable key positions (top and bottom so to speak) - the final table will stand. If the final table shows teams in top  or bottom positions that could have been "caught" if the season had been able to be completed, the final positions + promotion/relegation spots shall be determined by the results of one complete first round.

Senior Women - Women's 1-3 inclusive - we will first and foremost  concentrate on completing one full round. In most divisions that will mean that another 1 or 2 games will need to be played. If more games can be played they will be. If at the conclusion of the season a league is incomplete winners and promotion/relegation spots will be determined as follows. If the final table shows teams in unassailable key positions (top and bottom so to speak) - the final table will stand. If the final table shows teams in top or bottom positions that could have been "caught" if the season had been able to be completed, the final positions and promotion/relegation spots shall be determined by the results of one  complete first round.

Central League: Upper Hutt 1 Marist 4.
A bit of a WTF sort of game. Ended up with Wendi Henderson getting sent off.I thought UHC were the better team but something just sort of happened.....

Not sure if Marist do fines for mentions but here we go... Pearl and Their (Marist's)  number 5 were sound.

For UHC well ***** *** and ***** had solid games.

Great pass that lead to UHC's goal. Worth going jst for that, well done *****.
Profile pic. Should you be interested. Lakhsen, on the right, lost touch with him.
Mohammed, on the left, I'm still in touch with. He's now living in Agadez, Niger. More focused on his animals now as tourism has dried up. Is active with a co-op promoting local goods, leather work and bijouterie, into Europe.

I count 45 Teams out enjoying themselves, the results show most teams are playing within
a grade that suits. Premier after all the talk in other forums is not a white wash.
Some teams in other grades struggle for player numbers during school holidays and long weekends,
but as last year by mid season and later you see the tables close up.
School football and study and yes the weather restricts training so time together is limited.
lets all have a great time out there.

New Zealand Football: Cup mismatches end in double figures

May 24, 2009

AUCKLAND - Glenfield Rovers and Papakura made the most of ties against lower-ranked opposition on Sunday, notching up respective 18-1 and 17-1 wins in the preliminary round of football's Women's Knockout Cup.

Beaten finalists in 2007, Northern League Glenfield Rovers were expected to be too strong for Oratia and with Alice Bresnahan bagging seven goals - and Lauren Mathis and Priscilla Duncan each chiming in with hat tricks - the result was never in doubt.

Similarly lopsided was Auckland first division Papakura's 17-1 win over fourth division Onehunga-Mangere. Tracy Joyce led the scoring with five and hat tricks to both Tayla Day and Mahalia O'Connor padded the scoreline.

On the North Shore, Forrest-Hill Milford won a local derby against Takapuna with the game's only goal, while further north, Kerikeri pushed Waitakere all the way before losing to the West Aucklanders 3-4 in a penalty shootout.

In Wellington's only preliminary round match, Brooklyn-Northern United edged University 1-0 to book a first round meeting with Lower Hutt on June 14.

The preliminary round of the competition will be completed with Tuesday night game between Christchurch rivals Coastal Spirit and Halswell United at English Park.

New Zealand Football: Womens Knockout Cup Draw completed

May 29, 2009

AUCKLAND Halswell will play 2008 beaten finalists Western in the first round of the Womens Knockout Cup after edging Coastal Spirit 2-1 in a preliminary round tie in Christchurch on Thursday night.

Erin Heine and Chelsea Bignal scored before the break and Halswell held on to their 2-1 halftime lead to line up in the first round proper on the weekend of June 13 and 14.

Glenfield Rovers were big winners in the preliminary round last weekend and the North Shore club also benefitted from Fridays first round draw, landing a home tie against Hibiscus Coast.

Yep it was bitter. Our girls in 4 got transferred to Cobham, played into the hail 1st half, 1 nil down at HT, camped in the oppo goalmouth for 10 minutes of the 2nd half but were just too cold to continue. Game abandoned, replay to follow. Sour note - referee appointed by CF failed to front. Are these guys just fair weather refs or can't they be bothered listening to the transfers?

Yes our game stopped a few times as hail past. At least we had some where to hide.

Watched the game at Melrose.  Several hail storms and a bit of sleet as well.  Full credit to the girls for playing through all that and playing some very good footy. In fact I was very impressed by the standard and skill level on display. Very cold and the ground cut up quite a lot.  Unless we have some good weather this week the grounds will struggle to recover.

It was your div 3 girls on Cobham rightstr, and there was nowhere to hide from the hail! Game called off after the worst hail storm I've ever seen descended upon us. The metservice website said it was 4 degrees, with the wind chill factor making it -2C yesterday afternoon! Took a few beers to warm me back up again.
Was a good game tho. Marist were a great bunch of girls and there was some good footy played despite the conditions. I'm looking forward to our rematch. Minus the sleet next time.

Ref didn't show up for our Div 1 girls either.

what is the story around abandoning a game, does it mean it is replayed no matter what the score at the time?

I'm trying to find out as my women walked off around 10 mins into the 2nd half due to the weather but the opposition ref did not want to abandon the game unless our team agreed to the current score being the final score  (they were winning at the time). In the end our team just walked off as it was unsafe to continue.

Hoping to get clarification from CF but wondered if anyone on here knows what the procedure is.

I wasn't at the game due to other commitments but if I had been I would not have allowed my team on the field due to the weather.

We're in Div 4 too.

That's a bit harsh, not abandoning the game unless you agreed to the score as is! We were dominating when the hail started in the 2nd half and I was a bit gutted to have endured 60 mins to then pack it in! but it was all agreed that it was just too dangerous.

From the CF website of rules and regulations:
Any match abandoned for any reason shall be reported immediately to the Manager (of CF). This responsibility lies with the Referee, if present, or the Home team. After considering the facts, the Manager may decide that
a) the score at the time of the abandonment shall stand, or
b) the match will be re-scheduled to another date
