That's a bit harsh, not abandoning the game unless you agreed to the score as is! We were dominating when the hail started in the 2nd half and I was a bit gutted to have endured 60 mins to then pack it in! but it was all agreed that it was just too dangerous.

From the CF website of rules and regulations:
Any match abandoned for any reason shall be reported immediately to the Manager (of CF). This responsibility lies with the Referee, if present, or the Home team. After considering the facts, the Manager may decide that
a) the score at the time of the abandonment shall stand, or
b) the match will be re-scheduled to another date

pretty much right.CF will take into account - the score at the time, the time to go, reason game was abandoned/called off, whether there was agreement, was the team card signed? Sounds like your oppo were taking advantage so good luck with it, Cliff and Jamie are fair though.

Yes common sense needs to prevail.

It will be interesting to see what happens as I don't think the home ref would have contacted CF. I'll give an update when our club has heard back from CF.

Who was your team playing against?

Sounds like poor sportsmanship, were they going into the wind or with it when it was called off?

Club officials have a responsibility to take care of the welfare of players.  This is not professional sport.  Many womens teams have young players with low body mass who would have been in danger of hypothermia in wind chill and wet conditions.  It is not wimpy to quit in those conditions and sensible experienced managers/coaches should be firm about not exposing players to risk.

I do hope that common sense prevails and games are replayed in better conditions.

Looks like a scene from Lord of The Rings rather than a football game.

Don't want to say out of fairness to both teams and waiting to see what CF say (if anything).

This is up on the CF website...
They included the above photo, ironically, from an abandoned game!

On Sunday 31 May 2009 Capital Football chose to go ahead with the games as scheduled.  Some of you may have been surprised considering the forecast temperatures.  The decision was a marginal call as it would have been easy to have cancelled all games.  However, the decision to play was based on the following:-

All four councils sports grounds were open. By far the most complaints Capital Football would get is when we cancel games and the grounds are open.

The condition of the grounds was actually pretty good. (erm Cobham?!)

All Sunday games (apart from one Champs Premier and one Women's Knock Out Cup game) the previous week were cancelled. Some women's teams if Capital Football had cancelled would have been on their third cancellation.

The forecast was for clearing and patchy (which was exactly the case, although this is somewhat of an understatement).

Those that did play experienced bouts of sunshine along with around every 20 minutes, a hail storm.  75% of the games got played.  Of the 24 scheduled games, 5 were postponed due to weather and there was one default.

So congratulations to all those women and men, referees, coaches, managers and supporters who braved the cold. A particular mention to Women's Division 5 who played all their games.

the game wasn't abandoned - media got their report wrong,  hail shower passed in a couple of minutes and the sun came out for the last 10 mins of the game...  (not that it ever got very warm of course)

Capital Football have once again confounded me with their decision to cancell some grades today, the best day in a month to play. The councils must have had grounds open as the grades that played were spread through the 3 councils.
While they may say that they re committed to getting teams to play 18 games today proves the opposite
To those that are looking forward to the cup competition whats the point if it doesn't get finished, there are at least 5 more league games to play (in Women's 1 some have 7) and then 4 cup games to get to finals and 11 weekends left.

I agree, our pitch was open, the weather was fine but the game cancelled. Very strange

I rang the council grounds line in Wgtn and only the specific parks used where open for 1 game.

But that did not stop some teams running training sesions on the closed grounds which will put us in bad light with the councils - as their staff still work Sundays.
